Fixing the Rotorway. "It all came together"

Rue bought a 2004 Rotorway 162 Exec Experimental helicopter without even knowing if it would fly at our altitude. After getting the parts we need to properly service the machine, it's time to discover the truth...Does this Helicopter even work properly and does it have the power to fly up in the mountains at between 5300 and 8500 ft density altitude?

Can you tell me how much hours of work and money needs to be put to build and asamble it. Excluding purchase price. Aprox number. I am in the phase of buying already half build one, which is sitting in garage. Thank you

Hi, enjoying the video, you mention that Elastomeric bearings are there to absorb vibration, there actual function is to allow the blades to change pitch. Normal bearings under the high centrifugal loads will gall and start to bind over time. When a cyclic input is made the blades are changing in pitch twice a revolution of the rotor. That's a lot of twisting under a lot of force, Elastomeric bearings were one solution to the problem.

@@435alive Look forward to your next episode! Helicopters are fascinating and incredible machines when you start to learn how they do what they do. People spend years trying to understand how it all works. I spent 5 years designing and building my own helicopter, then I taught myself to hover it. The project is still on going but I can hover for about 1m 30 seconds. A technical hitch stopped the project for a while but I'm back on it now. Enjoy learning about them, the more you do that the more you will what to know. Cheers Ben

Thats why you need to Have proper training as a certified Heli pilot. Helicopters are no joke and people who think "oh how hard could it be?" have no idea what they're up against.

Could you provide more info on the gentleman who helped you? Also about the Rotorway community you mentioned? I have a ~2000 vintage 162f that’s about 80% complete sitting covered up in my heated shop since new. Need some help. Thanks
