This entire "video" is actually the opening scene from the 1976 movie "Car Wash," and those weren't jail uniforms - they were legit work uniforms. Now, the fact that they were orange is very interesting in retrospect.

They are usually Dark Blue, which is the common Prison color for men, in this area. (Unless you are in AdSeg(Red), a Female inmate(Orange) or on a Medical/Psych Unit(Blue+White)

Orange so you don't get hit by the cars coming in and out of the car wash. Back then prison jumpsuits were typically striped as I recall.

This one made me smile! Yes we were singing this one! Back in 1976 the movie Car Wash came out, this was the song from the movie! I went to the theater to see it, it's funny Timothy, you should watch it, I'm sure it's online somewhere, Vudu, Tubi... Brought back some fun memories.

I never gave the orange jumpsuits a thought until I saw this reaction video 🤔 I was still a 12 year old kid when the movie was released. There are some legends in the movie for sure. Richard Pryor , The Pointer Sisters, and many more,

Most car washes weren't automatic but had a lot of actual car washers and detailers. This movie and theme song was big especially for teens back in the day to go and see in the theater. This song still is hot among those of us who grooved to it.

The orange jumpsuits were a normal work uniform back in the 70's. Prisoners back then usually wore black and white stripes. So the orange suits don't make that connection during that time.

I think orange jumpsuits for murderers is a relatively new thing. Back when that movie was made each prison had their own design. Stripes. Words like DOJ, the prison name, or even just prisoner.

This song was written for Gladys Knight and the Pips, but they were touring and couldn’t record it In time for the movie. I’m glad Rose Royce got to do it because it’s a classic, but I would kill to hear Gladys Knight and the Pips do do this song.

I was a baby, but me and my older brother was playing with all our toys making a carwash for all of them on our long stairs from upstairs down stairs to the basement. Yes the orange jumpsuits were used for that then 😂
