Rough Turn a Classic Urn

Follow along as I rough turn a typical urn shaped vessel in the wood lathe. When it comes to cremation urns, I stick with a form people have come to recognize with a stable base and an opening you can easily access.
Plain wood makes a great pallet for decorating and wonderfully grained wood and burl can stand alone.I share a hollowing tool of my own design and would be happy to answer all questions about it.
Included at the end is some useful information for those turning urns. If you feel you have information to share, please do so in the comments. Watch for part 2: Finish Turn a Classic Urn in the wood lather.
My favorite tools:
Robust American beauty Lathe.
Thompson Lathe tools
Vicmarc Chucks

Thank you Vicki! I will try to keep up with the videos but have a new house under construction that will cut in to my shop time once the weather gets better. Might have to sneak in a couple construction videos.

Great stuff Hayes. I like your hollowing rig, it's even simpler (better) than mine.

Thank you for the simple way to get the correct volume I asked someone else and he told me volume but not how to get there.

If you check the volumes on ones you make keep some rough dimension records, you can get dialed in . Thanks for taking the time and subscribing, its an inspiration.

I make them out of aluminum pipe in my metal lathe and may make a video next time I make a batch. Thanks for stopping by, much appreciated.

Why is it so shiny when drilling it out? Looks like a glossy finish!

Although it was cut over a year ago, the wood is still very wet so you are seeing the water that leaves aided by the spinning. Thanks for viewing!
