Bought mine a couple of years ago to work in tandem with my Taurus Tracker revolver. It works well for me, is reliable, cycles 38 spl or 357 rounds just fine. Price is right and, in a “situation”, doesn’t antagonize the fearful ones instinctually opposed to the “black rifles”. I recall you’ve done a shoot with the Rossi 44 mag also; I’ve paired mine with the Taurus Tracker 44 mag, just because. Again, price is right, quality is there, it does what I want. Working firearms rather than museum pieces.

Funny because my R92 wouldn’t cycle 38 special at first. But, keep cycling ammo through it and very quickly it was fine.

Mine has problems with .38 because they're too short. Even had problems with very short .357 mag rounds. It's not a big problem though because .38 are not cheaper than .357 where I live and I can avoid the extremely short .357. Everything normal .357 mag works really well.

I hear there are some videos online about an adjustment to be made to the lift gate for R92’s that have feeding problems. No matter what brand or gun, if you have the slightest issue, send it back to the factory! Most all manufacturers will happily make any adjustments that are needed.

Over 6 decades of shooting and collecting with hundreds of weapons bought and sold. I've owned a bunch. One thing that always flusters me are those that will talk trash about a weapon they actually have never owned. They regurgitate BS from others that are equally ignorant about weapons they have zero knowledge of. Having that said, one of my prize rifles I've owned for a few years is the 20" Rossi similar to the one in this video. It has case hardened nose cap, frame, and curved butt stock. In 357mag. Was a little stiff at first, but simply working the action some smoothed it out to perfection. Accuracy is remarkable. And I often go up against my neighbors in our area in the woods with their scoped AR weapons when we gather for some shooting fun. And I'll show up with my R92 and no one even makes a rude comment about it. Most just say that the old man and that levergun just never misses. And my Rossi R92 is box stock bought in 2016 for around $650 new. Best money I ever spent. So I'm sure the gun snobs turn their noses up at Rossi 92s. But while they're happy with their high dollar weapons they bought to impress others, I'll be shooting the pants off my neighbors with my alleged "piece of junk" from Brazil. 😏

I have a R92 since 2008, and 2 years ago I put a low power scope on it... A Brazilian Gunsmith invented a rail with a side ejection feature. It deeply changed the gun, making it capable to group 5 shots in 20mm at 50 meters with ease... That scope mount gave a new life for my gun!

I've had my Rossi 92 carbine since 2017. Very light and handy rifle; I put a Skinner rear aperture sight on mine because I'm not a big fan of semi-buckhorn sights. Also, mine also had an easier time feeding .38 over .357 in the beginning. Some .357 ammo did not want to feed at first; not an issue now, thankfully. I guess it got broken in.

It is fun to watch a whole new generation really turning on to lever guns. I'm an old fossil. I love "cowboy" firearms. Single action black powder revolvers, single action center fire cartridge revolvers, Sharps rifles, lever actions rifles, all of that. I grew up when westerns were the TV shows and movies were westerns for a Saturday evening's entertainment. The surprising thing? THEY WORK. Yes, there is a learning curve, but what a thing to learn! Sure, I like all manner of modern style weapons, but the soft spot in my heart belongs to cowboy type weapons. I do not have a Rossi...yet. That might change in the near future.

I installed the Lee spring kit, shortened the mag spring and thinned out the leaf spring on the loading gate. Now it's really smooth like a match gun. Still works absolutely fine. The original Rossi springs are all way too stiff. The original extractor spring ejects casings so fast you could almost hurt somebody with them.

I have TWO of these. Love them both. My first one has a stainless steel barrel, round, 20", with light-reddish brown wood. I got a second one with a black barrel, round, 20", and darker wood. But I got the idea of swapping the furniture on both of them so the colors would be a better contrast, and they really look GREAT. The lighter reddish wood looks so much better with the black barrel. And the darker brown looks better with the stainless steel barrel. BOTH of them shoot great, and the action is smooth. In fact, I sold my Henry so I could get the second one, I like Rossi better. I only use 38 spl. in both of them, and they work great. I cut the magazine tube spring to make loading easier, and smoothed the edges at the loading port. Now everything is smooth as butter. The sites were dead on out of the box, but since I'm 64 and need glasses, I replaced the buckhorn with peep hole sites. Not the expensive ones, but the round ones that go in the same slot as the buckhorn sites. Easier for me to pick up the target with those. I LOVE shooting these things, they're my favorite guns.

I had a Rossi .357 for a little over a year and rarely shot it (that was in the early 90s before my country's stupid mag laws came in and we all had semi autos etc). I found loading a bit finnicky (cut my finger tip on the gate once). Cycling wasn't perfectly smooth. I think these aspects probably would have smoothed out over time. The guy I sold it to never had an issue. In retrospect I wish I'd kept it. Light, relatively compact, handy and 10 rds of .357 on hand propelled through a carbine barrel. All in a country with ridiculously stupid gun laws (Canada) where this lever gun would be classed as non-restricted.
@maximilianmustermann5763
@maximilianmustermann5763 2 дня назад
The loading gate is way too stiff and the mag spring is too strong. You can easily fix that by thinning the loading-gate leaf spring and shortening the mag spring. While you're at it, change the other springs as well, especially the extractor spring, and you'll be amazed how smooth and easy the Rossi becomes. I think Rossi makes all those springs as stiff as they are because they want the gun to work after 20 years of not being cleaned in the back of a truck. Which is fine. But most people don't need those extreme springs.
@futhermuckerson

Lee's gunsmithing makes a complete spring kit for this gun. Between that spring kit and deburring, the action the Rossi r92 makes for a great gun.

I installed that Lee spring kit in mine. Also shortened the mag spring and thinned out the leaf spring on the loading gate. Now everything is smooth and light like a Uberti or Winchester. Unfortunately, haven't had a chance to take it to the range yet, but it is quite beautiful. A great purchase for a left handed shooter too since it's top-eject. The recently made Rossis generally show up with rough cycling and handling traits. Sadly, after the increasingly steep purchase price, they then need either professional or DIY smithing. Dave's Gunz has a great tuning video and some hotrod parts for the R92. Applying his procedures and a few specific parts upgrades results in a levergun that's as slick as the '80s Brownings.

I have 2 Rossi M92's, both 20" stainless models. One is 454 Casull/45 Colt and the other is 38 Special/357 Magnum, the 357 gets the most shooting for obvious reasons. One hint, just load the 357 part way and load the next the same and just push the last round in completely. There is a ridge where the magazine tube screws into the receiver and the cases can catch there with direct pressure from your thumb, with the next round pushing the cartridge just wiggles past that ridge it just allows it to bounce right around it. I have over 5000 rounds as far as I can tell through mine, the grandkids love to feed it anything I give them from factory rounds to my hand cast and powder coated rounds. After the first 500 or so the Rossi started to slick right up and now it still locks tight and loads as smooth as butter. Did I mention it's very accurate ? Shooting golf balls off the top of a fence post at 50 or water filled beer cans at 100 is a breeze. IMHO one of the best bang for the buck lever guns out there.

The 92s definately need a bit of internal refining to be butter smooth but worth the effort. Fantastic little rifles !

replace ALL the springs, polish everything and lop the barrel off at 20" perfectly balanced ... works as well in the field as a 30-30 out to 150 yards

Also grind down the leaf spring of the loading gate to make it softer! Works wonders for loading. I also shortened the mag spring and now it loads like any Uberti or Winchester.

I bought a Rossi like that 15 years ago except stainless & round barrel. I indeed had the same issue as Hickok but found that when loading I needed to push each round in with the next round. The other thing is I came with crappy sights which I replaced with Skinner peep sights. Maybe Rossi put better sights on the rifle now. Looks like Buckhorn sights on the rifle in the video

I've had an R92 for a few years now. My only complaint is the loading door is still stiff to this day. For what I got and paid for, I actually like this rifle. I think you do get more than what you pay for. Always feeds well, shoots well and is cheap enough that I don't worry about it taking some knocks in the field. For a simple working ranch gun, it does the job.
@maximilianmustermann5763
@maximilianmustermann5763 2 дня назад
The loading-gate on the R92 is a simple leaf-spring. You can make it thinner with an angle grinder or a dremel which makes it as soft as you want (don't go too far!). Also shorten the mag spring a little bit, it is really stiff as well. With those mods, it loads like a Uberti.

I have owned a number of R92’s, still have a loop handle 16 inch 45, a 24 inch octagon 44-40, and a round 24 inch 454 casull. Loading ports are usually difficult but can be tuned and they tend to soften with use. The action and trigger can be lightly tuned as well, even polished if desired.

@maximilianmustermann5763 2 дня назад
There's a Lee spring kit for the Ross R92 that works wonders for cycling the gun. The loading port is a leaf spring that can be thinned-out with an angle grinder to make it softer. Also shorten the mag spring a little. The original springs are all way too stiff.

I've had my r92 for a few years now and love it, sure I'd love a marlin or Henry but I couldn't beat the price of the 92. Hate loading the side gate but man is it ever fun to run
@maximilianmustermann5763
@maximilianmustermann5763 2 дня назад
The loading gate is a simple leaf spring that you can make thinner/lighter with a dremel or angle grinder. Be careful and don't take off too much metal at once, you can't go back. You can also shorten the magazine spring a bit. I have done both mods on mine and it's a completely different gun now. It basically loads like a Uberti now.

The R 92’s are a bit rough, but well worth the money when you can get them for around $650 or less, a couple hours spent with them with a fine file, some sandpaper and a smooth stone will get them running real slick, it’s also easier to load them partially with the bullet case sticking out of the loading gate a little bit and using the next round to push it in.

I have owned one of these since the early 80's. Action was a mite rough starting off, but it smoothed out,or I just learned how to operate it correctly. The only problem that I have encountered was the breaking of 2 firing pins. I hope that they have straightened that problem out.
