According to The Irish Times, Live Nation Gaiety Ltd. also bought Rory's AC30 (£25,600) and Dallas Rangemaster (£12,800). Both will be on display with the Strat. Great news and it will be a great display.
Thanks for your kind words re the Strat staying here in Ireland. We are thrilled :) Neighbours always welcome to pop over and see it. At least it hasn’t gone to a closed private collection. Hoping Joe gets a loan of it for next Julys gigs in Cork! Have my ticket.
For a guy known for relying on just 1 guitar, he had quite the collection! Suprised by the amount of copy’s he had as they’d be more associated with beginners.
A guitarist of Rory's calibre will always sound like himself, whatever guitar he is playing. If someone like Rory, Keef or Jimi was playing behind a curtain, you wouldn't be able to tell if he was playing his signature guitar, or some piece of crap from a junk shop.
Wishing I could talk with Rory. Thank him for the years and years of joy in his music. I'd also love to ask him how he chose the instruments he did, what made them special to him, or just loving variety? Really cool on the part of Live Nation Gaiety and the National Museum of Ireland to save the Strat & gear for the museum, going to look into visiting Ireland now!
So am I.. And I'm a Dane Viking invader... My late Dad arranged Rorys first concerts here in Denmark, back in the 1960's. He took his dad, a Louis Armstrong-fan, to the first one, and that's why I know of Rory: My grand-dad told me: You have to hear this Irish-man!!
@@hansemannluchter643 That's terrific I'm from new Zealand and saw rory twice The second time was in Dunedin 1982 I jumped up on stage as was standing 3 feet from him Didn't last long before the bouncers asked me to go back to my seat I could have touched his stratocaster I was that close
Amazing brilliant outcome. Additionally the 'detractors' that voiced criticism of funds being spent in this manner have NO point to make as private money has assured the Strat returns to Ireland, along with other important items & instruments. The Strat will be in safe professional curatorship, available for viewing for generations to come.
Happy the strat is staying in Ireland where it belongs...at the same time I can't believe Donal let all of Rory's collection go.That was very heartbreaking for me. Congratulations to all who got a remembrance of this great man.
Excellent. What was the total? Apparently "Mr Allaher" bought those cheap copies to use for slide and in that spirit I bought a 2007 Gretsch Electromatic Junior Jet II last month for £90 plus £8 petrol
Thank god the 61 Strat will stay in Ireland for all fans, well done the buyer, I had a tear in my eye as I am sure many fans did when I found it would be staying home,
Indeed, as a Strat can't possibly look more Rock'n'Roll than Rory's No1. Battled and loved and with his DNA all over it. But still, most people don't even know who this Gallagher was other than guitar players, people growing up in the 70s and blues rock guys.
Great review of all the lots - I must admit I was interested in the green flight case, but no way would I have paid £14K for it - but fair play to the person that got it!
Thanks for making this video. Have you thought about adding classic Rory licks and riffs to your channel repertoire? His music deserves study, and you are a teacher and devotee of the highest order.
In a pinch, one of those new factory-battered Fender Mike McCready 1960 Strats could serve as sort of a poor man’s RG model. Of course you’d have to sand it down even more…
With all due respect to Knopfler and his awesome talent, he only has three songs and isn’t in the same class as Rory Gallagher….so his Les Paul doesn’t have the importance of this Stratocaster.
Fabulous player and,by all accounts, a great person.Grew up on Taste Live at the Isle of White.Incendiary playing.Never understand all the fuss about Cream at all..,Listen to Feel so Good from Tlatiow..Crossroads?..meh
Thank you for posting this info!! What a brother Rory had huh? He sold it all to the highest bidder. Trash. No wonder JB wasn't excited about the 61. It was probably already arranged to go to the museum. Which is where many of these items should have gone. Then lease/lend them out to artists to play at major concerts or tributes. Enjoy the money Donal 🤡.
That was well done my friend. I bet you he hardly paid anything for some of the stuff a lot of it is probably given to him the vox amplifiers is what I was drooling over
He paid £100 in instalments for the famous Strat, from a famous musical instruments shop in Cork by the name of Crowley's. I bought my first set of drums there, a second-hand 5 piece Ludwig kit.
