This is one of my favorite live performance of Rory. He has that pure, raw emotional energy when you watch him play. And Gerry McAvoy, the Bass player, was a beast. Rory fed off of his energy. They were together 21 years jamming together. Rory played a number of instruments. He also played the Harmonica and Mandolin. As well as played the slide guitar for that dirty delta blues sound. Glad you liked the song. We'll give you more Rory stuff now that we know you like it :)
Congratulations for finding Rory! Been a fan of this great guitarist since 1980 and love seeing new people discover his music. Fabulous rocker, amazing blues guitarist and astounding acoustic player, Rory was actively pursued by the Rolling Stones to replace Brian Jones. But Rory went his own way. For him, it was about the music- not fame or fortune. Please check out more of his great performances. Shadow Play 1979 for Rory at his finest as a showman. Any of the 1977 RTE "Me and My Music" pieces for his acoustic work. Bullfrog Blues or Sinner Boy for great slide work. Any of the Rockpalast shows. Have fun exploring the tunes from this Irish wizard who was rated right up with Hendrix & Clapton.
Great song/performance to begin a Rory journey. He was a one of a kind musical gift, the likes of which we'll not see again - a self-taught multi-instrumentalist who was equally brilliant with both acoustic and electric guitar. Rory also had a very diverse catalogue of music. For something very different from this I suggest "All Around Man" from the Old Grey Whistle Test show.
QUE BUENO HAYAS ENCONTRADO A RORY... ESTE MAGO, GENIO Y CARISMATICO DE LA GUITARRA NO TE DESFRAUDARA NUNCA... Y FUE MEJOR PERSONA, POR SIEMPRE RORY GALLAGHER!
Yes. Yes! Iet that feeling too! Do You Read Me! That's what I get from Rory! He doesn't look at his guitar. McAvoy on bass is feeling it too. It's his style, hard driving, unreal!
when he played songs live he improvised most solos and never played them the same each concert. He also used very few pedals to get his sounds, just played with a treble booster and bent each chord with his hands.. He was not very well known outside his fanatical fans. Now ,finally he is being recognised due to channels like this.
Nice to see people reacting to Rory. He definitely deserves more attention. If you're looking for some good guitar consider checking out a song called "I've got a mind to give up living/all over again" on RU-vid. It's by fleetwood mac and it's probably the best electric blues guitar you'll ever hear.
Being one of the old folks that had the pleasure of seeing Rory live years ago in Detroit, there was no better! Rory was looked up to by Jimi Hendrix, Clapton, Brian May and so many other of the greats! Rory lived his music!
Dude Kurt Cobain, no where close to Rory. Rory is a guitar genius pure improvision, Of you want to compare him to anyone it would have to be Stevie Ray. I saw him, and until I saw Stevie in 1985, There was nothing like him
