amzn.to/3T8PQ0t - XT60 to barrel adapter, 5.5mm x 2.1mm. Buy female to plug into the RotorHazard. If your power source has an XT60, then get the mail version also. If your power source has a barrel plug, then you only need the female adapter.

😆 I've covered transmitters with pots and pans to crush the ExpressLRS signal across the house, but never used a bucket to make it directional. Thanks for more RotorHazard content!

It's much easier to calibrate by just starting a race, saving it, and then adjusting retroactively. No need to sit there and mess with the enter/exit points speculatively.

If anyone is reading this in the future, if you're using a nuclear hazard and the WINSINN 5v 40mm fans from amazon (which is what the kits originally shipped with), then the fan should be turning on when you power on the system. If it doesn't then swap and splice the ground and 5v wire (or re-pin) as the polarity is backwards from the factory.

For shielding of the timer, and to make the signal pickup more directional, you can copper tape the inside/outside of the box, keeping one side uncovered. I use this method along with a metal ammo can. Thank you power spliter at the timer idea... Been running races a while and I'm not sure y i nvr thought of using a splitter like that. Oh and the event setting to change the consequtive lap quantity is also very helpful.

Action 2 is my go to fpv cam. I prefer the ultra wide image over gopro. Looks fast and more cinematic to me. The weight is the main reason I'll won't go back to gopro. But I'm just a Freestyle pilot burning a couple packs at a time so it does what I need it to do.🙂

I made a webcam-based lap timer with speech output. Pretty sure there are phone apps that can do that too! Doesnt work for races (it cant tell drones apart), but its amazing for solo practice

I need help 😢😢😢 I just got the jumper t light v2 and I need help flashing it I open the configurator and set the release as 3.3.2 device category should be jumper 2.4GHz and the device should have 2400 tx but the only options are stuff that says 2.4GHz please I need help I might quit I don’t want to I want to fly whoops

Couldn’t you set your phone in front of the bucket . If not what would the pin out be for the esp32 or the 5808 for a Ethernet connection.I have a buzzer cell checker for the battery that rc planes used to use to let them know when it’s time to land.

Great info, one question, how do I power the router out in the field? Will a Type C to 5V Balance Plug from the same battery that is powering the lap timer work?

That depends entirely on the router. But the specific router I used won't Powe from regular USB. I haven't found a way to power it except the factory adapter. So based in that you'd need an inverter.

Great video. I'll try building a fpvsim timer tomorrow, but I am also interested in getting my hands on a rotorhazard lap timer. I really tried to find a building kit, but I can't find a shop. Do i really habe to buy the PCB from PCBway and all the parts from mouser?

Thank you this is very useful! I’ve been looking for a better way to connect to the WiFi router to run the rotorhazard software without having to hardwire it. Maybe I’m missing something obvious, but what are you using to power the WiFi router?

Buddy of mine from the page donated me a 3.5” quad with a vista . Just need dji googles and few batteries and I’ll be able to get some fly time and n and help with the stress of everything that’s happened. If you have an extra pair they you donate would Mean the world to me and help with the stress. I used a pack. Pulled it out checked the battery and was 3.5v per cell so all good. Battery wasn’t hot. Sat it down ran upstairs to get something to eat and my mother in law was screaming fire. Ran down and was like wtf. Got her out ran upstairs and got kids and wife out. Ran inside got the animals out. Ran back inside turned heat off turned attic fan on ran downstairs and started to put fire out. Was so Smokey from ceiling to floor. Ran into a door half opened and got a concussion. Continued to fight the fire and saved the house. Was in the icu burn unit on breathing tube and induced coma for 4 days. I’m out now but sucks losing all my hobby stuff and couple rooms in my house. Flying is my stress reliever and could deff use that now. Been stressful last week but family is safe and I’m in recovery

could you make something with a repurposed ''laserbox'' that was made to display when the laser got interupted? and given how wide the whoop is i imagine you need like 8 holes in the bottom and 1 side pipe to create ''laserbarrs'' with mirrors for the whoop to pass through. seems like a hassle but not much is needed to make that one time and have actually pinpoint time measurments gowracing seems lots of fun, but i would only take or beleve my own time with actual logical measurements where miliseconds are importand

RSSI timing isn't as accurate as an interrupted beam, but it neatly solves both timing as well as knowing which pilot crossed in a multi-pilot race.

I have a funny feeling the next video is going to be about connecting it to FPV Trackside so you can video sync your laps and using the replay feature + jump to best 3 laps to make your racegow dvr review super easy and was the way I did it until my laprf broke :/

Seems a bit silly to shield the whole device, including wifi, when the only thing you need to partially shield is the "FPV" antenna. Why is not separate from the rest ? And why is not a highly directional one?

The system uses off the shelf rx5808 receiver modules which have integrated antennas.

A quality antenna costs good money. A paint can you already have costs nothing. You can also, of course, build it any way you like.

@@JoshuaBardwellActually no, it's just a bare connector. But testing has shown placing any antenna at all on the 5808 increases its sensitivity, which is not useful for timing-even if it's directional. To make that work you'd also have to buy or build an attenuator.

I am not super smort or anything but it's always bothered me that these race timers never came with reflectors. Two trapezoidal angled plates at the receiver will essentially make it blind beyond a certain FOV while making it incredibly accurate where it's aimed. We did this in high school robotics team in 2003 to detect a ball passing through a pvc gate pretty much like this. So my flabber is a little ghasted that in competitive drone racing the timers 20+ years later are so.... inept.

I don't think that will work, because the RotorHazard also has to power the ESP32 and the RX5808 modules. So typically you run all that off a separate regulator. The PoE hat will just power the Pi, I think.

Yes, yes. Tell me more about how every professional race in the world for the last five years is doing it wrong, and your idea is better even though you actually have no concrete idea and wouldn't know how to implement it if you did. Amazing. With an ultrasonic wall of whatever, how do you distinguish between multiple aircraft racing at the same time? The vTX solution is elegant and effective. Your idea isn't even fully fleshed out. Next time have some humility.
