This 1st episode of our Himachal Food Series brings you a fascinating road trip food experience while traveling to Dharamshala from Ropar. We had started from Delhi in the evening and had halted at Bharatgarh in Ropar. This video covers the food experiences that we had the following morning while heading to Dharamshala.
The day started with a humble aalu paratha for breakfast at Royal Dhaba. It was a hearty tandoori aalu paratha that was paired with butter and chai. After this wholesome meal we headed to Anantpur Sahib Gurudwara to pay our obeisance at this popular worship site.
After Anantpur Sahib we straight away stopped at Dayal Sweets in Una. This is a very popular meal point for travelers passing through this stretch. They have a huge menu but our pick was their hot selling puri chole and besan burfi.
Taste wise it was quite good and pocket friendly too.
Next we tried some coffee and paneer chilli at Cold Corner Bar And Restaurant, another popular pitstop for refreshments and drinks. The restaurant section was quite spacious and we enjoyed the paneer chilli which didn't have any overwhelming flavours.
From there we reached New Shri Guru Nanak Vaishno Dhaba for some Punjabi delicacies. After going through their impressive menu, we settled for a basic dal makhni, mixed veg and naan. The mixed veg was the best of the lot with the perfect spice balance and the crunchy veggies.
From there we headed to Mata Chintapurni Temple. After paying our obeisance at the temple we polished off chole kulche at two places near the temple as it is a famous delicacy over here along with some stick kulfi. The chole kulche were essentially thick chickpea curry stuffed inside a bun. But both the bun and the chickpea curry had a very distinct taste of their own.
From Mata Chintapurni we reached our last stop Sharma Punjabi Dhaba at Ranital Kangra. Since we were full we didn't have anything to eat but we made a pit stop just to listen to the fascinating story of the Indian Cricket Team stopping for an impromptu meal. from the owner.
