While converting my lathe to CNC, I needed to make a mount for the Z axis stepper motor/ball-screw support. It occurred to me that a steel angle would be perfect for the job - but only if I can get everything lined up perfectly......
Initially I was going to centre drill all the holes with the CNC router and drill them by hand, but the large 40mm hole would have been difficult to do, so I grabbed an old 2 flute end mill and tried to "mill" the steel. The results were pleasantly surprising so I machined the whole thing from a piece of scrap 75 x 75 x 6mm EA in under 20 mins.
A close up at the end shows the result - some chatter but pretty good results overall IMHO. And the end mill survived OK.
