I love how you can tell that the first family had already been doing training, but they admitted they still needed extra help. It's also great that the second family asked for advice before they even adopted their dog. Well done, families! You are very respsibal dog owners!

our family always has several dogs in the house so we cycle through puppies fairly regularly, lol. it really is like bringing home another child - they need to be potty trained, fed the right foods, stimulated and educated and taught language, LISTENED TO. a lot of people don't know how to actually listen to their dogs to understand what the dog needs.

Couldn't agree with you more, they did exactly what Victoria advised them to do and then some (crate command!). Personally, I think Elise was golden from the get go, she did most everything right before Victoria came by but I think the walking schedule was the root issue and caused by her not having time for more than three walks a day--which is completely understandable! I also respect her husband for stepping up to the plate to help Elise and Raven after recognizing the personal boundaries he set were too harsh.

This is what I do not understand!! You have an agreement and all of a sudden when someone wants to break that agreement said person is surprised when there is any pushback!! It make absolutely no sense whatsoever🤷🏼

My experience of raising a puppy was easy, and very fun, I'm not saying he was a greta student, or that I was a great teacher, rather that I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience, and was not tired out by it in the least. I had done a lot of research, and studied dog behaviour so it is fair to say that had a reasonable advantage over the average owner, but only because I put in the time and money beforehand. Everything did not always go smoothly, but even the bad moments (and they were not few and far between) were an opportunity rather than a burden. An opportunity because it was mutual teaching, I was learning from him, while I trained him.

@kila8046
@kila8046 Год назад
Maybe you can change the way you call her. A lot of people call their dog and put them back on the leash right away. Dogs are smart and after a few times they know why you are calling them. It’s important to make it ‚fun‘ to come to you. Offer treats/toys and play with here or pet her 1-2 minutes before you put a leash on her. When you are going for a walk call her up to you, reward her and let her go again a multiple times. She needs to notice something good is happening when you are calling her.
@michellereed3272
@michellereed3272 Год назад
Well of course she does. The woods are too exciting to pass up. Working on that recall somewhere less distracting at first really helps. Make yourself the most interesting thing in the room when you’re training. A curious young pup is easily distracted by everything. Tasty treats should get her attention.

True story, the elementary school I went to many, many years ago had been a parochial school in the very rural area of west Ohio. The Church was right across the road and the priest came over all the time during recess to talk with the kids in his parish. This priest had two greyhounds. One day as I was out with all the other children, and I being the smallest kid, the dogs started running after me. These big dogs knocked me down and proceeded to lick my face. The priest ran to us and was getting the dogs away, he kept saying "Are you alright, kid?" They were playing, I just got to be their fun play toy.

Victoria: Nothing I could do could get this puppy off of me!! OK.. so you're an expert dog trainer, right??? How about taking your thumb and jamming it down the puppies throat???? You can't do that with a full grown Doberman, but with a puppy??? PROBLEM SOLVED IN FRACTION OF A SECOND!!! This video is nothing more than a highly produced, dramatized TV show. A competent BALANCED trainer can solve these problems in a FRACTION of the time and AMAZE the owners MUCH more than Victoria. The ONLY thing that Victoria did right was to introduce a crate, but the protocols for entering and exiting the crate were COMPLETELY WRONG and did not introduce any concepts of leadership to the dog. I would LOVE the opportunity to follow up with these dog owners or to go ONE-ON-ONE with Victoria in these situations to evaluate WHO is able to fix the problem more efficiently, effectively and faster and with longer lasting results. But... she's a professional actress, and I'm not.... so she has a TV show. Ask yourself when looking to resolve your dog's problems, do you want an actress, or the best dog trainer.

You're just upset she gets to show ways to train dogs differently and you nitpicked TWO instances of the show which is the crate which you're mad she isn't using your technique which news flash there are a bunch of techniques for things such as that, and a technique used in the military of jamming a thumb down a puppy's throat and last I checked Victoria isn't a military dog handler. She's a dog trainer. There are also so many different techniques out there and you nitpick two instances in what was a 40 minute video, which was a crate, and the fact she didn't bother to jam her thumb down a little puppy's throat who was just playing and still learning right from wrong. There's a reason you got zero likes on your comment.

Yeah not sure so many of these SO or partner just goes a head and get a dog then expects others to do their job. The fact is the matter is a dog is just like having anyone child and more. She just got lucky. But people shouldn’t expect others to take care of other’s duties especially when one says “I don’t want a dog in my life”. Many people even on this show break up because they didn’t even want dogs in their life. And dogs can usually tell if your heart is not in it or loves the dog. Then more often a couple ends up breaking up over a dog. Just watch some other videos. People shouldn’t get dogs when both people don’t want it.

We got our rott (my avatar) and my wife's niece and husband got a pup from the same litter. We trained our rott from day one, they didn't. Two years later our rott was well behaved, friendly, and obedient, they turned their dog in because it was attacking the family and they couldn't control it. It's NOT the dog, it's ALWAYS the owners.

I’m just taking aback how lightly people take getting a dog. A puppy is like a baby it needs a lot of time. The first weeks with mine were just evolving around him. Potty training, we were out eight to ten times in the day and every three hours doing the night. He was potty trained by week five with little accidents. And training a puppy is also a huge thing to do. I don’t say I did everything right by far I didn’t but he just turned two and he is in training as a Therapie dog. Of course we have problems and had them of course but we mostly enjoyed our puppy time together. I would wish for people to think more about what it means to get a dog. You can get a lot of joy but it is work, a lot of work. So just get a dog if you ready to but the work in.

I have an 8 week old dobie and I'm going to use this uh oh method for good behavior around my kids and other critters. She's very mouthy, but Ive worked with her on my couch, playing with her, and anytime she bites or nips, I yell OUCH and get up off the couch, disengage the playing, and stand with mt back turned to her for about 20 seconds. The nipping and biting has greatly decreased. I think using a lead and removing her from the living room once she gets mouthy with the family is going to be a game changer, so glad I found this.

My partner and I have had six dogs over 40 years, and I worked for a pet supply chain which held training classes for most of those years. It is not like I don't understand how much work is involved in having and training a dog. I do. Our last dogs, a pair of dachshund/spaniel cross rescue dogs, died about three years ago, at the ages of fifteen and sixteen, of old age. I really miss having a dog and feel very lonely without one, but I am almost 80 years old, and I don't know if I can provide what a dog would need. I used to work for a cat rescue, but developed an allergy to cats, and I have had a cockatiel, but don't know if it would be fair to get a cockatiel at my age either, since they live fifteen or twenty years. We would get an older adult dog, maybe around 8 years or so, and a smaller dog, under 25 pounds, which is the size limit in our senior housing community. I am trying to decide if it would be fair to a dog to get one, or an older bonded pair so they would have company of their own species, which I think is important for a dog. I am feeling depressed not having a dog, but I don't want to get a dog for selfish reasons if I can't provide all the dog would need.

I think it depends whether you have a good support system - if there's a way for You to arrange someone to take care of the dog in case you are unable to for a period of time, or in case something happens? Would friends in community help walking them if you caught a nasty cold? Younger people ought to have contingency plans as well but as we age or fall ill it becomes more important. If you can walk short distances few times a day and have resources for vet care with heart full of love you could still be an amazing older for an older,lazier small dog or a bonded pair. I've always had oldies (12+, at least!) as they always captured my heart and all the small ones would be incredibly content with what You can provide regarding exercise :)

Even this crate is much too small. Who leaves his dog like that, not able to move all day? I´m from Germany, almost nobody has a crate at all, and just for safety in the car. And if someone would leave his dog in this all day and someone else recognizes, he would be punished by law. Happy we have this hard rules. Can´t imagine how hard it is for this dog not to be able to move all day. Go and stay in a room without a smartphone or anything for an hour and you´ll get an impression what it´s like!

It constitutes animal cruelty in my country when you lock up a dog 70% of its time in crate unless it’s sick and at the vet, and you can go to jail as it’s felony. These people think dogs aren’t a living animal? Don’t get dogs and cats or animals if you have to lock them up most of its life. And please don’t get pets when your partner just doesn’t want it. You cannot change other people’s minds when ones don’t like it. And especially when when they tell you you have to 100% take care of it by yourself. A dog is much better off with another owner who is at home all day or can work from home. Not for someone who is out 70% of its time.

If it’s for when they’re sleeping at night or you’re not home (until we’ll trained), and the crate is large enough plus never used for punishment, it’s fine. A lot of dogs use their crates when they want to be left alone, too!

Don’t yell when they run away, bring treats so they know you getting them is rewarding. When you work with them, groom them every single time. Grooming is essential for your horses health and your connection and trust with them. If you need any off-lead training lmk. There’s free lounging which can also be very connective for you and your horse.
