In this video I start by flatting the workbench top, then move on to making bench dogs and the sliding deadman.

Surely in this day and age someone can invent a quicker easier system/tool to flatten bench tops 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ great job. Been watching all of the vids in the series

I litereally just watched Andy's video on the dogs. I like the continuity..... And your take/adaptations.......

I just saw his latest one as well. I really liked his plug cutter idea. Wish I had seen that a few months ago when I made these, as well as his dog centering / clamping. Both great improvements from his last round and my approach.

Dear Sir, excellent series on building a workbench. I cringed when I saw you using a MIG welder over your lovely wooden clamps. One way to protect things in this situation is to get a sheet of aluminium foil and lay it over. Your wood would then be safe from burns from splatter. Cheers.

Very true, but that clamp only cost a few bucks. I’m cool with some splatter burns on it.

Wish you could have gone through more detail on machining for the leg vise.

What species of wood did you use for this build

Beautiful bench, however, I think the “Dogs” were a bit overkill!

Hey how long take you to make this workbench?

Great video. I am looking to build my own bench and have been looking at several build videos. I think your is really informative. Do you have plans?

Yes, I have them on my website. There is a link to them in the description

If you had to guess, how many hours do you think this project has taken? Thanks again for the video

I didn’t track my hours on this, but if I had to guess, it would be in the neighborhood of 40-50 at this point. That’s just a guess though

Incredible bench! I'm building mine now. I didn't see in the video but did you go over all the edges of the finished bench with a 1/8" round over bit?
@EastOakWoodworking

I used a chamfer bit

Is there a reason you didn't put the tops through the planer to flatten them? What am I missing??
@EastOakWoodworking
@EastOakWoodworking 3 года назад
I did put them both through the planet. That was back toward the end of part 2, but that doesn’t make them flat with each other like you’d think. I flatten again here to make one large continuous flat plane. I really only took a little off though. Also, the outer two laminations were added after that point.

with both the dovetail track and the dog holes on the deadman, how often do you actually use the dovetail clamps?
@EastOakWoodworking
@EastOakWoodworking 3 года назад
More than the dog holes actually. I’ve found that clamping a piece in place works better for me than just resting it on a dog. Sometimes I’ll also do both.

@@EastOakWoodworking How does it compare to using a holdfast? I’m designing a bench and that’s how I expect to support the piece with the deadman.

Do you like the Irwin clamps? Did you get a deal on them?
@EastOakWoodworking
@EastOakWoodworking 3 года назад
They’re ok. I definitely prefer the Jet clamps, but they sell the Irwin at the local Menards, so it has been easy to just “go get a couple” a few times.
