I've building a Frank Klauz type bench but I'm using the same Bench crafted wagon vise you have. I've had it for 10 years now. I'll have the same doghole strip as you have made. Thanks for the tips on that and the wagon vise install. The hounds tooth video is next.
What a great video series! I'm very impressed with your channel and wish I would have found it sooner. Which type of crisscross did you order from Benchcrafted: solo or retro? I’m in central lower Michigan and purchased 8/4 hard Maple at 9” and 10” x 9’ and 10’ lengths. From a local mill. They jointed, planed and sanded everything and the final cost was an astounding $1300 dollars and that’s only for the top! Hard maple is supposedly the least expensive of all the hardwoods. I called around to about 6 suppliers and these guys had the least expensive at $8.50 bf.
I got the maple two or three years before I even started building the bench before the prices started to increase so I guess I got lucky. Thank you for watching and commenting. It really helps the RU-vid algorithm!
Hey Chuck, I secured it to the studs in the wall 😂😂😂. If you meant where did I get it then the answer would be: It’s from an old restaurant. It was used in the kitchen to hold up written meal orders for the cook to easily read. Thanks for watching. I appreciate it!
You built a beautiful bench. My bench is build from construction pine and 18 mm MDF. The legs and stretchers are pine and the top is a MDF box construction. Why ? Because that cost me less than £100 & it’s in my cellar where no one but me and the electric meter reader will see it.
Lots of great tips in this video, looking forward to the future videos about this awesome looking bench! Quick question for you: it looks like there's a knot in the top of your walnut leg vice piece. Are you worried about that being an issue?
The chop is still at its rough length so about 3-4” of it will be cut off. I suppose if it does check or crack I can stabilize it with some epoxy but I don’t think I will have to.

A few people have said that to me actually yet when I watch all the videos before uploading they are perfectly fine. I think it’s RU-vid or the various devices people watch the videos on. I haven’t been able to figure it out.
