Locksmith using cordless routers to cut in strike plates on wooden door frames. The templates were custom cut acrylic made by me on a laser cutter. First router is a plunge router with a 1/4" bit. We used 3 steps to make the 1" deep hole for the bolt. I usually have a vacuum connected and you don't get all that dust. This day was only 2 doors so we didn't bother with vacuum. Second router is set up with a ball bearing door hinge bit for cutting in face plate. Corner chisel to square corners.
The lock we are installing were the SAFEBOLT™ lockdown locks, does not have a standard bolt hole.
This particular door has been used and abused. Extra strike holes from previous installs. Example the handing of door has changed, in-swing/out-swings have changed, even door slabs not original. I am always trying news ways of doing installs, I liked this technique but took some tweaks to dial it in. I had installed 300 of these locks and about a 4th of them were wood frames. Two of us sharing parts of the installs. One guy would go 1st pre-drilling lock mounting holes. Another come behind to install lock and mark frame for strike/hole. 1st guy come back and install the strike. If one of us got ahead of the other we would just do clean up to keep busy. The cart you see in the back ground was modified that weekend adding a rack for holding tools like the drill motors. Each drill motor had it own drill bit/hole saw or whatever never having to rechuck anything. That worked a lot better.
