everybody underrates just how good a singer Rory was. i think that is what sets him apart from every other brilliant guitarist around that time. His singing really drew the audience in, he was on another level in the mid 1970's. i am going to get them to play Going to my HomeTown when they walk out after the curtains close at my funeral. I am old now and have to make plans, and i want them marching down the aisle and clap clap ...... clapclapclap ing on the way out.
The energy this man has is without a doubt 💯 and is what separates the truly great 👍 there are lots of great players but it's not just his playing it's so s
62 already been hooked in 1974 by Irish Tour. Since then I have been a life long fan. He is unsurpassable.!!!!!The best forever in so many ways, it will NEVER get better
68 years young & i first heard Rory from his first solo LP which my older sister had. Saw Rory a few times in the 70s & he never disappointed anyone. He played this small club in Washington DC called My Mothers Place & guys like Link Wray & Roy Buchannon played there all the time & Rory did whenever he was near on his tours sadly at that time, he was the opener, but it wasn't long till he was main act & he never looked back. Such a talent that only comes around once in a long while. So, if you are 48 & just now finding out what us dinosaurs know, well it's better late than never & you have mush great music to find from him. My suggestion is start either with his time with Taste or start at his first solo album & by the time you hit Irish Tour 74 you will picking your jaw up off the floor. 🎸🔥
Sad to see Rory's brother selling some so far of Rory's prized guitars & straps but as he is not a guitarist, I'm thinking he would rather see them go to great players that will use them as Rory would have wanted &hopefully not to collectors that hang them on the wall. Saw Rory several times in the 70s & was the real deal. I have seen this vid posted some years back & it's still as good as ever, wish it was on DVD like Irish Tour was. We miss him & that great band & all the other players that helped him make all his albums GOLD!! 🎸
Rory's strat is basically unplayable now, in any real sense. It's falling apart, and had been for years. As one of, if not the most iconic guitar now in all of rock history, it belongs in a museum.
As a french guy, i must admit, since famous, great, classical musicians, like Debussy, etc...we didn't got great musicians in the 20th century, during the best era ever, 1960-1970-1980... But, à lot of great bands, english bands, like Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, and, Rory Gallagher, were first famous in my country, while their own countries didn't knew anything about them, France, immediatly, loved them... And, they all had a special link with France! In my opinion, the best performances of Rory were in France....😢Live for CHORUS, is the best performance i saw from Rory, with his fantastic power trio! IT'S MAGIC.....When the crowd go on stage at the end, i, just, cried, and that was 6 years before! Each time, Rory came in France, he did incredible performances! He felt good! Because, we accepted him, long before the others😢! My master on guitar, Jimi Hendrix, once said, Rory is the better guitarist on earth😂(of course, Jimi Hendrix was too humble to say, he was the best😂But, i understand why the best guitarist ever, Jimi Hendrix, respected Rory so much)❤.....PS: as a french guitarist, an old roadie, i worked on huge concerts, with huge bands, Santana, Clapton, Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, I saw Ac/dc, Deep Purple, Ben Harper etc....I play guitar since 30 years....I, only, saw 1 guitarist, able to challenge Rory, with a fucking slide guitar:😂:Bernard Alison, the son of the blues legend Luther Alison....😂A pure bastard on slide guitar! The only guitarist, who's able to play slide guitar like Rory.....THAT'S COMING FROM ANOTHER GALAXY😂
Just here, in Brazil, South America, since the seventies, many people know and and appreciate the GENIUS of Cork. The world is much larger than you can imagine... 😊😅😂
It's a beautiful comment Jimi was asked what's it like to be the best guitarist in the world Jimi said you'll have to ask Rory Gallagher about that wishing you well and most happiness
@@gordonwebster9866 yes that the true story😄IN a tv show the guy asked Jimi, how do you feel to be the best guitarist on earth? And Jimi, so shy and humble, answered "I don't know, ask to Rory Gallagher"😄👍I love Hendrix, but Rory was a fantastic guitarist and singer!
There were a few trailblazers in the 60s 70s but Rorys style was unique. I always say it was because he was Irish. To have that musical heritage is priceless.
A few years back, after seeing Bernard Allison play a sizzling set at the Bayfront Bluesfest I told anyone who would listen that his slide licks and tone were pure Rory. It was obvious Bernard had some Rory records at home!
🌹🎼🎶🎵☮🎸🤗🎸☯️🎵🎶🎼🌹💖💖💖💖💖💖
I have so many favourites, how do you choose? If you really forced me, Calling Card. Bluesy, melancholic, genius. But when I'm in a different mood, Country Mile. Simple, powerful, and I defy anyone not to tap their feet and bop around to that one.
A million miles away .My all time fav. Rory Gallagher song. He was a great musician , if you don't know him , try his first solo album . Or his first band ; Taste , basically the same incredible stuff. And guys , he had a hit in Holland with Same old story .Those were different times
Rory affects my guitarslinger senses like no other. Well,Stevie Ray did--but Rory connects on an emotional level that I've rarely felt on first listen. I felt that with Nina Simone,Bach and a couple others. Wow,what a gift to my soul. Thanks for sharing the video. PS...his band, lawdy them cats are bad to the bone.
i saw Rory in 1973 i did not know who he was.. he opened up for Deep Purple at the time when they were peaking , Rory and his band were on fire and blew the roof off the place. he left the audience in a frenzy after doing an encore the crowd was standing on their chairs demanding more chanting his name over and over.. as good as Purple were back them he made it difficult for them that night. the next day i went out and bought everything he made and became a fan for decades
I saw Deep Purple and Fleetwood Mac in 1972 when Bob Welch had replaced legendary guitarist Peter Green great night for Fleetwood Mac . Unfortunately Richie Blackmore was in a bad mood and Jon Lord made their performance enjoyable for me . Deep Purple were having problems before 73 Ian Gillan and Richie Blackmore were butting heads over which musical direction they should go next. 😊
My first rock show in '73, Rory opening for ZZ Top about 2 months before the Tres Hombres release. Blues Rock, Slide Guitar nut ever since... RIP Rory, Rod, and Lou. Thank You! (keep rockin, Gerry!)
Best live act I ever saw, in West Germany two years before this was recorded. I've never seen a video that catches the electricity of him on stage, but this one comes closest.
Jimi Hendrix was once asked by a music critic ' whats it like being the best guitarist in the world' . He replied 'i dont know you should go ask Rory Gallagher'.
I agree with all you say , I'm Irish and we dident recognise this amazing talent. I first saw Rory in Dublin at the No 5 Club as Taste . Irelandlooked toUK for music while we gad musical genius on our doorstep . Irish TV This year showed documentary about Rory and we haven't heard if him since on Irish radio of TV 😢 SHAMEFUL.
in the interview Rory talks about The Marquis. The place where a young Brian May dared to approach his then idol and ask him how Rory gets his sound, and the rest is history.
