One of my viewers asked about zoom routing on the Tascam Model 12 - Unfortunately, Zoom disappoints on this front, but with the help of Rogue Amoeba's Loopback Software - we still get it done!

You have no idea how long I've been trying to do this exact thing. You are a lifesaver, thank you!

* Repeating this comment as I can’t see the first one I posted. Great video Glenn - very clear and well laid out - thanks bro. Could you point me to the previous video you mentioned in this one? I’ve just got my Model 12 and want to run voice and pre-recorded music tracks through the desk to zoom - seems your previous video would cover this in someway? Do you know if it’s possible to use the desk internal recorder to record my voice, the music and also those I’m speaking with on zoom, on separate tracks? Emmanuel I found online says this is not possible (to use the desk or record function while connected to a computer via USB). Still trying to work it out ... thanks in advance if you’re able to help. I’m sure many folks have this same question ...

So Sorry, Mo Latin! I'm just coming back to youtube! Sorry for the delay. here's a link to the video you were asking about, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7FHHyNLIVCQ.html Hopefully you've already gotten this sorted, but if not - YES! you can record to SD Card and also to your Daw Simultaneously. When the manual talks about not being able to do that - it is actually referring to when you have the M12 connected in Storage mode. Hope that helps!

Thanks for this. Very helpful. Have you used external effects in this setup? I have a stompbox connected connected via Aux 1 which is then sent to channels 9 and 10. This allows me to use the effects unit for all tracks, should I want to. One thing that came up in a Zoom session the other day, however, is that the person on the other end could hear both the dry and wet sounds, whereas on my end, I could control what I heard. In other words, turning down the fader on input 2, say, and turning up the fader on 9/10 would allow me to hear the wet (effected) sound only, which is great. But for the person on the other end, listening to me via zoom, they would still hear input 2 and 9/10. The only way to turn down input 2 is to use the gain, which then kills the sound altogether, since nothing is being sent to the stompbox or channels 9/10. Not sure if I'm explaining this correctly.

I'm so glad it was helpful! YES! I love running external effects that way! I actually made a video about that not too long ago: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DTzZCcr0kN4.html Yes, You explained clearly what the problem is! Are you on a Mac using Loopback or are you getting your channels into zoom by other means? if in Loopback, it sounds like perhaps channels 1/2 didn't get disconnected when you made your virtual device. Otherwise, if you've set your virtual device up to send ONLY channels 11/12 of the Model 12 into your virtual device, the people on the other end of your Zoom call should hear exactly what you have coming out of the mains on the Model 12! That would be my first suggestion, double check your routing to be certain that 1/2 were disconnected (select the "wires" and delete.) I hope that helps! Let me know if that's not it - perhaps we can keep troubleshooting! Thanks for watching!

@@GlennThomasTech Thanks for the quick and detailed response. I'm still getting both the dry and wet signal turning up in Zoom. Here is what the set up in Loopback is like: Sources: Model 12 (channels 11 and 12 going to Output channels 3 and 4. Pass-Thru channels 1 and to going to output channels 1&2. Under Monitors, I have connected the output channels 1&2 into channels 7/8. Basically what I see is that the sliders, while controlling the volume on my end, do not have any effect within Zoom itself. Even with the Mains turned down, I'm still getting a signal showing up on the Zoom audio settings panel.

Hmmm! something sounds off there for sure! If I'm understanding your routing correctly, the problem would be in that you are sending main outputs 11/12 to virtual channels 3/4... as far as I know, Zoom can't "see" those channels. Try swapping your mains (11/12) to go to Outputs 1/2... and move the passthrough from zoom to send to 3/4 - and then out to 7/8 on your M12 - Good luck!
