Went through the major differences between the two engines and brought some more information about the two engines. Also show the interchangeability between the engines! Comment with any questions!!
Bro keep up the good work. Your knowledge on the rotary engine is bye far some of the best tips and tricks I've heard. I was never to confidant on building a 13b or 12a bit with your knowledge and coman Sence I'm sure it will be mint. Cheers mate
Hey! Sweet vid, sorry I’m a bit late. I have an rx8, and I was thinking about doing a 13b rew swap for turbo power. Would I be able to get irons that have just an intake port, and get the housing exhaust ported and have a semi p port for the intake? How many parts would be interchangeable? Can all 13bs handle a supposed 700 hp? I’m just looking for around 350-500 wheel in the end, and 13b rew engines are super expensive.
Pretty cool stuff, iam getting ready to help a buddy either go from 12a to 13b or we may just turbo charge his 12a i was wondering about the flange difference.
Do you have a video about the 13B 4 port na motors from Japan? I’ve ran 3 of them in all my FBs back in the early 90s. Use to be an abundance of them here back then.
Well, I think I got myself a backup plan for my 79 12a rebuild.. If I understood correctly, getting some 13b gslse housings that are machined down to 12a width, and coolant grooves machined in. the only difference would be larger exhaust ports? Think this will make my rebuild possible again. Got tired of searching for usable 12a housings. And have to get it running soon due to it needing to pass inspection again.
Hey thanks for the rotary content. Just got a first gen and working on the restoration. One question that I have is, are the radiator fan clutches interchangeable between the 12a and 13b? How about fb vs fc? I cant seem to find a fan clutch for a reasonable price anywhere thats fb 12a specific.
They are interchangeable but the best option is to remove the mechanical fan and add electric fans on a relay and electric thermostat switch. Turn the fans on at 200 degrees and off at 190 degrees.
Food for thought guys......if you are a Machinist or have a friend that is a machinist ..... Listen up! 1.....using a .100 wide 2 flute end mill 2......set your cutting depth to .060 3......generate a cnc program to duplicate the o-ring location EXACTLY like a 12a..... ONLY YOUR GOING TO USE 86 TO 92 13B HOUSINGS!!!!!! it works perfectly!!!!!!!! Pay attention to detail any you guys will have success 🍻
I have a question the 13 B motor up to I think it's like 92 you can find the carburetor switch kit but when it comes to like a 2004 13B you cannot find that kid are those Motors really that different
Have you ever worked on attatching an FC subframe into the FB? id imagine it would make things easier to install the 13, but I suppose also the rear diff of a GXL would also have to go in. Reset the driveshaft, It would make a heck of a race car. Still retaining 4 lug hubs. Ive only seen and read a couple cases of it being done online
Could you use MSP side housings with a 12a rotor housing? MSP rotor housings have the coolant ring design like in the 12a motor. I am looking at getting a 1st gen with a 12a. The 12a is might be tired, so when I have to rebuild it, I want to make it better flowing.
Yes on a S1 rx8 engine iirc. I would verify the oil pan works, on an S2 the oil filter is on th front. I cant confirm that. You will need the gslse water pump
Hey man I no you have dun a video on diffs but I'm wanting to no what crown and pinion would fit my 79 rx7 im from new Zealand hard to get rx parts here I'm wanting to change my for 3.9 to a 4.?? For better acceleration just seen if ya no any other mazda diff gears that would bolt in cheers
You can mount any of the 13b rotary engines to your 12a trans. You will need an NA diameter flywheel and clutch that matches the rotors balance in the 13b
yep you can, however the FC/FD plates do not share the same intake manifold bolt pattern as a 12a. so if you use say FC Turbo 2 4 port plates with 12a housings, you will need a custom intake manifold. On the other hand if you use old school 13b irons with 12a housings, the 12a intake will work.
@@RADPotential The other question i had was that somebody told me, if I did not want to do a bridge port for an aggressive idle, I could simply do a drill port for the same effect. However I do not know what a drill port is, Is the correct
@@RADPotential I have a 1983 gs... stock and I have a gsl 12a turbo. I do have a 1973 engine from rx3 wagon and a engine in pieces fr9m 1988 turbo II... just don't know what direction to go with stock car. Thank you.
These are engines, not motors. The 12A is 1.2 liters not 1.1 liters. Now because of the way the ratio of torque angle compared to the degrees of eccentric shaft rotation you should double the displacement. The 13B is equilivent to a 2.6 liter reciprocating 4 stroke engine.
