Here’s what u need to no......It hurts like hell on day 2-3. Get the nerve block and stay “ ahead” of the pain, take meds as soon as you feel your fingers!!! DO NOT GET BEHIND THE PAIN CURVE!!!
I am going for gastric bypass surgery soon. I have torn my rotator cuff. I'm in so much pain. I'm scared to tell my Dr. Thinking it will delay my gastric sleeve that I've been working towards a year. Should I get the rotator cuff surgery now or can I wait until after my gastric?
Day 3 after surgery. Pain block wore off after 20 hours. Pain meds last 3 hours and between hour 3 and hour 5 is the worst Pain. 10 for sure. Brings me to tears. Not sure how long this severe pain will last but I had some major repairs done. I cant even get up without help. Worst pain 💔
I had rotator cuff repair, two of the four tendons were badly torn plus a few bone spurs. I took no pain meds except for standard ibuprofen. I’ve experienced very little pain. I’m in my 5th week now. For me, it’s been an inconvenience more than anything. As some have stated, everyone is different. I’ve been fortunate.
I so scared ro get my surgery. I had a large tear in my right rotator cuff but do to not having insurance I've never gotten it. I've manage to move my arm as normal in the past 3 years but trying to lose the 60 pounds I gained since then and working out again, my arm is hurting and sore once again. Jesus help me💓🙏
Interesting. I had a large rotator cuff repair and also a labrum repair. I'm 5 weeks post Op. Really didn't deal with pain. Hardly took any pain killers. Guess we're all different.
I go for a m.r.i. Friday I had xrays.i may have to get surgery soon. I am in pain a lot going on 3 weeks in pain. I dread it thank you for your video. My nerves are shot. I have had 3 surgeries for my back..spinal fusions. I don't like being put to sleep..
Ya I had three back surgeries since about 2008.i didn't like to be put to sleep either.but when I did get to that point I physically calmed myself.telling myself it.s gonna go well.im not a holy roller but I said a prayer.went thru the surgery came out good.for me after my surgery my back hurt for quite a while.even with med.s an put.phy therapy.u really have to weight it out can u make it with the pain u have now.or is it damaged to the point where u have to have surgery.myself I wish I havnt had any of the surgeries.because I seemed to be in alot worst pain from the surgeries myself.everyone.s different.so really.really weight it out an good luck with you're decision..
@@mamaof2crazyboys So why you had twice ? Im asking because Im gonna have surgery I got tear off supraspinatus 3,5 cm so what you saying worth to do it or not ? Because I'm so Scared Please let me know
@@honda115a not bad. I’m at 7 weeks and feel much better. The first 2 weeks are the toughest. But you get through it. I didn’t have much pain. Take pain meds and all the other meds as your DR prescribes. Much easier to manage pain if you get in front of it, rather than try to get rid of the pain. PT is the key. I’m waiting one year, then considering doing my right shoulder. Good luck to you. You will survive this and you will heal up. Be patient!
I dislocated mine 14 times within 3yrs now finally getting surgery the 18th, once you dislocated your shoulder more than once you need surgery therapy won’t help.
am 10 days after surgery ... have slight swelling in forearm fingers ... reduces after sleep at night but comes back after home pt like pendulum/bicep curl/ shrugs / side controoled move with help of other hand ... do not know which exercise causes it
I had surgery on July 6,2021 and the doctor told me on the day of my follow up a week later that i needed to start physical therapy right away I turn around and told him " NO " I'm not starting physical therapy until i'm ready he looked at me and said ok you can start in 10 days but i'm still scared to start physical therapy i had a rotator cuff surgery on my other shoulder and i waited 6 weeks to start physical therapy i don't know if this on is any different i will be moving my therapy for a later date till i speak to the doctor again.
Hello, great, helpful video! I will be undergoing a similar surgery soon and realized the part of the video where the pillow for the sling was mentioned. I was told I may need to use it as well, any way that you could have Terry in another video wearing the pillow and speaking of how to cope with it? I'd imagine it makes the sling experience quite different. Thanks!
thanks for the reply. It doesn't make the experience much different although it does make it a little less cumbersome. The reason hers was not in is because the surgery center uses cheap slings and it was falling out. It doesn't change the pain with the pillow usually. If you tear/repair is small you may not have to wear it. It is basically surgeon discretion. John Oxley PT
The reason why I asked those questions below is because 14 years ago I had the same surgery on the same shoulder seems like it failed they open me up the first time this time they did orthoscopic
Thanks for sharing.Im on my 8th day of recovery from rotator cuff surgery. Was given a nerve block which last for 8 hours. As soon as I felt the pain I began my meds every 8 hours as prescribed. The first night after surgery was the most painful. Was a 10. But by day 5 I weaned myself off the pain meds. I've my follow up on Monday March 18,2019. Good luck to those who are about to do the surgery.
I’m 5 days post op , pain is tolerable but first time I removed the sling was so painful, I haven’t remove my sling because of the pain I had , haven’t shower yet
I’m scheduled to get the surgery next month, how do you feel now that it’s been over a year? I’ve had knee and hip surgery also, they say shoulder takes the longest for recovery so I’m curious how you are doing now.
My question is can they knock you completely out when doing rotator cup surgery I do not do well with nerve block I have anxiety claustrophobic Ness and can’t handle having my whole arm just asleep
Typically 1-2x's depending on how well you are doing. If you are very stiff then more than if your motion is excellent. Rarely do we need to see the patients 3x's per week.
I am 4 weeks out of surgery. The 1st 48 hours was terrible pain and I started to question what have I done! But by 72 hours the pain was under control and I had a nerve block and took my medicine on time every time but it still hurt a lot crazy. I had help the 1st day then I was on my own.
Yeah that’s my situation too, but I’ve also got my elderly mom I care for so I’m having a sister come the first 2 nights, hoping she can stay longer but I don’t think it’s possible! then I’m on my own! My mom does have aides come to help her, so hoping I’ll feel better after that first week! Any advice from those who did this alone would be greatly appreciated! I’ve been watching tons of these helpful videos to gather as much in formation /help as possible! Thanks for making this, one too
Susan Dempsey how did you make out alone after your rotator cuff surgery? I saw your post you had to go it alone ! I will be too ! Any helpful advice I’d greatly appreciate
