This what I love bout the cricket community, more praising than hate towards players is what sports needs.

They're good, Anderson & Broad are two of the very best, no question, but in terms of complete bowling line-ups I think Australia has them beat. Starc, Hazelwood, Cummins, and Lyon are statistically better especially when away from home. And when you've got a bowler as good as Scott Boland but he can't even make the team you know it's damn strong. Australia just beat Pakistan in Pakistan, and Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. Not to mention they absolutely FLOGGED England last summer, and also beat NZ comfortably last time they played. Sorry but my money's on Australia for the best bowling line-up in test cricket.

@@shoaibk7019 , there is one technical adjustment he could afford to make. He has a tendency to play across the line of the ball because of where his back-lift goes and, while that is not such a big issue when he's in, it can be early on his his innings. If the bat swings through the line of ball then being a little bit late or a little bit early won't matter too much. If you're swinging across the line though, being too early means an outside edge at best and being too late means an inside edge at best. If Crawley could plug that technical hole without losing anything then he could potentially be a big success in Test cricket.

@@wunnell I agree about this adjustment but it’s not a technique issue it’s formulating a game plan. Deciding what shots to play at what point of his innings against what conditions and opposition is gameplay and mindset. How he ondrives, his wrist position, shoulder position, bat flow, and etc are all technique aspects. He has all the right tools, when to employ his tools is what he needs to learn.

@@shoaibk7019 , of course it's a technique issue. Obviously those other aspects are important but playing across the line is still playing across the line. Playing through the line instead is a matter of technique.

They batted in the way they should have. Gill pant got out to bad shots agree. Stokes rises to the occasion whenever the chips are down and Potts could be the next big thing for England cricket.

The modern batsman with the bats they have, the smaller boundaries and limited overs mindset just eat up bowlers bowling 125-140km/h without any swing. Yet these same batsman look pretty ordinary against genuine swing bowling like boult was getting in the last series or the raw pace of bowlers like mitchell johnson when he was bowling 150km/h up around there ears.

@@josephcole8046 Mate ODIs have been around for yonks and didn't have this effect. T20s changed strokeplay and fielding massively in recent times. This absolutely is T20s that did this. Just because Bairstow isn't hugely successful in T20s doesn't mean the paradigm shift from T20s didn't affect the way he bats.

Sorry, Crawley has to go. His first class average is only 30 and his test average in his 44 innings is only 26. And, if you took away his one highest score of 267 in a drawn match against Pakistan, his test average would drop down to 21. An opener needs to be dependable and protect the rest of the batting order, seeing off the new ball and tiring the frontline attack. He is the exact opposite of a talented opener. It is not even that he is a particularly attacking player, having a strike rate of 54 runs per hundred balls in tests and 56 runs per hundred balls in first class matches. It is irrevelant if he can occaisionally play an elegant stroke. He is simply not up for the job. I would be amazed if his father being on the list of richest men in England has nothing to do with him retaining his spot in the side.

@@themathsprofessor6962 , Crawley was quite young when first selected so was picked on potential as much as anything, so his FC average isn't completely relevant. If I remember correctly, he ended up in the team because of injury, having been selected more to get experience around the squad than to actually play. I think that his being in the team has more to do with Ed Smith being from Kent than Crawley's father. As for his future, he may not make it in the end but he does look very good when he gets going and the adjustments necessary to overcome his issues could be relatively small. Given that England have tried so many openers with little success and that there aren't others specifically queuing up for a spot, I'd say that it's worth the gamble to stick with Crawley a bit longer. I can certainly see the argument to drop him but, on balance, I think it's worth keeping him a bit longer. In the end though, the opinions that matter are McCullum and Stokes and they have said he'll stay for now, so stay he will.

His shot selection in leg side though maybe imperfect but his off side shots are a beauty to watch. I am sure he will grow to become a solid opener for England. He has the talent.
