It's been a 6 month roller coaster of cardiac op surgery recovery home based in this open heart surgery story time health motivation video. Heart rhythm issues led to closer looks at keto for heart patients in my cardiac patient diet menu. Using a CGM helped design a heart patient diet plan with keto cheat meals. Mitral valve replacement stories like this describe recovering from open heart surgery as a cardiac patient. As part of open heart surgery recovery, I cover heart health exercises to help the pig valve installation heal necessary due to mitral valve disease from early in life. I also had to analyze keto electrolytes heart based looking for effects on heart health along the heart surgery recovery timeline. During this mitral valve replacement recovery time, I've also had to think about future happiness in the time I have left, which meant test driving a Ferrari 458 italia and retirement planning at age 50, since my lifespan will be limited. Exciting times for sure!

This is the 6 month check-in post open heart valve replacement surgery. Far from smooth, but this is where I am!

Hi. It's been 6 months since I've had open heart surgery 3 bypasses and an aortic valve replacement. I was wondering how are you doing now since it's been about a year since you had that done?

@@badgrfan Howdy, just hit the 1 yr mark a couple weeks ago. The rhythm is overall pretty good all things considered. might have a little afib some mornings when i wake up, pre atrial contractions are still noticeable, but no more tachycardia since last august or so. i had another stem cell cardiac treatment in Dec, the heart efficiency is feeling better, we'll do another echo in september to see how the ejection fraction is coming along. still swimming every morning and lifting later in the day, no booze, no caffeine, min stress, have lost over 15 lb just since Jan 1. that was the last surgery i get, so every decision i make has an effect on the length and quality of life i get, so making the most of it. 3rd book about positive perspective has been out for a year now, working on a new book/platform, making every day matter. I had a mechanical valve and ascending aorta replaced , I am now 7 months post op and I have had very similar problems to you , these are a few things that I realised triggered me , eating sugary things , getting stressed , lifting items ( even reasonably light ) sleeping on my side is a major trigger . I have got much better over the last month and I think the key with heart surgery is there is massive trauma to the heart and mentally , time is a major factor , we all heal differently so don’t rush. From the Uk I wish you all the best and any other heart patients too.

sugar, agreed, caffeine, stress, lack of sleep, i didn't notice the lifting, but exertion, like washing a car when i shouldn't have, but sleeping on the side...is this the left side or either side? i did notice during rhythm problems that i couldn't sleep on my left side. it didn't seem like it affect the rhythm to me, but if the left side was down, the heart was closer to the bed, and it seemed to amplify the bad beat which resonated in my head and made it harder to sleep. I was watching this and you're story about the strange rhythm at 4:30 after having had covid is almost exactly what happened to me. No prior heart issues, treatments etc, but like clockwork at 3am at night I'd wake up my heart rate would climb to about 100, it would hover there, I'd get up walk around for a few min, get back into bed and then it would stabilize back down to 65. It would be intermittent but always the exact same time. Similar occurrence with moderate exertion, would drastically lower the resting heart rate from maybe 86 to 70 or lower.

I am 13 days out of the modified Bentall procedure with the konect bovine tissue valve. Was in great shape when I went in with minimal damage and classified as Stage C: A Symptomatic. I am 60 years old and made the decision to have surgery one year after the diagnosis of severe aorta valve stenosis. Took me that long to get my nerve up. I was working, and I felt great, what the heck? Third opinion I said let's do it because I didn't want the recovery to be ridiculously long and/or my heart to be irreversibly damaged by my own hand because of my cowardness. The first week out of general anesthesia is NO JOKE and it does hurt. I've been home for three days and begin warfarin tomorrow evening for three months. Feeling very good. Surgery is not the problem it is the solution. 02/28/24

@NoLimitsNoRegrets
@NoLimitsNoRegrets Год назад
that rhythm is a tricky deal. if it's consistently at 120, that sound like the atrial flutter i had, but obviously listen to the real doctors, not me. the good thing is if it is aflutter, an ablation is often an easy fix for it. your body goes through hell during the surgery, so you have to let things settle a bit, but you definitely don't want to have that heart beating so fast for very long or it fatigues the heart. you're young so once it gets to normal, it should recover quicker. take care!

I think the 120 bpm started Saturday as prior to that it was 100-110 with only slight peaks of 120. The cut in my pericardium was small enough they didn't need to reconstruct. How long did it take for you to start being able to lift things, I really want to get back to business, this recovery time really has been depressing.
@NoLimitsNoRegrets
@NoLimitsNoRegrets Год назад
@@nimbusmobiledetailing312 if your resting heart rate is over 100 talk to the doc. there are meds to bring it down. the issue with tachycardia (over 100 at rest) is it prevents your heart from healing and will delay your recovery. when i wasn't in tachycardia during recovery the meds had me down to 30's resting which is too low, but the point is you really want it low so the heart can heal. as far as workouts, i started with yoga as it's less intense, stretches the tight chest, calms the mind, but starts to get the muscles working. the two bouts with tachycardia delayed everything for me, but the best thing i can tell you is listen to your body. i would start easy with yoga, but let your heart be normal (60 bpm rest, good rhythm) for a month or so before you even think of lifting. as always, talk to the doc too, but walking, then yoga are good starts. lifting can disrupt the rhythm and you really want that in good shape first.

thanks, and great to hear these are serving as a good resource for others. as far as long term plans, there have been a lot of developments and update videos since this one, and it's very clear there's no point in saving for 20 years. the risk i've seen in similar cases is false hope leads to failure to enjoy the time left, and i'm trying to be very logical and make decisions based on facts and most likely outcome. each patient has a very personal journey and how we handle it.

Great video, I'm 43 yo and five weeks post valve replacement and recovery is painfully slow. I'm curious why you decided against a metal valve replacement? Granted I will be on blood thinners the rest of my life, but I figured I rather be one and done with this surgery.
@NoLimitsNoRegrets
@NoLimitsNoRegrets 7 месяцев назад
Thanks, and yes, it definitely takes time, but once you get any rhythm issues out of the way, off all meds, you'll be able to make steady progress to a better you. the first time (age 34), i wanted to live as free as possible, no blood thinners (daily meds, periodic blood test check, no tattoos, no drinking, higher risk of bleed out in wreck or working with sharp metal like i did). i also thought there may be something newer/better at my next replacement. Then at 48 a couple years ago, i did more research, and wondered if the mechanical was 1 and done, why did so many ppl get hybrid, and it came down to stroke risk. hybrid valve carries stroke risk, but much bigger with mechanical, and if your blood thinner/chemistry changes, even moreso. for a hybrid valve, if you have a big base ring like i did, they can possible replace it through the femoral next round, i.e. inserting a new valve and pushing aside the old one. however, my last valve failed by not opening all the way (stenosis) vs. leaking (regurgitation). i have a history, 10 day, 3, 6, 12, 18, and upcoming 24 month checkin videos too in the description if you want a little more background, but be patient, be healthy, and you'll get there!

@NoLimitsNoRegrets Год назад
it's easy to fall into that trap. the first thing is perspective. I know all this is easier said than done, but focus on 2 things. 1. be happy you're alive. the rest is details. 2. you have to really WANT to get as healthy as you can. nobody can want it for you, only you. beyond that, it's the basics. exercising is important for physical and mental health. diet is absolutely critical (you can see my wolf/keto diet video if looking for ideas), use a calorie counting app, get rid of booze sugar, bread/pasta if you can, eat earlier in the day, and get good sleep. biggest thing with sleep is turning off the brain, stress management. boil your life down to basics, what's important, and focus there. Good luck!

3 months post surgery, not surprised. soooo many variables with each person, but after my first at age 34, i wasn't even as good as pre-surgery until 4-6 months and it was a year before i was really 'good'. speaking and singing are really hard. it's not strenuous activity, but you're pushing air out to make sounds, which makes it harder to breathe.
