I recently set up a 4th rotary axis on the far end of my router. The center-line is close to the spoilboard height so I have about 150mm of Z axis travel above it. When it's not required, it can be lowered down out of the way. The tailstock can be easily moved and it can hold material about 1m in length.
It's mainly used to speed up manufacture of the kit parts. Here you can see it machining the end & sides of the M8 threaded rod used to terminate and tighten the roller chain on the kits I sell.
Next I'd like to add a 2nd (small) spindle to drill the 2.5mm holes without any tool-changes.
