Rosario Dawson adopted her daughter when she was 11 years old, and she tells Kelly Clarkson that she always wanted to adopt an older child for a really personal reason. At age 5, Rosario discovered that her dad was not her biological father but it never changed the love she felt from her adopted dad. Rosario said her own personal history prompted her to want to give a child in need of a home the same kind of love one day.

I knew she had a daughter but I didn't know she adopted her,that is awesome..I am an adopted child,my grandma adopted me when I was 6..it was the best thing that could have happened to me because she gave me a wonderful home and I had an awesome childhood..I don't want children of my own,but if I ever change my mind I will adopt and I will adopt an older child..sadly the older children get passed over for adoption and I don't think that's right..the older kids need ❤ too,actually more IMO..it's like when people want to adopt a cat or dog they want the puppies and kittens..they're cute,but I'd rather adopt an older animal and that's how I feel about human children..good for her adopting an older child 😊👍

So my children's principal grew up in an orphanage until he aged out of the system at 18. He joined the military, did all of these amazing feats, became a teacher so that he could give back to his community. He was loved by all the children. Was one of the most compassionate people you would ever meet. He has since moved away, & went to a community that the school system was subpar, & wanted to work with inner city kids. He was trying to get the school system where it should be. It broke my heart that no one wanted him, & yet he rose above that challenge. He has a wonderful wife, & children of his own now. Mr. Burton your missed, & your worth far above your weight in rubies & gold.

Id much rather adopt than go through pregnancy & labor! Kind of crazy to me to still bring babies into such a troubled world... when so many need and deserve homes 😞 & so awesome they’re bringing awareness to the homelessness issue, they’re both such beautiful souls! ✨

I had a child because I wanted someone to carry out my legacy, my blood line, and I wanted my husband I to live on through our child. I believe the reason we're on this earth is to survive and thrive. I think we can mold a person who can make a difference in the world and make it better for the next generation after us. It's definitely not for everyone, in fact, motherhood is the hardest thing I ever had to do. I just wanted to give you insight on why some people choose to have babies. This is my truth.

People usually want to carry on their bloodline and it’s perfectly normal and natural for people to want their own children. I’m gonna play devils advocate here for minute but why should nobody have children because of a bunch of idiots who had children they didn’t want. Something to keep in mind a lot of these children can and do suffer from mental illnesses through no fault of their own usually. But that can make adoptions difficult especially if the child has something known as reactive attachment disorder. It’s all around sad but if people decide they want their own children then that is their choice. I pray for anyone who’s experiencing these difficult issues, I wish there was an easy solution

if anyone is reading this, and is inspired to foster or adopt, I urge you to read Dr. Karin Pervis' book "The Connected Child". Children and teens in the system need to be related to in a different way than children that don't have that trauma. It's an exceptional book and its helped my family tremendously.

I aged out of foster care I was in foster care for 15 years I had my oldest son in foster care the only thing they offered me when I turned 18 years old was a welfare check for $440 and I had 30 days after my 18th birthday to move out of my foster mom's house luckily my foster mom had been my mom for the last 12 years and she didn't make me leave she let me save money get a job go to school but there's not a lot of foster parents like that so if you do have the ability and the means or the space take in an older foster kid it means a lot and it could possibly change the path of their life

So happy to hear you had a foster mom who was able to let you do what you needed to do to take care of yourself and your son at such a critical point in your life. It really sucks that there are foster kids who don't get to build any solid relationships with their foster parents, bouncing around from house to house, and then get kicked out when they turn 18. I hope to become a foster mom some day but for sure I want to adopt (probably through fostering). Kids need stability to thrive and I hope to provide that foundation and ensure whomever ends up in my home learns basic living skills to succeed.

Two years ago, I adopted two brothers.... they were 7 and 11 years old. I am still their Dad and they are 9 and 13 years old today. My sons live in the rural Philippines. When I say live, I mean in a Gilligan’s Island type hut... no indoor plumbing.

For the past 3 or 4 years I've wanted to adopt. I think within this last year I wanted to adopt older. Because i saw a show called once a upon a time and the main character Emma was in foster care and she grew out of it and lived on the streets.

How sweet that she adopted a little 11-year-old girl!🤗 Unfortunately, there are too many young & older people that are homeless. It makes me think of Jehovah God's promise of a brighter future for mankind at Isaiah 65:21-23 (New World Translation). It reads, "They will build houses and live in them, And they will plant vineyards and eat their fruitage. They will not build for someone else to inhabit, Nor will they plant for others to eat. For the days of my people will be like the days of a tree, And the work of their hands my chosen ones will enjoy to the full.They will not toil for nothing, Nor will they bear children for distress, Because they are the offspring made up of those blessed by Jehovah, And their descendants with them."

My 8 yr old granddaughter will say something really sassy then after a small pause says, “Your welcome” she has learnt even at 8 (she is the youngest of two girls) to just have enough sass to be funny and not get into trouble.. I think the world is not ready for her, lol 😂

They get those services but a lot of them don't want it ; my family has taken care of foster children for 30 years (adopted 3)..... I know the ins & outs ..... many of the kids just wanna get free once they hit 18 no strings attached .

I wish I had the funds to purchase land and build tiny starter homes for kids who age out of the foster system, and create other tiny home communities for people who are truly homeless and help them get the mental health treatment they need. We have so many people homeless in this country for different reasons and who are in different walks of like, however, fosters who age out and the mentally ill have been ignored and left out of the conversation for so long.

Adoption is difficult in some countries some rediculous red tape and hoop jumping is off putting where I live that and the thousands of dollars you may pay and might miss out still. If things get better we would love to add to our family. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Mama- -Rua If you’re adopting from foster care there are sometimes grants to help with the costs and I remember one instance where a judge waived the costs and fast tracked an adoption for an older child.

Because the biggest "what if" criticism that will come is that kids will want to stay in foster care or more parents will deliberately abandon their kids. Some of it is legitimate criticism, similar to what socialism usually gets.

So many potentially homeless kids, and Rosario choose a kid who was already wanted. Just because her mother and father ditched her, didn’t mean her aunt didn’t want her. Nothing bad in my background (no drugs, alcohol, child abuse, and she already loved me like a mother), but I wasn’t chosen because I am not Christian.
