EPISODE 11 - Rotorway Exec 162F(&A600) #Overview - The Cheapest Two Seat #PrivateHelicopter in the World! S1|E11
The Rotorway Exec (originally called, Scorpion) 90, 162F and A600 Talon are all truly great helicopters that I cover in this video. The Exec 162F is one of my all time favorite private helicopters, because a used one is so Affordable ! At around $50,000 US, it is easily the #Cheapest two-seat helicopter, some other two-seat helicopters getting up into 400-500k new!! If you want a private helicopter and are on a budget, look no further!

To clarify for anyone still reading this: - In the US, you can fly without a pilot certificate an aircraft that weighs less than 254 pounds with a max airspeed of no more than 55 knots. - You can fly with a restricted license called a Sport Pilot Certificate (Light Sport Aircraft license) an aircraft that weighs 1320 - 1430 Max Takeoff Weight. This is regardless of whether it is considered experimental (kit built) or certified. However, in order to get a Sport Pilot Certificate, you have to find an instructor who is willing to instruct in your personally owned experimental helicopter. That will be hard to nearly impossible to do. You will need between 30-50 hours of flight time. At least half of that time will have to be with an instructor (including ground instruction). Instructors charge about $50 an hour. You will have to add about $250 an hour to that cost if you have to rent an FAA certified helicopter in order to get instruction.

There's no LSA for helicopters. The mosquito with floats qualifies for ULTRA Light because the "safety device" weight weight allowance reduces the weight below Ultra Light Limitations, making it the ONLY Helicopter ever made that didn't require a Medical certificate and at least a Student Pilots License WITH a Flight Instructor SOLO ENDORSEMENT It could be flown with ONLY a regular DRIVER'S LICENSE 🚘=🚁 😂LOL

it would be good to hear about asymmetric vs symmetric helicopter blades... you know, advantages of one over the other in phase of flight, control, hover, autorotation... you know the drill :-)

I own a Rotorway. That 1 hour flight and 6 hour work is a total lie. All from people who don't know. As long as you understand this is not a lawn mower and you do PROPER mainteance it is a well built machine easy to fly and autorotate better than many other certified helo.

You can actually get a new A600 for about $100k. The turbocharged A600s have a useful load of 655 lbs (this is not the same RW133 engine!) . Also, all of the helicopters currently being produced have asymmetrical blades. Something I think it was left behind is the impeccable safety record of this helicopter.

i wish they made these slightly larger, with more head, elbo and leg room for the pilot and passenger. and a useful load of 1600 lbs. with a 900 lbs cargo compartment and a side access door right behind the 2 seats. that way people in remote areas could use this as a grocery getter. having a counter rotating rotor or increasing the blade count would also be a good idea because they are more efficient than 2 bladed designs and provide better lift. if we could get all that for 75-90k that would be amazing.

What this would be ideal for is someone who owns or manages a really large farm, ranch, or orchard complex. But honestly, we're so close to having manned drone-style electric craft that would be an even better fit for that purpose, I'd wait for one of those - they'd be quieter, cheaper to run, and probably more compact.

I don't know about you? I like helicopters that have a lot more blades beyond 2. Having only two blades is louder than having 5 blades. For instance. So if you want a quieter helicopter ride? You're going to have to purchase, 3 more blades. So it sounds more like a fan instead of a jackhammer in the air. You know? I mean you could get ticketed. For having an excessively loud pair of blades. And you certainly don't want to hollow out and take the packing out from inside your blades. To lighten them. Because it makes them louder. And you will be ticketed for having Open Blades.. And you cannot land or takeoff. From your home helipad. Before 6 AM or after 10 PM. And that's one having a Harley-Davidson will become much more practical. You don't even have to sit in traffic jams. You just simply lane split. And you will be unencumbered by, rush hours on the freeway. And never slowed down on a Harley-Davidson. Like you could be in a helicopter. Given Aeronautical Rush Our Hour. And would then become impractical. With all that hovering on the way into work. Because of too many helicopters in front of you. I mean I have that option. When I was a Broadcast Engineer working for the Voice Of America. As we were right across the street from our Nations Capitol building. At 3rd and Independence Avenue NW. And I can walk across the street for lunch to have in the cafeteria. Rubbing elbows with congressmen and senators and law clerks. But they were all very boring. As they had a Heliport on top of the building. It got fairly regular use. And so I had one available at my disposal. At work. In fact I even think they used our heliport. For people in the building across the street? Yes I think Andrew Cuomo came in one day when I was there. That way.. Before he was governor. I think he had become the, SEC, FCC? Federal Communications Commissioner was it? I forget? That was like over 18 years ago, now. When we were all still young and reasonably good looking. But not anymore. As that big of mine at the VOA. Was right after my brain surgery in 2005.. When I got a call out of the blue. As I was home convalescing from brain surgery. 6 weeks earlier. When I was asked to do a, Worldwide Network Television News Broadcast. At a place I had never been. A control room I had never seen. An audio console I had never used. A show format I had never seen. After being mostly incapacitated for a few years. Not having done a network television news broadcast for, 6 years earlier. I said okey-doke! Proving I had,, Major Traumatic Brain Damage. Why would I ever commit to anything like that? What did I just get myself into? Was this a joke? I am going to find out tomorrow. I am going down there! To check out the control room. The day before I need to use it! They had an audio console I knew about but was not familiar with. Had never seen one nor touched one. Because it was a lower end model manufacturer. And I only used the top ones before. And now I'm going to use a piece of junk made in North Carolina? With the name of a farm? Wheatstone? That's near the end of our alphabet. What about the other American manufacturer, API? But no! They have a Wheatstone. Give me a break? This thing was made in, Taiwan, North Carolina. It was very Plasticky. Color, off gray. No method of monitoring, post bus, dynamic range limiter. What's with that? And nothing is in English. Except for the director. This, will be a challenge. But I like a challenge and will help with my continuing, convalescence. As it has just, kickstart my brain. Like a high-powered jumpstart. And of course on Thanksgiving Day. The worldwide telecast went off without a flaw. I had Officially Recovered! And then they asked me to stick around for another year and 1/2. But in the end. Asking me to make a commitment to the VOA. And our Federal Government. To come on board full-time. With the promotion. And told. How much I would be making per year. And after working for the VOA for year and 1/2 after my brain surgery. I had to go through a CIA security clearance. Sure no problem I'm good.. But then. One of my engineering managers and a couple of my colleagues. I had known for years earlier. All told me to lie. In my CIA security clearance hearing. About my personal medicinal use of, Marijuana. Which I know. Helped to ensure the function and validity and less damage. To my extremely, badly damaged brain is from, a severe acute case of hydrocephalus. And I have a copy of my MRI,, to prove it. So in my CIA security clearance inquisition. They asked me about my use of marijuana. This is where I was supposed to lie. And tell them. Oh… I haven't done that in decades. And I would have my, $80,000 plus, Federal Job as a Technical Director working for the Voice Of America. But I decided to be honest. I said yeah. Last night like I do every night at home, before bed. Well? That changed everything. And they informed me. This was permissible. And that if I want to work for the VOA for the rest of my days. I must make a legal commitment to stop. And they had me a contract. And so I thought. While this helps me. I survived my brain damage and brain surgery. And I'm being offered my life back. My career back. And Serving My Country. Which is something I always wanted to do. But I didn't qualify for what I wanted to join the military. So I didn't when I was younger. And now here I am! This is great! And the following week. As I finish doing a news show. One of my engineering managers comes into my control room with a Federal Officer. And they walk me to the door. They have decided to Fire the Handicapped. Because of my, Honesty, Commitment and Hard Work.. For the VOA. Because I was honest! I was completely devastated. I had already worked for them for over a year and 1/2. As an independent contractor and subcontractor. And then they asked me to go to work for them. And a week later they fire me. And so I spent what little money I had. For a Federal Employment Attorney. Who proceeded to tell me for my $175 visit.. I was screwed. End of story. And I wondered how they could do that? To a disable handicapped person? But I am a true patriot still. My country right or wrong. It's not perfect. It never will be. But it is the best in the world. In 18 years later. I still haven't recovered from that devastating blow, financially. I never will. And then after the death of my husband of 22 years together. I made the mistake of thinking I could quietly,, retire, in Texas. On the invite from a friend. And since I had lost my home as we were not legally married after 22 years. Even though I had invested in it. Common-law marriage laws are different in every state.. And I lost.. Everything. Only to get attacked in Texas. By these parasitic bigot anti-American, elected official, monsters. By the name of, Physical & Mental Cripple, Greg Abbott Costello. Who isn't funny. Mr. Hatch Act himself Danny Patrick. And Ken Paxton as Dr. Joseph Mangler. In the 3 Stooges Attacks the LGBTQ.. With gales of laughter. With helter-skelter brain-dead scenarios. Surely to be a big hit with the most demented of the anti-cconservative Republicunt, Grand Old Parties. In cooperating the American Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan with Q. With Ted Cruz as,, Q. Matt Gates as a Klingon Bipka. Which will sure to be a hit with the, preschoolers. In the next,, Madcap Episode called, Which Way Is Up? Now playing on the ISS. There is but one way to stop, Republicunt's, from Destroying the USA's Democracy. Vote them out. RemyRAD

As far as I know not really, the Robinson helicopters are the ones really well known for that problem … however helicopters very often do have “life limited parts” which means they only last so long … which should be factored into the hourly cost because when the parts run out of life it can be relatively expensive for the helicopter. Common items like this are in the rotor system which again is a large cost of the helicopter … hope that helps 😊

I think toward the end of the video there is some Sound Advice. These,, Toddler Choppers were, mostly all, kits. Meaning? Some other Flake. Like yourself. Built their first helicopter. And you don't know how that went? And so the old adage holds true here. If you want something done right? Do it yourself. And since these were kits. You should get the kit. And build it, yourself. It comes with directions. All you need is a screwdriver. And a License for Excitement! And certain death. But therein lies the challenge. To see how many times you can repetitively and repeatedly, cheat death? Because that is so much fun! That's why God created motorcycles! In Milwaukee Wisconsin along with beer. American, sort of beer. For a clear bottle of stale champagne beer. In classic cooked pasteurized light yellow beer. With a red label. Should have been a warning indicator, years ago. It doesn't really taste like beer. Though it is something of a facsimile, to beer. As in, it'll still get you arrested. But was hardly worth drinking. And is precisely why. I prefer. The hoppy flavorful goodness. Of a full-bodied, India Pale Ale. That goes down real smooth. With no disturbing poop,, aftertaste. With an, ABV of 9.0% from New Belgium Brewery's, Voodoo Ranger IPA Imperial. (This is not a paid commercial endorsement. I use my own money. To consume such luxuries. And just say it like I slurp it. And will dearly miss them. If I find myself in an area of the USA. Where they have made no inroads yet.) Because when you are looking to save money.. You definitely want the best, Bang for your,, Buck.. With a great tasting, wonderful, Beer Facsimile called Ale. It tastes almost like beer! And is not thick and syrupy like, Guinness Stout. And still shines through clearly with a beautiful rosy color through a nice glass mug. And oh so right. I mean this is what they should serve at the Renaissance Festivals. But no. They don't want everybody getting that drunk. As drinking one is like having two. You get twice the fun for half the price. And you can learn how to make it at home. Because it's too difficult making a lager beer. I mean if you were a fanatic, you could? Why waste the effort? Because you don't like the taste of Hops? Is that why? Why don't you try chocolate milk instead? Put that in your cream of mushroom soup with chocolate. Nestlé's makes the very Best Mushrooms. Maybe one day but not now. Aunt did Hershey's purchase Nestlé? Remember Nasca Faye? It was sort of make-believe coffee. A division of Nestlé and/or Nabisco? And does anybody remember, Forfull the Dog for, Maypo Cereal RemyRAD

I would like to incorporate an asymetric profile into my helicopter. The lift to drag ratio is better than symetrical, and from what i have read most of the larger modern helicopters utilise it, yet helicopters like the md500 series still use symetrical.

Yes I think its a fairly complex topic that there unfortunately is not a lot of info on. Very generally though I think symmetric are for more efficiency and thrust (lifting power) ... where symmetric is more for a wider range of collective travel and authority (blade angle of attack and esp. neg pitch blades) and reducing dis-symmetry of lift issues

I would say expect to pay somewhere around 1,000-2,000 (this is a just a guess) for an annual or 100 hour inspections, which are your major maintenance costs. If you have an A and P license you should be able to do a 100 hour youself, and if you have a A.I. rating you can probably do the annual yourself. Then you would only need to pay for parts/consumables and would expect to pay maybe 250-500 for parts per inspection. Hope that helps!

In my country we use bricks not wood, like bricks size of computer case. So if you want a garage to be taller or wider its so easy, just than your house is being build you order exactly as you want. and its very cheap as its only some more bricks to buy and making garage wider. The houses are like bunker its damn strong. Still its sad in usa huricane areas people build chopstic houses. We have them here too some people choose them , but very little %. In my country you order the way you want. And for people who say ow bricks wont hold huricane wrong, we had similar huricanes and houses capable to stay, some roof may fly yes, but walls no. Similar houses in ukraine, and there is bombings from arty shells and they stand. Guys get inside as it capable to stay and hold tank shells, arty shells, rpg , shrapnel no problem. While wood is poof gone.
@deanfowlkes

Please help me understand the point of your comment and how it is relevant to this video. Having lived in wood-frame and concrete block houses, I can tell you that your point is largely irrelevant. With either type of house, you can and would have to specify or special order the size of garage door that you want. The door itself is usually mass manufactured to be the height of the average family vehicle. However, it is very easy to order a sectional door at any size that you so want. As far as storm damage, it does not make much of a difference. You will have major repair and replacement work to be done. People buy wood frame houses because of size and price. You let insurance worry about storm damage.

I don't know? If I have to worry about getting an inexpensive helicopter I can afford for around $50,000? Then I probably don't need a helicopter. Yes this thing seems to be one of those necessities in life. Nobody really needs, except for, a financial status symbol. To show off to your friends and other cronies. That's the reason to own a helicopter. Instead of a car. Because a car would be far more practical. Than owning a helicopter. Only self-important narcissistic people need.. I mean I suppose, is equally, a hobby? A nice affluent hobby. For very affluent people. I have an acquaintance. She has a helicopter. It's a very luxurious helicopter. It's a jet copter. It holds a fair amount of people. I think it was a $10 million helicopter? Maybe it was 15 million? I'm not certain? I've never been in it for a ride. I've only been in a Bell Jet Ranger a couple times. It was very strange feeling. Being suspended from a little pole with a couple of narrow blades. And it does not instill the feeling of, safety and confidence. You are going to survive above 20 feet. I had a good friend who was a Vietnam, US Military, medevac, HUI,, copilot. That had gotten shot up. While piloting guys out from a war zone. Telling me he took a piece of shrapnel. Into his ass and intestines and screwed him up, for a while. And upon getting out of the Army. He started getting, job offers. From, police departments, fire departments, big corporations, TV News. Aunt back in 1976. Getting an $80,000 per year offer,, was no small thing. But Mike told me. He never wanted to fly a helicopter again! He would rather become a rock 'n' roll radio DJ, making $25,000 per year. And that is what we both became. And refused to ever fly a helicopter again. I was very taken aback by that. As my dad had become a private fixed wing aircraft pilot.. And I had become good enough to be able to solo.. But never did. And after being on that, Bell Jet Ranger in 1976. Shooting a commercial over a farm in rural Maryland. As we were hovering and my boss the cinematographer and I. We are both sitting on the edge of the removed side door. Getting the shot. When we were hit by a gust of wind. This gust of wind. Blows the helicopter nearly over. I thought we were goners. I thought we were going to die. I thought we would fall out of the helicopter. To our deaths. As Max is hanging out of the helicopter with the 16 millimeter movie camera. And I'm hanging onto Max's, pants waist. As we both merely topple out of the helicopter. Thankfully, this other former, Nam Jock helicopter pilot. Kept us both from dying. And all we were doing was hovering. And these helicopters don't do well in strong winds.. You really don't want to fly one on a windy day. As this day was a bit windy and overcast. When we tried to shoot this commercial for Hans Sausage. And while we were successful. Without dying. Helicopters are really creepy beasts. It's not like an airplane with wings. Because with wings. You have a Glide Slope. For however many feet forward you drop 1 foot. Helicopters only go up and down. The ground is very close. Auto rotation only works at an appreciable altitude. And so there is no auto rotation, close to the ground. And I personally would rather not experience that for myself. There is no doubt. Helicopters are a marvel of invention. To have ever thought you could do such a wacky thing. And then Make It So. Ipso facto, can fly vertically, sideways and backwards. Once, Sikorsky, worked it all out. I personally think helicopters are great! You just, risk your life flying one. Of course it's the same for, motorcycles. Of which I rode for over 30 years. Without dying. Without getting hit. Without going down. At speed. I think personally owning a helicopter. Is, a little like owning your own submarine. To take friends to see the, Titanic. Not really something you needed to actually have or do. Other than an, Adventure! Kind of like jumping out of perfectly good airplanes for fun. To see if you don't die. Before hitting the ground. Yeah, not smart. Death wish, for sure. Only a few people need to jump out of airplanes. When they can no longer fly. And you happen to be in one. As so it's just another affluent rich boy sport, now. And if you have to worry about getting a bargain helicopter at $50,000 for a used one? You probably don't need one. As you also have to keep it, garaged. It's not like you can park it in your driveway and leave it there. I mean I guess you can? But why would you want to? You don't have enough money? Then you probably shouldn't own a helicopter of any sort? Because if you need a bargain for $50,000? You have already made too much money. And you're not making really good decisions now. As you want a helicopter to have some fun with. You don't need a helicopter. You have no reason, to own a helicopter. How about a nice Harley-Davidson, instead? You can still kill yourself just as easily. But do it with more style.. When you get hit by a Cadillac.. Instead of running into the ground.. You know? As what also happens to your life insurance rates? Did you look into that? No of course not. You were looking for a bargain helicopter for $50,000. How about a nice Land Rover or Range Rover, instead? Though if hit by an elephant without insurance? I don't know how that would work? And who you would have to put your insurance claim in width? Your company? Or through the Country of Kenya? Perhaps the Congo? It might be different? That you would have to take that all into, account. Before purchasing your $50,000 bargain helicopter. And when you purchase a helicopter. Is it like purchasing an, Electric Toothbrush? And they give you some extra Blades? After those have hit, tree limbs, branches, telephone poles, power lines. And you need to replace your blades. Do they include some spares? And where do you keep them? So you can change them. When you need to? Like a flat tire. HUH? Do store them in the boom of the tail? Like a trunk? And they give you a small set of tools with a screwdriver. So you can replace your blades as needed? No? Why not? Then why purchase that helicopter if it doesn't come with any spare blades in the trunk? Do they come with little blades? You can put on temporarily until you make it to, a, Heliport? Where you would then purchase a full-sized blade or two. They would then install for you? No? Why do I have to do it? Is there a towing service available? No? It should fit in the back of a pickup truck? And then how do you lock the blades down so it doesn't take off like a Gyro copter .. Without a pilot. While you're on the highway.. Shouldn't you have a large rubber band to hold the blades in place during transport? Obviously owning a helicopter requires some, in-depth further looking into. And to get a trailer for the car. When you need to drop off and pick up your helicopter. And drive your helicopter across town. To get a tuneup.. Or an oil change. Sure. (More Whirly's in following post)

There's no such thing as a light sport helicopter license. The only helicopter in the world that you can fly without any license is the mosquito XEL which qualifies as an ultralight. All other mosquito models including these two-seater rotorway models require registration with the FAA and a full helicopter license to fly.
