In this video I show how I sharpen a router plane blade, and I show a couple of techniques I will typically use on a regular basis.

i sometimes advance my depth by the amount of the backlash (or less) by advancing the depth adjuster without loosening the collar until (or before) it won't advance further, then loosening the collar and letting the cutter "fall" and re-tightening the collar. but the amount of the backlash depends on your depth adjuster and cutter so it might not make sense for everyone.

I think it all depends what species of wood is being used, and how the grain is behaving. I do vary from what I showed, but that shown, is very common for myself. I think it can also be preference as well. Like you say, what I showed may not be for all, and vice versa. Thank for watching, I appreciate your time 👍

Is the pointed cutter easier to use, with the cutting edge being on an angle ?

@@davidmellor-pv4kl to be honest I wouldn't know. I do own one but never used it, never had the need really. I will try and remember to dig it out and give it a go, at the next opportunity.

@@DW_woodworks any thoughts on the Veritas 2 piece cutters? Just about to order one as the bits that came with my router are not in the best condition.

@@davidmellor-pv4klit could be a good buy, beca there interchangeable, probably easier to sharpen too, but I haven't dealt with one so I couldn't be 💯

@davidmellor-pv4kl if you're using those with an old stanley 70 or similar know/remember you have to unscrew/remove the depth adjuster and screw it back on upside down because the "post" part is longer on the veritas cutter
