I just picked up my first 1200GS so I’m looking for videos like this.

you should fit these cans under the back box with the rack
@AdamChandler86
@AdamChandler86 6 лет назад
Hmm, not sure how that'd work. The Upper Box mounts to the rack directly. Can't put a Rotopax in between there I don't think.

where did you get the plate to mount the rotopax containers?

AltRider Luggage Plate. They used to be pre-drilled for RotoPax but I think you need to drill it yourself now. It's aluminum so easy to drill where you need holes.

Hi Adam, Good vid as usual. I was thinking of using the same setup for my Rotopax so I was interested in the AltRider pillion rack you have. You mentioned you got the rack used. Does it look like the previous owner modified it or is it an old version? AltRider's website only shows a rack that cannot be removed as easy because it is captivated by the grab handles. Also I noticed in a later video, that you were considering to move the Rotopax to the rear. I'm wondering why you would do that as it moves the weight rearward and higher. Keep up the good informative vid's

This is an old version but AltRider has included etch lines (please call them to confirm) on all new plates so if you need to install a specific mount, they have guide lines for you to do your own press/cut since it's aluminum, it's a pretty easy modification even with a Dremel. Based on the quality, I think this was a revision where they included those cuts already. I did run a water jug on the rear for a while but stopped. I agree it upsets the weight as the liquid moves around and you can feel it off-road sometimes pulling against you. Not advised anymore.

Something doesn't look right with your top locking system on the rotopax. It is a two piece system, you are missing the piece that locks into the dimples and then the top piece that locks that into place. With both of those you will not have any movement and will not need straps.

Hi. I'm curious, in bad weather wouldn't water slip through the place where the passenger seat used to be? Are there any electrical components in that area?
@AdamChandler86
@AdamChandler86 6 лет назад
It does get wet down there but everything is sealed up. It's all waterproof down there with a drip hole in the bike's plastic pan to allow water through.

How did you get the panniers to open side ways, neat little idea
@AdamChandler86

@@AdamChandler86 didn't know, i just got the normal aluminium boxes that open from the top like up/down and not side to side. it was my first gsa so i was green lol but were so expensive. They were £400

If you vented them wouldn't they evaporate because of the heat

I’ve thought about Water Rotopaxs but I cant see needing the fuel. Where are you headed that you will need to bring extra fuel? Cheers

I ride with a lot of small displacement bikes so I’m generally sharing fuel with them out of my tank.

For me I like to fill up with zero ethanol fuel when I can. The stations that have it exist but not everywhere. The rotopax lets me extend to get to them on my regular tour route. When I can't reach, I'll get what gas I have to.

Please can you tell me the name, brand or model of the plate, i need one for my bmw r1200 gs 2018.

It’s the AltRider Pillion Luggage Plate. You need to drill holes for RotoPax. But they include a cheat sheet to make drilling easier.

Can you use the grab bar with the cans on?
@AdamChandler86
@AdamChandler86 5 лет назад
Partially. The canister sits almost completely flush and gives little space to put your fingers through but the back of the grab bar is still exposed.
