Finally getting around to making a new router table. Trying to pick the best components available for my needs. Started with the Router and a cast iron top. Amazon prime offered free 2 day air delivery of the top if I signed up for prime so I purchased it there to avoid having it bounce across the country in a UPS truck
Here is the top I purchased amzn.to/2Z86krT
Here is the router I purchased amzn.to/31OPqA3 but Home Depot has a better price so search for the best price first
These are the T bolts I purchased amzn.to/2KGfFTS
This is the extrusion I purchased amzn.to/2N91AQp
These are affiliate links that provide a small commission to help suppotr my channel without raising prices.

@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
Thanks. Between my birthday gift cards and selling $800.00 dollars worth of old stuff on craigslist this was paid for in advance. Never thought that I would spend this much money on a router table but I outgrew the old one. Thanks for watching.

For a while they destroyed many shipments and they have been better lately. Could have been the several thousand dollars worth of damaged shipment insurance claims they had to pay companies I purchased the items from. Thanks for watching.

That looks like a fantastic set-up, that Milwaukee puts my Bosch 1617 kit I bought the shame in power and build quality. The way home Depot ship that router doesn't surprise me. I ordered a Makita Palm router from home Depot. They didn't pack that in another box either, so it was pretty much open when it was on my front steps. Everything was in there, but it just goes to show you they couldn't even be bothered getting a piece of packing tape to shut the lid closed.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
I just about killed my Bosch 1617 flattening slabs and decided it's time to upgrade. This router is very quiet and smooth but weighs a lot. I have not had good luck with shipping companies lately. All packages somehow are damaged in transit. As you say they should have at least wrapped it with tape. Thamks for watching.

I love my Bench Dog cast iron router table top. I have a big power feeder mounted to it. For what i do most of the time i require a power feeder.

I didn't like the fence slots in that one or the custom size router plate pocket. Glad it fits your needs. I am looking at the infinity feeder. Thanks for watching.

Happy belated birthday. That is one beefy router and table. Won't be easy to bog that down! The speed control will be good for your slab flattening bits - lot of the larger bits have speed limits I'm sure lots of people ignore with single-speed routers. Looking forward to the finished unit - I'm sure it will be pro-grade like the rest of your projects.
@donvanco3078

Oh - and I've had numerous deliveries from Home Depot just like yours, with no outer packaging at all. Including a very expensive meat slicer. I've stopped getting home delivery and use ship-to-store when I can - that way if it's trashed in shipping I just leave it there and tell them to get me another. It helps that I live 3 minutes from the nearest Home Depot :)
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
I have been killing my Bosch 1617 on slabs and this router will definitely handle them. Have to make a new slider because this on has a much larger base. I am going nuts trying to figure out how to make an arduino control the fence movement with a tablet and may just wind up with pushbuttons to start out. It will be fun to finally have a decent router table. My nearest Home depot is over a half hour away so with smaller items I take a chance. FedEx and UPS have been terrible lately. Thanks for watching.

Great you're able to sell your old tools. You deserve the best tools that match your amazing skills. Really amazing that you can get free shipping on a table top that heavy! You will love Amazon Prime. I have been ordering from Amazon since 1998 when they were still mostly books. Did you ever get your final bookcases from Costco?
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
Thanks. It's amazing how fast good old tools sell. I am digging out more now to clean out stuff that I haven't used in years to buy a couple more new tools. Amazon wanted $169.00 for 2 day shipping and I signed up for a month of prime that covered the 2 day shipping from Oregon to NY so in the end it will be $12.99 but is worth it because I no longer trust UPS ground. The last cabinet arrived with the box beat up as bad as the rest but luckily it was only bent on the back so I kept it. Took 9 cabinets to get 3 and UPS lost a lot of money on all the damage and shipping costs. I filed a complaint and they wanted me to do all the work for them supplying information. I told them don't waste my time on your failure to be able to properly handle packages customers entrust to you. Contact my driver she has lived through the nightmare with me. Thanks for watching.

I nearly missed this one, I just saw part 3 so I had to come find the other 2, it looks like it is going to be really nice, and expensive, thanks for sharing it with us. What does using the paste wax on the top do, keep it from rusting?
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 4 года назад
Thanks. It definitely is getting expensive but I think will be worth it. The paste wax helps protect it some from rust and makes it slippery without affecting the wood. There are better options available now but they also cost a lot more so I just keep using it. The old formula worked better and lasted longer. Thanks for watching.

I am a finish carpenter, my only experience with router are trim router. My intention is a Rockler Cast table, Incra lift and fence and I was given a DeWalt router as a present. This is for an upcoming project. I would appreciate your input, it seems like you are very experience in this area. My intention is to buy once and that's it. Also what do you recommend to keep the table from rusting I live in a high moister area
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
Cast iron is hard to keep rust free in a high moisture area. I use Johnson's paste wax and keep a dehumidifier running in my shop to keep my tools rust free. Get the shop moisture under control or cast iron will be very tough to control. I have seen phenolic tops used in moist areas also.Rockler tops have an odd size opening so be sure the lift you planon using will fit. I love my Jessem Lift. Thanks for watching.

Harvey manufacturing offers a similar table, but has the slots in it. I've heard complaints concerning the out-of-level top on the SawStop.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 2 года назад
My Sawstop top was fairly good with only the back corner dropping off some. None of these tops are totally flat and sawstop is the only one that gives a flatness spec. These tops are ground before fully curing so it's going to be hit or miss on getting a perfectly flat one.They also are very heavy and get shipping damage so be sure to check the company policy about flatness. Thanks for watching.

@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 5 месяцев назад
They do that quite often. I guess it saves them money on shipping and boxes. I have seen where boxes like this with valuable tools have been cut open with the tool removed. People then receive a box full of rocks instead. A good reason to buy at a store. Thanks for watching.
@mpe777
@mpe777 5 месяцев назад
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 - I agree. I was a victim of receiving an empty packed box but the label said 3 lbs which means they pulled the item out of the box then sealed it. It’s important to note that Home Depot like Lowe’s sells through 3rd party. That’s how I learned through my experience. So now I place order online and pickup in store or go buy directly at store. Just depends on how many available.

Last summer I ordered a big rake from Titan for my tractor. UPS girl hands me the torn up empty box and says I think you should reject this because it's supposed to be over 120 pounds. The only thing in the box was the assembly manual. Luckily titan shipped another right out.

Just came across this. Great build. Thinking of building version 4.0 (and hopefully last version) of my router table. That makes about once every 10 years. Where did you get the rod to go with the linear bearings? Are they straight? Would be great to get long ones to upgrade my router sled as well, but haven't found any over a couple feet long.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 2 года назад
You buy them as a set on ebay. The rods come up to 2 meters long or about 80 inches if you search. You may have to go to 25 or 30 mm so they stay straight. I also got square blocks for my cnc router on amazon that were 1.5 meters. Thanks for watching.

@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
The grinding looks nice and there was no sign of damage to the box so it must have moved as you say. Luckily it's the back corners that don't see much use. Was hoping it would have been flatter like they promised for the price I paid. The new Johnson's paste wax is not as good as the original formula but it still works. Thanks for watching.

Can't wait to see the rest of this project. It's disgraceful that you can't buy something and have it delivered in good condition. Fedex, UPS, USPS should all be ashamed of themselves.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
UPS has destroyed well over $1,000.00 of items they delivered to me in the past 3 months. Costco had to ship 9 file cabinets in order for me to get 3 that weren't totally destroyed. They also destroyed a Weber 26 inch grill. Luckily the sellers take care of the claims and keep shipping replacements. FedEx is not much better. USPS is the best shipping service around here. This will be a fun build. Not real happy about Sawstop not meeting their specs on the top but just being picky. Thanks for watching.

I didn't know that Saw Stop made a router table. Going to have to check them out. Why did you choose 3" tubing over an extrusion that has T-slots already in it?
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
It's a nice table but not quite as flat as they advertise. I had that tubing for a while and it's straight within. 002 so that is why. There's a wide Woodpecker tool multiple split t track going on the face for accessories. The center is for chips on one side and eventually electronics on the other Thanks for watching.

do you think that when you hang the router and lift it will pull the top down to level?

Did you check the flatness after you mounted the top to your table? Would some fine shims work to make it flatter?

I wouldn't try to move it. Just a little taper in that one back corner that doesn't really get used. Thanks for watching.

I'm not here to cause trouble, but your straight edge looks like a piece of metal and not a calibrated instrument. How sure are you about the straightness of your straight edge? If you swap ends and recheck the gaps do you get the same results? Thanks for the video because I'm in the market for a router table and didn't know SawStop made one.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
It's a true straight edge within .002 that l purchased for setting up machines. All my otherstraight edges rocked the same. The 2 back corners drop off about .015. The center is the high spot in the back and front. .015 is good from what I've read and the front half is within .005. A CMM is the only accurate to see if some of it is from twist. Some of that can be from UPS shipping a almost 100 pound box. I am very happy with it but have sent the video to Sawstop for them to see how it didn't meet the specs they sent me. I would definitely buy it again. .015 is less then the thickness of 4 hairs over 32 inches. Thanksfor watching.

I was wondering if you considered the Grizzly T10222 router extension table for your table saw? Or if you did look at it and decided your choices looked better for specific reasons? Could you advise?
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
No. It doesn't take a lift or have decent inserts. The router table my saw came with is useless and that doesn't look much better. I don't think a router table on a saw is the best choice if you have room. I Also have quit buying grizzly tools because the last couple were not right. Thanks for watching.

Are you including the 1023 table saw? Because I was just about to pull the trigger. :-(
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
That one has been good. Still don't have the sawdust under control but it's accurate and powerful. Just go through it good when it arrives because I have seen comments about castings that were machined off and they had to go back for repairs. It's the planer and dust cyclone that I wouldn't buy again.
