I kinda have to call BS on this, either it was a a pony or a very young horse at best, I was working with a horse at my school's large animal clinic and he just stepped on my foot, no ta stomp or a kick just stepped on it, while I was wearing hard toe boots (not steel toe, that's just a good way to amputate your toes) broke half the bones in my foot, if that SOB had stomped on my foot? I'd be missing some toes at best. So if a horse had stomped on you and somehow hit your back? no you would not have bruised ribs you'd have broken ribs and internal bleeding. Also great fucking part about that was, that was on a Friday before a long weekend were my family was all going camping at Disney's fort wilderness, so my choices were: Go to the hospital, and ruin my trip that has already been paid for, or suck it up and go to Disney. I went to fucking Disney.

I'm a crazy horse-lover, but I've had to punch horses before. Sometimes, that's the only way to get a horse to listen to you. Either punch it in the jaw or elbow it in the flank. Horses will naturally fight against pressure, but they shy away from quick, short strikes. Punching a horse doesn't necessarily hurt the animal, due to the thickness of its skin, but rather gets its attention and distracts it from whatever it is it was doing. Foals will "punch" at their mothers when they want attention, and mares ram their heads into each other when they fight. Stallions are known to rear up and kick out with their front hooves to strike an opponent's face. A human isn't strong enough to do much serious damage to a horse just by punching it, so ethically punching a horse in the jaw is a valid way to get the animal to let go of someone it's biting.

It probably was rabid, although I doubt you killed it by breaking its neck. You more likely gave it acute brain damage, which can cause death rapidly in a rabid or neurologic animal. I'm not saying you didn't break its neck, though, it's just that there are other more likely reasons as to why the dog died after you kicked it, especially if it was indeed rabid. Do you know if the dog was tested for rabies? The only way to definitively diagnose rabies in any animal is via microscopic examination of brain tissue, which can only be done after the animal has died.

I think they tested it because there was a notice about rabid dogs in the area. They actually sent people after to capture and kill the rabid dogs
