I think it is VERY important to show the struggles that the horse is having and showing how you work through them.

Well, on the plus side she seems willing to learn a Spanish walk. But really, she was mad and frustrated with the rope but she never really lost her mind or came at you. She knew what she was doing and where she was placing her feet the whole time. The ones that scare me are the ones who lose their minds and they don't even know what they are going to do. Once she understands that things won't hurt her, she is going to be spectacular. By the time the competition rolls around I don't even think you will miss the week of handling that you lost.

i think this is the side of training a mustang everyone should see. it’s no easy all the time each horse is different and has a different mind set. amazing job.

So excited to see your journey with her. It's going to end up great, please don't compare yourself to the other magic trainers. You do you, and it'll all work itself out. You made a commitment to Newt, and that counts more than being on the same timeline as everyone else. Keep up the great work!

In my opinion,she is perfectly balanced, very well put together in every way. Her color reminds me of a blood bay / red bay . Has a Morgan feel about her . Love a DNA on her. I wouldn't let her go. She's perfectly put together. She's absolutely beautiful.

I’ve only gentled two Mustangs but countless Charolais cattle for show and I’ve found letting them drag s rope is the best way to teach them not to pull. Once they step on the rope they can’t pull away from their own weight and have to relax and think their way out. I have no doubt you’ll be walking her around in no time.

Please do not let the "lost week" bother you. I watched Chris Cox, Clinton Anderson & Pat Parelli at the 2011 Road to the Horse. Chris' horse was on the nervous side, so while Clinton and Pat were throwing noodles and tarps in the round pen at their horses Chris was crouching down in the middle of the round pen at his horses level waiting his horse out. By the time the other 2 had saddles on their horses, Chris' horse finally came up to him and touched him. Chris worked with his horse slowly, I cannot remember what all he did but it was very simple. He did not saddle his horse until almost the last hour I believe. Now on the Road to the Horse they are timed in the round pen to give the horses a break. So when the time was up the guys had to mount their horse ride out of the round pen and around the arena, walk, trot, lope and stop. Then there was a small obstacle course they had to take their horse through. Clinton went first his horse refused a few obstacles to me a lack of trust from the horse. Pats' horse I don't really remember except at one point going around the arena the colt bucked him off. Chris' colt was a little hesitant but he listened to Chris, we were all smitten with Chris by that point, his colt had a little sticky feet problem but Chris got him going. The last part was the obstacle course, that colt handled each one and did what was asked, Chris was patient and he was rewarded. That colt did not have all this "stuff" thrown in the round pen, I believe Chris has a tarp in there but that is all I can remember. I think you can watch the finale (which is great) on youtube,, it does not show the first part where Chris waited on the colt to approach him. If you get a chance to look it up and watch it, this was Chris' first year at Road to the Horse and he won 3 years in a row. Look up "Road to the Horse 2011".

I appreciate you putting in the “chaos” part with the lead rope. My husband always knew I wanted horses and he wants me to be a stay-at-home wife. So he adopted 2 mustangs from the BLM program. I have never gentled a horse before! My husband thought this would be a project to get me to stay home too. I have been watching your channel for awhile now on how to start the gentling process. And I rarely ever see the “ugly chaos” parts. I have been thinking that I just don’t have a connection with them because I have so much “ugly chaos” and I never see your’s. So thank you for adding that! It make’s me feel like even the professionals have moments too! And maybe I’m on the right track after all!!

Wish your videos had been around 18 years ago when I was training my pony,he is very sensitive and reactive.Watching you with timing would have been so useful.

Never seen a horse use their front feet like that, very interesting to see how she reacted and how you worked with it.

I'm wondering if there is a difference in the potential with this horse being much more focused on using her front legs. This mare to me seems to have a more confident fight to her, a real free spirit. She looks straight toward you. More than any mustang I think you've worked with. I got a feeling the first part will be tough, but she will excel on the real training.

So pretty can't wait to watch her journey.

I love her lol the toughest ones usually end up being some of the best so I’m excited to see what how she comes along throughout the makeover! What kind of camera do you use? I’m thinking of starting my own RU-vid channel following along my horse journey. Any advice on getting started? I attempted to get started with the Texas makeover but I bit off more than I could chew lol I had a ton of footage and It became really difficult to break it down into a shorter video that would be fun to watch lol I can’t wait to do another makeover now that I know the ropes a little better and what to prepare the horse for.

I have a feel7ng she may be so close to you. When it clicks with her, her head will be on your shoulder all the time. Almost clingy to you. Idk. She is so beautiful. I can't imagine how gorgeous she will be when get a brush on her. Hopefully she won't be impossible. She likes to fight.

This is awesome to watch, thank you. I have a mustang, not my first project horse but first mustang, and he’s been a challenge. Working now on a line finally but took literal weeks to get a hand on him. He still won’t let me go to his sides. Do you have any recommendations? Never have had an animal quite this defensive and reactive about it

Do you feel like the initial reaction of "oh dear god what is that and why is it following me" could have been prevented? Or that's just kind of the way she reacted and there's nothing you could have done? I just love that at 7:24, she stopped and just looked at you. She seems super smart, despite being a little more reactive. I feel like you should just teach her a spanish walk because obviously she sure thinks she can do it 😂

Oof. I want to pause the video and give you a pair of gloves because: ouch! (That said, I swore I'd start wearing gloves when I rode after I fell off and didn't let go of the reins. Rope burned the heck out of my hand. As soon it was healed, I went right back to riding without gloves. It's been hot, but mostly, I just forget.)

You're doing fine, that horse is smart as a whip. I'm guessing she was a bit higher up in the herd rank with how she reacts and tries to get her way and lead, and that's ok cuz once she realizes you're the leader she's going to be awesome...trust me. To me the competition is with yourself and not others, plus you know full well how setbacks can happen, they do all the time, so don't be discouraged, you'll get there. Can you do better today than you did yesterday. What's with the dummy advertising in your comments...pretty lame and I know it's not you

I love watching mustang makeovers, the advice i have for you is to upgrade to a round pen, this doesn't need to be a huge one but one that you can work with, this is because there are no edges on round pens and this would help as the corners that the pen you are using has, may work against you and the mustang, let me explain, mustangs have a flight or fight response, if they are forced into a situation that will ultimately scare or spook them and even in their eyes as you approach them they may see you as a threat/predator at first, they will use their flight or fight response while when you have corners and they are being forced into one corner whether it be by accident or not they can't use their flight response as they have no where to go and so they use their fight response which won't end good for you or the horse, so i beg you that you take this into consideration this will lower your chance of you or the horse getting hurt

I think you fail to realize how much trauma these horses have, if a horse is reacting this way even as a wild horse, you are going way to fast. You also seem to force interactions on these mustangs a lot, training should look boring and a horse should not be rearing, bolting, bucking during it.

I’m sorry but you yanking and pulling doesn’t seem like the best way to go… if I was that horse I would be lashing out too if I was being yanked on with a rope… I dont get that concept
