Yup, whoever is gonna try this, don’t underestimate the rising your knee part, if you’re just going to try and throw your leg in the air you’re not gonna have a good time.
Precisely which part of my foot/leg would I want to focus on being my point of impact? I know that if you make contact the wrong way you can really mess yourself up good.
@@jordanlowe7097 depends which style you want. Muay thai will use the shin. Karate and wtf tkd will use the instep. Itf tkd uses the ball of the foot for a smaller contact area. To the guy above: there are two ways of creating this kick, both with their advantages and drawbacks. The first is whats shown here which is the knee coming in a straight line forwards and then the hip rotating to snap the kick. This is the karate and wtf tkd method. Its very fast but not very powerful. The second is to imagine you are getting on a bike. The knee makes a wide arc using the hip the whole time and the foot travels much further creating more power. This is how itf tkd and muay thai do the kick. Though ofc these two have vastly different contact points.
@@N3onDr1v3 in this case I'd likely prefer the Muay Thai style of roundhouse. I've personally always had a habit of doing the wide hip swing as opposed to lifting the knee and snapping the hips as you mentioned. Thanks for taking the time to get back to me.
@@jordanlowe7097 its not great quality, and its not all that good actually as performed. Not to mention it was the first one i found! But, this is what an itf kick looks like ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tU7kqhU5BIY.html
Be careful with your grounded leg while doing this, you have to get the rotation of it right for it to be a truly good kick, this guy does it very well.
About the grounded leg - ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS rotate it enough. After doing martial arts for 7 years, I managed to fail at this at a competition. The aftermath? A torn kneecap ligament from the kneecap dislocating. That ligament ain't coming back. Couldn't walk properly for weeks, and couldn't put any more stress than walking on it for months. All for a rookie mistake.
As a former mma instructor, we only taught kicks like this for combinations. Flowing the right hand into a round house usually. Otherwise we stepped off centre line, brought knee up middle, turning the hip with the arm swinging out front and side instead of down
practice... the pivot step gives you a lot of power... if you step forward with your front foot then throw the kick followed through by your pivot and the rotation of you body and you try to slice that bag with your kick... that's a lot of power... but don't do that if your shins not solid... cuz you'd hurt yourself. I'm actually weirded out by this step by step kick process cuz kicking is one fluid motion it doesn't go that way. but this works if you are teaching a begginer once you throw enough kicks it would kick in to your body that it's one fluid motion.
there are no shortcuts you have to practice it practice the form use a good form after you have perfected the form, then try to use it with speed but still practice is the answer
I'm 11 and i looked up some basic kicking/mma tutorials since punching is my strong suit and i wanna say thank you this helped a lot and i can feel the power
I've done no other kicks than round houses for a year now... conditioned my shins so I kick a Heavey bag with no guards and my shins are rock solid now. If u turn ur hips and lean into the kick whole swinging ur kick side arm u don't even need that much speed to apply surprisingly Heavey force.
I have been shown to step with the lead leg off the center line so when you throw the kick you are kicking through the object and you get more rotation.
That's pretty much a Muay Thai round kick but with a Snap Through. JKD has a very similar kick but instead the rear leg (Left) would go off center and then Kick.
Thanks Trevor, I've been inspired to start kicking and these stuff because of you and Nat. Although I'm just practicing at home, thanks for the tutorial!
I'm your fan ( from Uzbekistan). And started to learn your 540(mikey) kick 1month ago. And now it paid off I can't believe my eyes but I can do it now because of you bro. Thanks for everything. Keep doing this kind of great videos I do like it👍👍
imo it's more power if u do step 2 before step 1 as long as u keep practicing it... it's like this, u need to lift your leg(from the side) so your knee is almost vertical to your body, and then try to do step 1(to change side) and throw the kick. it takes time and balance to really perfect it though :)
Every thing looked beautiful, except for the snap at the end. I prefer to use my hips to drive my shin further into the bag. I know I did it right, when my leg bounces off the heavy bag and back into place.
Just started MMA with my sensei cousin and his partners and I learned this move today. Unfortunately I was struggling trying to do it and this video is so helpful for practice and reference. Thanks a bunch!! Sparring day is gonna be alooooot different😂💯
Swing your arm out to the side but not too much, instead of down and knee up the middle not out to the side. Less telegraphing and more protection for overhands. Shoulder also shouldn’t telegraph like that
That's more spesific to muay thai tbh but yeah I guess theres always slight room for improvement But with regular kickboxing like this I think its acceptable at least
@@Tr1s thing is the hip rotation is too early in the step by step. It needs to be in the last step for this style of kick, the karate/wtf tkd style. The hip rotation is what gives the kick the last bit of speed accelerating the foot to the target. In itf tkd and muay thai the hip is used throughout the motion for more power. The difference is like lifting your leg to climb a ladder or lifting your leg to get on a bike. Try it out and you'll see what i mean.
That’s interesting I see different roundhouse kicks from the same style. Like I done seen people twist they helps while the leg is already in the air as opposed to twisting your hips first. Now that I typed that and thought about it. That’s a tell that your finna kick. You should just lift your leg to set up for the kick then twist yo hips to add speed and power. the kick will start slow but the opponent still will have a hard time reacting because your adding speed as your moving. If you chamber up hips first yo kicking at max speed already.
