Maybe it's to reset FEater auto attack so she doesn't do damage to that enemy, and prevents the second wave spawning

The skill won't be triggered if there is no enemy in its range

Basically: Feater thinks she has a target, the blocked soldier, and can cast her skill thanks to him, interrupting her auto to play the skill animation. However, the soldier isnt actually in her skill’s range and since her skill fails to find a target, it refunds the SP. This can happen with a few other instant attack-style skills, off the top of my head- cutter cant throw her s1 knifes at someone behind her but will attempt to anyway.

she had claw dudes as targets the first two times, it doesnt target the guys to the side at all

if shifters use their manual skills when not facing an enemy they cancel their current animation basically using it to stall the last peon permanently, check the desc
