In my book I talk about how using a transformer converter is like using nitrous oxide. To have the motor start correctly you need to have the amps on all three legs contributing to the start. As you can see the rotary converters don't do that. Here I start the 10 hp vacuum cleaner with two rotary converters. First using a 30 hp idler and the second with a 55 hp idler. To get the 55 I added a 25 hp motor to the 30 and re-balanced. Who the heck wants to run a big huge idler motor just to run a simple vacuum cleaner. A rotary converter will not supply enough amps to the made up leg to be efficient at starting a heavy load.
