Missed the Kickstarter? Wishing you'd known about the game sooner? GOOD NEWS!!!! They've just launched a pre-order store where you can still get access to the game and some limited time add-ons! bit.ly/CoralIslandPreOrder
Ooh thanks for sharing! I haven’t been on the discord or Kickstarter in a few days so I didn’t know they opened this! I’m so glad they added the mythical pet add on
@@DoctorDDub absolutely. I'm a long time fan of the genre, but whenever I play Story of Seasons or Stardew Valley I often think to myself "man, I would enjoy this so much more if the clock didn't make me feel so anxious all the time." I'm playing these games to chill out and take my sweet time with things on the farm, talk to all the villagers, fish a little, explore, etc. Ending the day whenever I feel ready sounds like a dream to me.
The relationship of Coral Islands fans and Stardew Valley fans will be exactly like Terraria and Minecraft, constantly saying Ripoff at each other but at the end of the day they're still homies
I honestly feel sad that the original harvest moon games aren't seen as the farm sims that sparked a genre and "rip-offs". They have so many of the same mechanics and ideas behind them, even a special mermaid NPC lol
@@Zoe-ol5ol Plus this game more closely resembles My Time in Portia... than SDV which is a pixel game with far fewer features than what is discussed in the video, while Portia has a lot of these and has similar farming layouts, quests, house upgrade path/customization, etc.
I'd be surprised if a top-tier upgrade isn't some sort of magic seashell that lets you breathe underwater. If I were a designer, I'd make this one of those "endgame convenience and reward" items that vastly expand your diving inventory, removes time limits (if any), and provides bonuses to gathering.
People always ask if you'd take a bullet for the ones you love. No one ever asks if you'd drown for them. I guess we can start asking that one now though, lol. And yeah ruff, that'd be really neat. So long as it's super end game!
Haha, thanks Alice! While I'm not sponsored or getting paid in any way (aside from RU-vid ads), I'm using this as a "portfolio builder" if you will. The link to their pre-order is a custom link so I can track how many people I drive to their pre-order store. Again, not making a dime from that, but it'd be cool to see how big of an effect this video can have!
Oh no I hope they don't add an effed up feature like in stardew where you turn them into doves when you're bored of them. Idk why concerned ape added that feature. Kinda turned the game dark.
@@fashowallday4073 Only if you like the sandy, dusty wild west flair, which... only a small percentage of people actually do like. Coral island looks 100% more appealing to me.
I'm Indonesian and a huge farming sims fan (from Harvest Moon era to Stardew!). So seeing Indonesian developers actually making a farming sim, influenced by Indonesian culture, got me so excited!! I can actually relate to the game (e.g. liking durian and kopi luwak). And it looked SO GOOD. I can't wait for it to be released, and hopefully it will be super amazing and get the international recognition it deserved!
That's awesome! Yeah, I'm excited for a much different feeling farm sim, and the cultural aspect and Indonesian inspiration are definitely responsible for that feel!
@@DoctorDDub When you are an Indonesian and understand the Merfolk language even though it's not fully in Bahasa Indonesia. It's mixed of Bahasa Indonesia and several diverse ethnic languages. Can't wait to farm the plastic in the ocean though.
@@DoctorDDub Yeah, actually since I know severals Indonesian Ethnic Languages, I kind of understand what she said. More or less she was talking about her home. But not all are ethnic languages. Some are even latin based.
Omg it's from Indonesian developer? Good job neighbour! Would love to play this soon!! Last Indonesian game I played was dread out? The horror game. Love it bcos our ghosts (u know Malaysian and Indonesian almost similar), really excites me. Truly great job guys!!
They literally took every good aspect from all the farming sims, then slapped on even more awesome things and this is literally all we ever wanted! Amazing work!!
That's what everyone has been saying, lol. They do look pretty interesting! I'm just waiting to see more polished 3D stuff, not just pretty 2D artwork.
Full-time mod support? same-sex marriage? branching skill paths? diverse characters? 3d graphics? why, it almost sounds too good to be true! I'm generally against getting anything in early access, but I think this may have won me over...
Honestly, if you release a farm sim in 2021, the community surrounding farm sims will lose their mind at the thought of an entirely heterosexual cast of characters. I think Stairway Games knows that. A lot of people highly value diversity. Race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, etc., and developers of farm sims understand that and put it into their games as a result.
this is what i am LIVING for. a 3-d, Planting, Dating, Customization, farming sim, with an asian twist? it's like god heard all the cries of farming sim fans and sent us these lovely developers
im malaysian, so it's SO SO great for me to see a game with south east asian influences made by south east asian devs!! ALSO THE ANIMALS LOOK CUTE AS HELL
I honestly never been so into farming sim games but that might just change very drastically.. and not to mention by a developer of my own country!! I'm so damn proud and excited I really hope the game releases well and everything go greatly ❤️✨
omg i was absolutely AMAZED from the graphics to the gameplay, i totally didnt expect that its from an indonesian studio !! bener2 gak nyangka tapi pastinya bangga soalnya keren banget sumpahhh, super glad that it gets the recognition it deserves !!!
@@DoctorDDub yea? Aaa ❤️ honestly there's a lot of great work from local gaming industry and also the drawing community that for me is just as good as american or japanese famous works. Never really explicitly hoped that they got more recognition and kinda accepted that all the market we could get is at best nation wide, but here it is, Coral Island reaching far beyond and even got almost twice the backing they needed ❤️✨
@@amandazzly7116 bagus banget ya!! ❤️ I kinda didn't expect they brought environmental concept too like cleaning the coral. I thought everyone is afraid of being seen as sjw nowadays :') but it's really heartwarming if they're actually lowkey trying to influence people environmental awareness too with this game
When i started to play Stardew Valley, in the moment i saw Shane i knew he was going to be my husband. Now, i'm looking at Rafael, and oh sh*t here we go again.
As a marine biologist, I approved! It's so rare to see games with a marine theme and a lab in it, and it's not just for decoration but functional! This is totally my gaming fantasea 🐬
I'm Indonesian.. and i am very embarrassed i didn't know these gem sooner. Hand drawn diverse npc and stuffs, farm sim, Make ur own stories (romance & parenting), Indonesia influences, ..MERFOLK..., I can't i just can't.. I'm dying.. of excitement...
Everyone compares this to Stardew valley. To me it reminds me of the old Harvest Moon series. All the things you referenced such as normal fish and legendary fish, the mining, customization of house and many other features are all things that originated from the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons.
You're right. And Stardew got it's inspiration from Harvest Moon. Stardew Valley is just the much more modern, much more recognizable comparison. I grew up with HM64 and Back to Nature, but I also love and play a ton of SDV. I think both comparisons are fair and accurate!
@@DoctorDDub My first Harvest Moon game was HM64. Loved the series ever since. I somehow got it in my head when Stardew valley first came out that it was another of Natsume's rip offs so I never paid any attention to it. But since I joined the Coral Island Discord I've been hearing a lot about it. And learned it wasn't a Natsume knock off. I decided to give it a chance. I just downloaded the game. I'll play it when I get the chance and see how I like it. Not so sure about modern though. The style reminds me of the old gameboy versions, lol.
And just straight up newer. Harvest Moon was good before the split, imo. I haven't played that many of, nor enjoyed the ones I have, of the games after that. Harvest Moon didn't release on the PC back in the day because "there wasn't a market for it". Eric Barone proved that dead wrong, lol.
@@DoctorDDub maybe if not a series, if you do get it, just a video? For people that would like it a lot, the extra video could reach them! It would also give this game a well deserved fan base to keep helping further game development. Obviously not your duty but would be fun to see what you make of it, even if not long term
I can't stop loving their idea on the time slider. Its a brilliant way to solve the timing issue and instead of having to decide on - no time, real time, and fast time. So adjustable. Such a smart solution.
Right!? I think it's an amazing addition as well! It's such a small feature that is going to have such a huge impact on so many players. And having it built into the game instead of being added via mods makes it even more accessible!
@@DoctorDDubYes!! I definitely feel like these are people who truly love the game same as all of us, so they pay close attention to what they and we all hoped to see in such a game. So I'm really excited for it :)
They really do. I watched an interview with one of the cofounders, Soma, and he basically said that Harvest Moon: Back to Nature was the game that literally everyone played. They all grew up with it. I did as well so that made me happy to hear :)
This was my first ever kickstarter backing! I have great faith in this, otherwise I wouldn't have spent the money. Kids growing up and merfolk are the thing I am so excited for!
Haha, a first Kickstarter is always an exciting experience! Hopefully it's a good one :) And yeah, I don't think I've played any games before that have had those features in them!
@@DoctorDDub nah, the only problem I had with Olive town was the dry and lifeless dialogues the NPCs had and they already fixed that on the japanese version. Now we just nedd to wait for the patch on the western version
@@thailand6388 Stardew Valley isn’t a knockoff, imo. It definitely has some similarities and the creator, Eric Barone, has met up with the Harvest Moon creator to talk about their games.
Who the heck cares!? If it's, fun, it's fun. If the devs have issues with each other, that's between them, not us. They straight up said it's partially inspired by SDV. How can you design a farm sim and 2021 and NOT look to SDV for inspiration? You'd be dumb not to. It's a compliment of Eric Barone's work, if anything. As they say, immitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
I usually ended up with the bachellors in farming games like HM/SoS/SDV, but the bachelorettes in this one are all looks so gorgeous. And can I also say, they look so much at the marriageable age too, lovely!
they also hit a stretch goal where a few normal npcs became romancable, namely the single mother, with a child of her own, and even shows her beautiful stretch marks from birthing
@@anthonykay635 Aw, that's great! More diverse body representation is wonderful, mothers especially are often shamed but stretch marks aren't something to be ashamed of!
I've been a fan of Farm Sim games since Harvest Moon and now Stardew Valley but dear LORD this feels like the future of this genre and I will definitely pay for it
Man! You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for someone ANYONE to bring alive the child personality rearing from harvest moon a wonderful life! Hopefully the children can look a little different depending on who you marry
I think they will a little, but not a ton. That could very well change though. Plus, there will be mod support. If it's not in the game, someone will add it, lol.
*sees the title* Pff.. Someone's trying to replace Stardew? Not a chance! *sees the video* ... okay... *sees the video description* What? Made by an Indonesian studio? (Overproud Indonesian intensifies) Kay I'm sold.
Hahahahaha, I love your thought progression. Thank you for keeping an open mind. And no matter what Coral Island does, it will never replace Stardew Valley, but it could be equally as amazing if they play their cards right.
I love StarDew with all of my heart, and no game will ever be able to come to the same sort of feeling it has without practically copying, but this game seems to be very unique. It focuses more on areas where StarDew didn’t as much, and I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
I love Stardew Valley but I have a bad habit that when I play a similar game, all I want to play is Stardew. Maybe it’s because Stardew is my all time go to game and my favorite by far- haven’t stopped playing it since launch. I’ll give it a try but I’m not sure if I’ll stick to it.
Stardew Valley was lightning in a bottle. Even if this game does everything it promises, it's just "as good" as stardew valley, because it's literally not trying to do anything new at all.. so I don't believe the hype is warranted.
@@jhonka It's more akin to Harvest Moon than Stardew Valley, first off. Secondly... it has mermaids. What more could you ever possibly want? XD But, seriously. This game looks super promising. It's not a copy of Stardew Valley, but rather, it seems to be an amalgamation of a bunch of different farming/dating sims that have all done well in the past. It looks like it's taking a bunch of the best parts of those games, and either improving upon them or adding to them. I've played A LOT of farming sims. Just looking at the gameplay here, and hearing about all the things they want to implement - if they actually go through with it all, then I am certain that it's going to live up to the hype.
With Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town on the looming horizon I have found myself on the fence and asking myself: Do I actually like 3D farming sims? Stardew Valley is so huge and the art style so distinctive-there’s so much to do at all hours of the game day, and there’s so much love poured into that game by one man (As far as I’m aware). How can a 3D farming sim scratch that same itch? But looking at Coral Island, and all the devs are trying to bring to life, its features, its gameplay, its message of environmental awareness? I’ve found it. I’m broke and a day late to this campaign, but I don’t care. I will buy this game on PC and then on Switch just to have the luxury of where to play it. It looks absolutely fantastic! 2022 is a daunting but doable goal I feel for the devs. This game and Hytale are my two most anticipated games in the next 3 years. I’ll try Pioneers of Olive town, but my heart will be thinking of Coral Island the entire time~ Also, even though the things in your video were mostly things we already knew from the campaign, you told us about them in a way that just hyped me right up, so you’ve earned a subscriber!
Thank you so much Internet! You'll be happy to see my next video on the game then. Going to be covering things I don't think I've heard a single person discuss, much less the devs. And good luck with Pioneers of Olive Town, or POOT (LOL). I haven't heard the best things about that game unfortunately.
I took some time to decide, and then cancelled my SOS: POOT Preorder. It really doesn’t look all that great. If they patch things, maybe I’ll pick it up in the future, but in CAD its like 69$ (Not nice in this context!) I’m happy with Stardew Valley right now and Littlewood is coming to the switch, so my pixel art chillaxing game list is growing~ Excited for the next video!
Last year I got My Time at Portia on the switch (was on sale) and have to say I have played that way more than Animal Crossing! Its just gave me a sense of purpose in the game, the whole post apocalyptic world is a nice touch and there's literally so much to do...and new missions/quests/commisions. Plus the characters are great to talk to and build relationships with. Stardew valley will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart to play whenever. Everytime they update I would play for weeks xD I too was on the fence for my next farming game (SOS?) Looked cool but way pricey in my opinion. I wasn't sure to buy it. Now looking at this...this seems way more explorative, with added new adventures and elements to exotic island life that I've never seen before (maybe similar to that Summer in Mara game?)
Summer in Mara and Coral Island might have a similar tropical feel, but not having played it myself, that's about all I can tell. That game didn't appeal to me for some reason.
Aren't those animals adorable, Kesh?! They go by so quick in the video, but the few seconds of the farm animals walking around the farm are some quality seconds, lol.
This game being inspired by South East Asian culture AND being made by Indonesians makes my Indonesian heart so happy. I can't wait for this game to come out!!!!
I'm so excited for this game! My family is from South East Asia and I love the representation they are bringing to games. Also I'm most excited for the Merfolk Kingdom. Im gonna romance a merfolk! 😍😍 also I just want more farming games hahah.
Haha, that's awesome! You'll have to let us know how accurate some stuff is! And I know, I'm really curious to see how romancing a mermaid/merman will work. So many questions...
i'm very excitet for the game, the aesthetic and diversity is amazing. Unfortunatelly i couldnt afford the kickstarter, but ill def buy it when its released.
I love the asthetic of this game! Between this and Haunted Chocolatier, I am really glad I ever picked Stardew Valley in the first place, it really introduced me to a new world of games I didn't knew
kinda sad I only discover this gem of a game now (great video btw) and thus missed the Kickstarter, but very excited to see what the future brings. There's always more room in my heart for a good farming sim like stardew.
Gwen! Thank you :) And you can still back via backerkit. They're setting up a pre-order store for the game through it where you'll be able to purchase any of the tiers at $125 or less for a limited time!
This is from an Indonesian gamedev!? Immediately sold!! I missed the Kickstarter, but if it appears in Steam, I'll gladly support my fellow countrypeople.
The features looks so refreshing that I created a Kickstarter account just to support this. . and ended up getting the Mythical pets add-on. Exciting times.
I followed the game for a long time. And hearing the campaign was coming to an end made me jump on backing it before I couldn't anymore. Plan to really stream every single tiny bit of this game. And hey, this is a really solid video about the game. Really helped seal the deal.
I'm glad I could help you make a decision! It was a lot of fun to put together. There will definitely be more to come, as June is a long time to wait without getting a regular fix of this game, lol.
This is amazing, I wish them all the best but it does sound like they're gonna need an army to finish this. I really love the premise of this! Thanks for the video!
I feel like all the games in this genre are all inspired off of eachother, but with their own personnel touches, which is in no way a bad thing! They have nearly everything from Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon, and more, plus some of the things that everyone wished was in those games (Like growing up children). Honestly, it's amazing how games like this have developed over the years. Something I'd really like to see is the creators of all these farm simulators come together and make a super game! :D
Yeah, they all look to their peers and use what works, scrap what doesn't, and add to the formula in their own way. A super game...that'd be something to see!
i love playing stardew valley with my friends, they handle the fishing and mining and leave the farm to me. Its great to share a game we all enjoy. so when i found out that you can go fishing and have combat in the game i was so happy. Lets hope they do have a good combat system :D because that was the one thing that didn't looked to well
I am excited about this game - and I'm not mad about it getting inspiration from Stardew & Animal Crossing, which I also loved! However, there are small things that bother me and make me feel like they are just copying Stardew and Animal Crossing - the layout of the farm, the look of your farmhouse, the lift system in the mines, island hopping, the fishing animation, the museum, the way you move furniture around your house. These are all things I love about these games, and of course, I want more of them. But I feel bad for the Stardew creator who is a one-man team and who has worked so hard for so long on Stardew. I'm also worried that the massive amount of money pledged to this game will have a No Mans Sky effect, where people expect so much from the game that it is either going to be bad on release, or take a decade to come out. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this game - I really want it to be good!
Don't feel bad for concernedape he's been competing with other farm sim games for years. Stardew has its own appeal and I don't think he'll be "losing" fans. Plus stardew took alot form harvestmoon and the like so it's a normal thing in the farm sim world XD. I think the original ideas and themes this game has really seperate it well.
That's just the thing. I don't see these two games as competing. They're both able to exist alongside each other. I know for me, I'm not going to stop liking and playing stardew just because something new comes along!
i have been so excited about this game. got super into stardew valley during quarantine so this is really right up my alley. also, im romancing lily, i don't even care, she's my wife now
Lately the characters have but games like Tale of Two Towns and A New Beginning, the people look beautiful to me :) I do agree dating chibi-styled people is just weird
This sounds like it took all the best parts of all the farming sims I've played and mashed them all into one game. O__O I missed the kickstarter but I put this game on my wishlist! This video was very informative and I love how excited you are about the game.
Give it a few weeks and you'll be able to still. Any tier $125 and under will still be available for a limited time once they launch their pre-order store.
My newest Coral Island video just released!!! If you want to know literally everything I could find on how diving and coral reef restoration will work in Coral Island, you're in luck, because I'm a HUGE NERD! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JkveiodTHo8.html
I'm sooo excited for this game.. usually with SoS and RF (and even Stardew) I only like 1 or maybe 2 of the Bachelors but here I like EVERYONE of them!! The art style is so darn good.
I thought harvest moon games already died bcus of the parted ways of the two company but stardew valley and this? It looks so EXCITINGG🤩 it has like so many things i wished in a farming game.
thats because the harvest moon series changed its name to story of seasons over a legal dispute with its publisher and games currently made with the harvest moon title are quick cash grabs made by the company who own the legal rights to the name "harvest moon"
This is great! So glad to see a fresh take on a farm sim, especially in Indonesia, and covering the topic of environmental sustainability which is increasingly relevant to that region! Can't wait to see how it turns out!
@@flaminggunbaby Yeah, I feel the exact same way about the animations. I'm hyped for this game with the expectation that they'll get overhauled, along with the player models. Even if they don't though, I feel like I'll be able to look past them and just stare at the 2D portraits, lol.
1) Well, this one of the game with close to everything anyone can wish for BUT if I have pick on from my brain, kids growing up and not just ours town folks kids too. 2)This something I am not sure, but I want to huge the animals and the giants. Idk if they already allow us too lol.
That luwak (called 'musang' here in PH) is so stinking cute! And the way the devs incorporated them in the farming itself is gold! We need more games like these that promote sustainable development IRL! Thanks for this review! I left a sub and a like so others in the interwebs can hopefully see this gem too!
Thank you on behalf of myself and the algorithm :) I thought that was really cool too though. I actually just released another video explaining the Coral reef restoration aspect and it's just as rooted in real world issues. So neat to see!
@@DoctorDDub Yeah, what if you marry Suki? Will Valentine move with you and take one capacity in your max babies? Cause I be hella mad if Suki just leaves her after you get married.
@@DoctorDDub I hope they make it like real-life cause it's corny if some stork just drops it off. And I like to think of like what happens is like to hades when you romance one of them
Yeah, it's a nice mix of a lot of games, while also being unique enough to not be a straight up clone. I really like what I've seen so far for the most part!
It is so neat to come back to this video now and see the changes from early game. I've got just shy of 300 hours in at this point (not counting alpha hours, I can't see those numbers anymore) and even only a couple of updates in, this game is fantastic.
Oh my gods... there are so many amazing things about this game, but the thing that got me was the TIME SETTINGS. I’m always stressed out by how fast time moves in these games- so doing things at my own pace would be a godsend.
That's great to hear Cake! I always try to validate my purchases by watching product reviews, etc. even after I've bought the item, and I do the same with games, lol.
