You will get disputes, like the Alvin Lee fan, [who was great], Gallagher belongs in any dicussion about that. Rory stayed emotionally connected to his music all the way to his death. Others did not. Some, like Jeff Beck went on tremendous cerebral journeys with their music and it was marvelous. But Rory was extraspecial. Sorry I never saw him live. Here he embodies Angus Young, Chuck Berry, Peter Townsend, Hendrix and all of rock.
I swear by the names of the Scottish gods and the dark Lords in Hell he is better then Eric Clapton Jeff Beck Jimmy Page or even SRV 👍👍👍👍👍👍🌹this guitar genius will sit on the right hand of the Father in heaven 🎸 and took over Lucifer as the chief worship Angel forever n ever Amen
No one but no one better on a live stage!!!!Rory Gallagher the modest, humble, soft spoken Irishman, that became a true guitar legend. Lucky to have seen him 3 times, pure lightning in a bottle. The celtic maestro, pure genius☘
I'm so bored reading that...Repeating a lie thousands of times doesn't make it the truth. I do love Rory but there's absolutely no proof of that supposed Hendrix word. (And anyway who gives a f*ck of ranking musicians)
Brilliant! No other word for it... Sheer brilliance! Rory never made it big in the U.S. but he is a guitar legend - a god in his own country (Ireland). Man, I sure would have loved to see him perform live. RIP Rory 🙏🙏🙏
Gather round the fire kids, going to tell you a story about a guitar mythical God who became 'as one' with his holy grail of a stratocaster guitar. If there wasn't video evidence, many would not believe someone ever existed. We were and are still blessed by Rory ❤️
You're right, first time I saw this brilliant band was '74 and Rod De Ath was still playing and Lou Martin had just joined for the Blueprint tour.Proud of shaking Rory's hand in 1980....he was a lovely, humble human being.Take care pal,
Rory Gallagher was a true legend and a role model for musicians like slash of GNR!I had the privilege of seeing him in 1979 with Jeff Beck in LA what a show R.I.P. Rory
Amazing... ❤ Rory's almost like a little boy here at times, just absolutely lost in the moment. And can we talk for a minute about what a MONSTER bass player Gerry McAvoy is?
Rory Gallagher.... he must be the ultimate unsung guitar hero... We recognise many false Gods... this guy could not be more mortal, but loved so much by so many for the loveable down to earth genius that he was... l love him. R.I.P.
This is THREE people playing - without any back playing gimmiks - seen Rory and this real great musicians at Hamburg Musikhalle in 79 - never ever forget, made my life! //
Understand! Saw him and his band in Bremen about the same time. Was there with a friend, a professionell guitarist. After a couple of songs he said, he had to go. I wondered how that was possible and he explained me, he had seen and heard so many things he could not understand, he had to go to the rehearsal room to try to find out, what Rory had done with his instrument. Lucky me am no guitarist - stayed until the end, impressed as never.
Incredible recording. The bass sounds amazing with the drums, and Rory's guitar is coming thru with aggression and power. Wow! Thanks for posting this gem.
The bass player, Gerry McAvoy, plays at the Rory Gallagher international tribute festival in Ballyshannon (the place of Rory's birth) every year. It take place on the June bank holiday weekend and it's the best music festival ever. Brilliant atmosphere. Brilliant music and wonderfully friendly people in Ballyshannon.
Saw Rory at an outdoor fest in us in 72 or 73 n blew me away and followed him since. Very humble down to earth man and one of the lesser, unknown, unappreciated, greatest guitar ever. The real and raw rock n roll legend. RIP my friend!!
The fucking IRISH HURRICANE lads, unlike most, you were damn fortunate folks if this monster of a force blew threw your town back in the good days! If you see my pops up there RORY ,shake his hand and THANK HIM for introducing me to you and other virtuosos when I was five !!!! Long live RORY GALLAGHER!!!!
I bought On the Boards by Taste in the seventies. Fan since then. So glad that I saw him on his last gig a few months before he died. He is in my top 5 best guitarists of all time.
I had the pleasure to see this guitar genius twice back in the 70s I was in my early teens, I can remember it as it was yesterday, he was just amazing, it got me into playing the guitar. God Bless my Hero 🙏🏻 a Legend 🙏🏻
Rory was one of our heros when our schoolband is startin at 1978! One of the first coversongs was „Shadow Play“ and we cried when we were able to do this Song! What a time in Life - thanks Rory for the Motivation you have given to so many musician all over the planet and we will never forget you !
I saw Rory Gallagher in the early 70s in Lincoln, Nebraska along with Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple. Rory Gallagher opened up, if Deep Purple wasn't there Fleetwood probably would have played to an near empty arena. Rory and band were incredible. In his field he's the greatest rocker, no ones since has comes close. A true innovator.
I saw that same tour in '74 (Long Beach CA). I don't remember Fleetwood Mac being on the bill. (Obviously, didn't make much of an impression.) As for Deep Purple, Rory blew them off the stage. In fact, they had to halt the show (for a bit) b/c of the chants for "Rory." Privileged to have seen him twice.
Modern Myth Productions wow! would loved to have seen that show. I saw him twice at the Ulster Hall ( Belfast ) and once down in Cork at the Macroom festival.
@@drewhamillband There's a monument in Cork for him, it's a bit weird and abstract but locals know of it. It's a shrine to people who know what an underappreciated genius this lad was.
Love this video…. I’ve heard of Rory but it wasn’t til a few years ago I really listened to his stuff. Regardless of his phenomenal playing he’s one of those guys who you gotta see live. I get goose bumps from the sheer energy he brings. Blue jeans, a flannel, a beat up 61 strat was all the man needed to electrify a house of 200 or 20,000 He may never have topped the charts or made millions but this rock and roll purist is reassurance that rock and roll will indeed never die. Besides who can say “thanks but Im good” when offered a job as a Rolling Stone”….Fu@in Legend!!
Bassist is also a Great rocker. He feel music. Love him. While Srv was a dynamit that a double troubles was a backing band or something This bassist rule
Power Blues Rock performed by a powerhouse, what a sound!.Real musicians, not like they try to pass off as talent today.Gerry's bass sure drives that beat.Gerry is still playing ,check out Band of Friends,a Rory tribute outfit playing purely Rory.
Absolutely incredible. The one & only forever Rory Gallagher RIP 🪦🎸 my absolutely favourite guitarist of all here, rocks and phases “Shadow Play” one of his great numbers and Rory a fantastic musician was also a great Showman & his band :-Gerry McEvoy outstanding as always on bass and what looks like Brendon O’ Neil on drums playing terrifically as well with that classic Premier Kit and bass drum look of the day signs this off in great sentiment. Yours in G man & co. Chris:/ Southampton UK and we loved you playing here Rory and you knew that ….
I was there !!! I was 20 ! the most powerful concert I saw in my life. Rory had a great energy on stage. I saw him many times in concert and he was always the same. We tried to do the same with my band :-) but it was not the same !! of course. We have great memories with my friends ! thanks Rory for ever !
What a man; I'm completely speechless. A living guitar on stage. And what a rhytm section: Gerry McAvoy a very underrated bassplayer; in my opinion equal to John Paul Jones and Geezer Butler. Not to forget a concentrated and dedicated scotsman on drums; Ted McKenna. Amazing clip; thank You.
Captivating I have only heard of Rory Gallagher not heard or seen him play till now sadly no longer with us but gladly I can still see him on video wonderful ❣️ musician. Great rocker
🥰 This is the same period during which I first saw Rory and his band (same shirt!). I was 14 and had only seen Don McLean (American Pie etc) live before (solo, an excellent musician, but a different kettle of fish!). Seeing Rory that first time was an epiphany opening my eyes and ears to what live music could be like! 43 years later, my ears still haven't recovered.
I'm in tears everytime I listen Roy Gallagher and this song especially, I don't know why, probably because he's still one of the greatest guitarist of all time, and surely because he reminds me my dad who offer to discover Photo Finish in 1978, I was only 11 years old. (love u dad, I miss you)
A true humble Irish Maestro on guitar, vocals and songs… I will always miss him, as will many others. his trio band has just killer. Never ever missed a beat… One of a kind. We will always miss you Rory… Alcohol took another one of the greats….so sad. But his great music lives on….
An absolutely fantastic performance. Totally leavin' it all out there. Heart and soul, blood and guts rockin' out. And I love the interaction with the crowd.
