Route 66 Oklahoma - every town along the way - 46 of them!

The fourth state in the odyssey of Route 66 is Oklahoma and it's one of the longest at 375 miles. The uniqueness of the old road definitely started to come out. There were still a lot of towns to check out (46) but, as you'll see, most of these towns have some sort of Route 66 connections left. From Quapaw to Texola, Oklahoma was a lot of fun!

My husband and I lived in Clinton in 1983 during the oil boom. I was 20 He was 21. He worked for Parker Drilling and worked on rig 114. I’m telling you as young kids we were rolling in the dough back then. We drove a diesel truck because you.u could fuel up on site and the saving in fuel prices made our truck payment. We spent hard and partied hard and fell hard when the boom crashed. There were thousands of kids just like us out there in the middle of that God forsaken country where it was hotter than hot and colder than cold and no trees to be found for miles but life was good. What a memory this trip of Route 66 brought back. Thanks for the ride along 😊

That's hilarious. You stayed in a room I lived in for a year at the desert hills inn in Tulsa before moving to the apartments directly behind it which were at one point part of the motel. The apartments were deluxe one bedroom efficiencies converted into apartments. I used to love it there before moving to Oklahoma City.

I saw that old gas station turned into a cookie store. I sure hope you stopped in there. That would have definitely been a missed opportunity! As I always say, never pass up a cookie opportunity! 🍪 Hydro, OK - you know a town is small when someone parks their truck in the middle of the road to pick something up at the True Value Hardware store. lol That one ghostly road in Hext, OK looks straight out of a scene in "Big Fish" That was a good movie. It almost looks like you filmed in the Sepia design, it would have been super cool to film that road when there is fog on both sides of the road. And for an added ghoulish touch printshop the swamp monster in one of the shots.

You missed a real thrill when you bypassed the old (really old) section of rt 66 out of Miami. You have to go past the county fairgrounds and that section of road is really rough even for a gravel road.That section comes out somewhere around Afton where there is a marker designating the old vs the new.
@TravelwithaWiseguy
@TravelwithaWiseguy 8 месяцев назад
I actually did another video that featured that section of old 66. Pretty cool!
@larryhutchens7593
@larryhutchens7593 8 месяцев назад
I live in Oklahoma just north of Tulsa. I searched out that section once when coming back from Springfield. You can still see the concrete edges of the road. There is a local guy on PBS who does historic articles on Oklahoma & he covered how they did the original road. The state didn't have the funds to make shoulders for the road so they installed curbs instead. Probably caused a lot of wrecks considering how those old bias ply tires handled. There are actually 2 routes that 66 took through Tulsa. The old one followed Admiral and the newer one went across 11th street. Thanks for the videos. I have traveled rt 66 across Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. Going to try for all the way to California. @@TravelwithaWiseguy

The town Verdigris is pronounced with a silent "s." The town is named after the local river of the same name. This name was given by French traders in the region in the late 1700s. The original French spelling was "Vert-de-gris" which means "from gray to green," which was the traders' description of the unique colors of the river. (Yeah, I am a French professor... one of the few born in Oklahoma!) Despite what you might think from this name, the Verdigris is a very clean river. When I was a kid (in Tulsa) our family used to go up there for swimming, fishing and picnics. Even in the hottest part of the summer the water always seemed ice cold.

Just blowing though towns with no history narrative and missing most of each town. Wiseguy needs to up his game, he could learn a lot watching Joe n Nics travel videos.
@TravelwithaWiseguy
@TravelwithaWiseguy 8 часов назад
LOL - Joe and Nic are great in my opinion. FYI I do lots of videos like that. This one was to show every town along the Route for at least a few seconds - which is often how people travel down Route 66. I've done many videos about Route 66 talking about the history of towns in Oklahoma.
