I'm surprised at how similar the interface looks to Stardew Valley, too. Feels like the Stone Age setting could be more present in the game, right now it's kind of a backdrop.

Hey Sam. It's Timo, one of the devs. Thanks for your feedback. We've tried a couple of different UIs, like greyish stones and it made it a bit cold, so we are now trying more wood, rope, and cave paintings. Game is still being developed and getting an ever-increasing focus on the evolutionary and cultural side of civilization. Which is itself a close-clone of the Harvest Moon games’ UI. I used to root for Stardew Valley as an indie dev’s update of the Harvest Moon, but now there’s a generation that loves Stardew and only knows Stardew, and has no knowledge of well-reviewing, mechanics-groundbreaking Harvest Moon games (e.g. the original for SNES, Harvest Moon 64 for N64, or my favorite A Wonderful Life for GC). It’s just amazing how quick people forget excellent works of art 10-15 years prior. I now half-expect to run into someone claiming Back To The Future is a rip-off of Rick & Morty.

To be fair. 10 to 15 years is a lot of time. There are people who play Stardew Valley that weren't even born when most Harvest Moon games came out. There's also the problem with modern Harvest Moon games being only that in name. People have probably heard of Harvest Moon and how great it is, bought a modern game and it turned out to be horrible. So now, they don't want to play the older ones, which are the actual Harvest Moon games.

@@sodaden6324 using warm tones for the grey in the stones might help. I suppose stone also leaves room for mossy kind of embellishments or that sort of thing.

I think this game looks and seems great! I saw this vid and thought that an early access version was out and was going to buy it and stream it today but sadly its not out yet. But I'm for sure looking forward to it. It has a stardew look however it feels to be in a world of its own already. I personally think you're on the right track!

The artists must've spent quite some time on the terrain, since very little of it seems to actually be tiled as these games usually are.

@@M4xFr4gg Yeah it's probably more difficult to keep the world looking consistent when you're not using tiles. The only past 2D RPG I can really recall that didn't use tiles (and to good effect) was Legend of Mana, which instead had beautifully painted backgrounds.

an interesting point. Tally sticks ARE stoneage techs. stoneage societies did understand the concept. but coinage, and such.. not really. I wonder if a tally system could be created.

The coinage hopefully would be a placeholder for them to develop it into a full barter system where there is no standard currency but everything is exchangeable. It might be even great when the exchange rate changes depending on the amount of supply.

They are "Contribution points" that you spend. The devs are working on a way to make it more clear it's not "money." Thank you!

@@CrytivoGames in real life I bartered, my products and labor both with much satisfaction. There was always the value of products or labor to consider. That they use the value equal to money is not wrong in my eyes. Also person who chooses not to work earns less, very fair. Agree

This game is interesting... + Stardew Valey Feel Stuff with different setting and options + You can discover and domesticate animals from wild... And pet a Mamoth! - This "Stone Age" will keep our monogamy tradition for some reason, even if you can catch any partner (male or female) - Ice Age things will come in later updates when support will be high enought (Stone Age could be more oriented on that original stuff)

Idk why but I feel like it needs more dirt if that makes sense.. not foliage like little flowers and grass tufts although that would add a bit of color but a dirty environment of ugly looking dirt patches and stuff that we could clean ourselves to prevent disease and maybe make the other villagers do if you can convince them. I just get the feeling that the less technology we have the more messier the place will be..

@@ihavenoidea3233 coins are just a physical somewhat unified symbolization of money. They used cowrie shells as currency in the stone age, often imitations made out of jade, silver or gold. I don't see how a sack full of golden cowrie shells differs much from a modern day coins purse.

people say its a starred valley clone like such games have existed for a while, like there is only so many ways u can do shooters and they are all similar in a way. But this games look is soooo much better. I like starred but I don't really dig the look, it just doesn't look that attractive and this has way more details. I am so looking forward to this.

I think that’s the plan, the “cash” as I kept referring to it actually means “contribution points”. I think one of the pre-ea goals is to come up with a better system

Maybe they will change the little stone coin looking thing into a small god idol or something before the launch... but the Barter system would definitely have a more stone age feel having to do tasks or trade items for what you need. As always love your content.

Stop fucking comparing stardew valley to everything as though it is an original game. Stardew valley took influence from harvest moon. Stardew shit is not the game that influence everything that’s harvest moon. Plz give credit to the OG of farming sim, OG isn’t and will never be Stardew

looks like a cheap stardew mod, with worse mecanics. Gameplay gives less input and feedback and there are even less constraints than stardew valley. I could buy it for 5 dollars, but nothing more.

It's also still in development! There's always the opportunity to revise and update mechanics. Stardew wasn't available to play during its earlier stages, so it's not fair to compare a finished game to a work in progress
