I hope you liked this video. It is part of a whole playlist on bonsai techniques (Here: ru-vid.com/group/PLci6b9GxmP3UGohsMKWr2r77Lo9tMKYjV). If you liked this video, and you feel that your friends might like it too, please share it! Naturally I look forward to hearing your thoughts: Do drop me a comment!
Very clear and concise, Jelle. I keep liking more and more your videos. They are long enough to make a whole procedure completely understandable, yet short enough so they do not become boring. Nice and neat! Cheers from the not so sunny Brazil at the time.
Good morning Jelle, I just found you somehow and as l started bonsai 3 months ago with a ‘root over rock’ I was delighted by your concise, informative video.
Oops! Didn’t mean to send at that point! I wanted to say that I’m going to subscribe as you’re so clear, informative and pleasant. I feel you might be Dutch? I’m English and my ‘R O R’ is still alive! ✌️
Hey Gaye, thank you sooo much for dropping me a line! You may have noticed, I am new to this youtube producing thing, and at times I really wonder whether my videos are worth making, and especially, whether they are not too short. So it really helps me to hear that you like them in this short, to-the-point format! Over the next weeks there should be a bunch of new videos, do stop by for them!
Thanku, that was quick! I’m new too, so I wouldn’t know but I noticed Magnus gave you wise advice re premiers, actually I was wondering what they were about! I’m new to internet as well as bonsai but 50 years in horticulture. God bless your endeavours 🙏✝️ ✌️🇺🇦
@Gaye Fanner Premieres are video release moments where the video goes live, with you present on the channel replying to people. RU-vid announces them on YT and it seems you can draw in a crowd. I think I will do a premiere again when I hit 1000 subscribers in maybe 2 years :)
50 years horticulture.. Guess you should watch my next video, which is released.. Tomorrow? It is about ways to reduce aphid pressure without poison :)
Hi Sajjad, good to see you here. If you like the video, please do not forget to subscribe, so you hear of future videos :). Good luck with your project!
water as normal, and inside the foil? This is really wonderful, and I have since acquired a couple lovely rocks, muck, and a couple new seedlings to play with. Thank you for all your excellent instruction.
Yeah, I water as normal, making sure there is always water landing on the rock draining between the rock and the foil. Within weeks the roots push into the pot
Very nice video! I do have a question I have been told that aluminum is poisonous to plants, it doesn't look like it's true though if you use it to wrap root on rock over a period of years...
hi Jelle, nice video! root over rock is one of the sides of the art that I am yet to try. maybe I'll try one this spring. what substrate did you use to glue the roots onto the rock?
I can fully recommend you give this a try. Do let me know when you do! The substrate I used was ground coco fibres, these do not decompose, and do not hold nutrients which is great for roots to go out and explore!
@@GrowingBonsai thanks! Yes I'll be sure to let you know if I get the time to do one this spring. I still have a several more normal repots to work through first... 😊
@@GrowingBonsai hi Jelle, thanks for the tutorial: I’m going to give it a go before or later! Is the coco substrate that you’re using coming from one of those discs or bricks that expand with water? Cheers!
Hi never seen tin foil used like that can't wait to give a go as have a couple of root over rock planned for the spring. How long do you leave it in place
hey louise, over the next week (?) I will bring out a new video on root over rock, might be worth watching that one too. Leave it as long as you need to get main roots established. For me, that can be years. Others lift the roots above the groun within a year.
Hi, nice Video but I read that this stones have a lot of Calciumcarbonat and that is not good for Bonsai, is that right and how is your Bonsai doing now? Calciumcarbonat highers the PH level up to over 7 and most bonsai need a more lower acide PH level, isnt that bad?
I have done this and have used coco peat as the substrate. Ive also wrapped it with the foil. But the question is how do I water it ? Can I open it and spray some water or leave it like that? Please comment
Thanks, I guess i forgot the part where you covered it up with the substrate. I've done it. Will share the update as it progresses. Thanks for this inspiring video, though
