ROOTS MUSIC & IMPROVISATION for STRINGS (JAZZ 420) is a class available to both non-majors, and music majors alike who are looking for ways to expand their musical creativity through the lens of traditional and contemporary string music. Learn repertoire, improvisation, accompaniment and genre specific techniques in old-time American fiddling, as well as bluegrass, Celtic, Canadian, rock, jazz, blues and contemporary acoustic music. Violinists, violists, cellists, bassists, guitarists, mandolinists, and banjoists are all welcome! Email Professor Brad Phillips for more information at bradphil@umich.edu.
