Thank you for this. As a boy scout, some 50 odd years ago, I learned to do many things like this and I loved the rope work. Tonight I started working on what I was taught to call a Marlinspike Macrame wrapped bottle

Can you do a video of a fender with two eyes? I am having trouble figuring that out. I make my fenders like you did in this video but need to have an eye on both ends.
@jessebessette7619
@jessebessette7619 7 лет назад
Robert Romaine I would imagine you could take those first two strands, and rather than have the ends be together at the bottom, put them end to end in the middle and then serve it with twine.
@Jorge-ew5dc
@Jorge-ew5dc 7 лет назад
Jesse Bessette I'll try that. Thanks
@threeriversforge1997
@threeriversforge1997 3 года назад
I had thought to make the center piece out of a rope grommet. That would give you one solid piece of rope from eye to eye and no worries about a serving in the middle being puled loose, however, you'd have to do your weaving around the outside with new rope unraveled. Another option would be to tie the fender just like you see here, but use a double-length filler piece as your second eye. Instead of cutting a bunch of filler ropes to 25cm like shown, leave one about 60cm and double it over. That'd give you the two strands stuck in the middle for padding and the eye sticking out the other end to match the eye like Mikko shows. Doe that make sense?

In a reply to another comment, you mentioned that you starched your rope to prevent strand ends from fraying. Can you describe your starching process? (Apologies if you already have, elsewhere.) I recently made two matching rope fenders following this video. Thank you for sharing your craft & your art.

the little I know about knot work, but the wall knot is the same as the crown knot, just upside down. I find the crown know easier so can I just turn this around and tie the crown knot? Also I'm love the MWK so if I left a longer loop, could this be finished with a MWK? Instead of splicing?
@mikkosnellman

Sure you can finish with any design you like. If you crown the fender upside down, do it clockwise, to keep the lay in strands even.
