Yeah. The video content was good, but he has definitely refined his style. Between that and youtube removing some of his video links, he could probably justify reshooting this one. Although 3.5M views ain't bad either.

If you're a beginner like me, this guy is by far the best to learn from. There are lots of good woodworkers on RU-vid, but no one focuses on beginners like Ramsey. I'm just finishing his Weekend Woodworker course. Eight weeks ago I had never in my life cut a piece of wood with a power tool. Now I'm making furniture that we're actually using..... 100% thanks to Steve Ramsey.

Thank you for giving me my first router lesson. I've used a small router before, but have been afraid of the bigger one I bought at an auction. I didn't even know how to mount it to the table till you showed how. I just want to say thank you for your beginner router lesson. I hope you have a lot more beginner lessons on the router and on other tools also. One more thing, the views on this lesson at this time is 1,784,898. That just shows that people really do want to learn the basics. There is definitely an audience for this sort of thing.

I just found your channel and I wanted to say thank you! I have wanted a router and a table saw forever and I finally got them for Mother’s Day this year. My husband wanted me to get the router/table combo but the router was fixed and I needed it to be able to cut circles along with everything else. This video helped me so much in determining what kind of router I needed and also gave me a good beginners understanding of the exact things I wanted to do with it! Now I just need to open the box and get started. I will be watching all your videos. You explain things so well!,,

Wow! I have been working wood for many years and proudly PROCLAIMED I didn't own a "router" ...making adirondack chairs and selling them from my front lawn, when my neighbor, a pretty housewife came over and inspected my work...she was PARTICULAR....and she told me I needed to do this/that/the other....including "smoothing the edges"....thanks brother....this is a fine video and now I am off to Lowes to get one. You have almost 4 million views....thanks for helping me...you're a wonderful teacher. Love your enthusiasm. I work with wood because I think its mental "yoga"....and should be fun. Thank you Steve Ramsey! I'd just bought myself a "Black & Decker" router from Argos (in the UK). Never used one before. I found your video on U-Tube and found it very, very helpful indeed. I can now set the machine up correctly, and run it the correct way when cutting. I've only used it once so far, to round off the edge of a piece of scrap wood. It worked great! I just couldn't have done it without your clear instructions. I'll look at your other instructional videos for more guidance. I'm only a DIY er so it's a learning curve for me. I do however fancy having a go at building a guide bench. We'll see! many thanks again Steve. Phil Edwards. Connah's Quay, North Wales. UK.

Hey Steve, love your videos. One question: I just set up a router table with a plunge router and can't for the life of me figure out how to get the router bit high enough through the hole in order to have it route my wood. I've pushed the mounted router up as far as it will go, but the metal rolling part is the only thing that's visible and there's no more space to push up and lock the router. Is it possible to rise the bit higher in the collet? I'm worried it will come out. Isn't it supposed to be sitting down inside the collet all the way (minus the 1/8th so it doesn't bottom out)? How do I get that thing high enough?? Thanks!!!!
@bootlegapples
@bootlegapples 8 лет назад
+Serena Appiah Did you try a google search with your router model for table mounting instructions?I cannot speaker for your case but in mine I had a Hitachi M12V attached to a thin rectangular mounting plate which rested/was mounted flush with the table surface.With that arrangement the router sat only 1/4 in below the table surface,I had plenty of range/travel with the bit height.There was a long rotary knob that came with the router that allowed me to adjust height of the bit from beneath.Good luck..
@ThriftDiving
@ThriftDiving 8 лет назад
+bootlegapples Thanks for the reply! Yep--tried to Google and didn't really find anything. Mine didn't come with a rotary knob. I think that's what I need to find. Otherwise, there's not much I can do with it! Grrrrrr....

Wow! No fuss, no muss! Great video! I've never used a router and got one from a friend who wasn't using it anymore. I started making clocks and I think this will help with that, aside from my "dremel" tool. Thanks!

I always seem to come back to your videos, when I am looking for information, since I am a new woodworker. Easy to understand and not alot of fluff. You have come a long way on your videos, but always fun.

Ahhh just the video I was looking for. Brand new to woodworking. Trimming out windows and decided I’d use a router for the window sill. This is very helpful.
