We had one of the last Rover 25's, 1.4 in beautiful metallic dark blue (Tahitti blue??) from new. Drove brilliantly. Looked excellent. Didn't squeek or rattle. Put petrol in it and drove it for 4yrs, until the car behind failed to stop as wife stopped at a roundabout, and was wrote off (2hrs after passing it's MoT). Few weeks later insurance made us an offer. He advised that if our loss had occurred a couple of weeks later, the pay out would have been half, as BMW were dumping Rover and prices just crashed. A sad ending to a very well engineered and built car. Can't wait. There's one 1/2 mile away that hasn't moved for 7 or 8yrs. Might be tempted to look at it after next weeks episode
I knew the instant I saw the 25 in the last video that you would take him home. Rather you tinker with him a little than going straight to the junkyard.
I had a Rover 25 for a few years. It was a great little car. Mine was the 1.2 or 1.4 (was a while ago) but was very sporty quick off the mark. I was going to replace the plastic throttle body with metal MG one but swapped in PX for a Grand Scenic back in 2005. I feel this will be a good episode.
loved the rovers always make me think of my late granddad he had a 1986 rover 800 Sterling in a sort of gold colour he loved that car, he washed it ever Saturday with me helping, had rear seat belts fitted so i could no longer sleep on the back seat under a quilt on our long road trips to wales, unfortunately in 1995 something expensive broke and the car was part ex for a Renault 19, I always wanted that MK 200 series when I was learning to drive through they looked nice but way to expensive to insurer ended up with a 1999 base spec 1l Corsa in flame pink (very faded red) now driving a fake MG, The MG5, can not wait to see this video hopefully this car didn't split in two, that was both a very sad end for that poor car and the funniest thing i have seen in ages
I have two of these one a rare Gti, the early ones were better build quality with Vi suspension carried over from the 200 on the range, the high reving K Series can be tuned easily with plug/play ECU to boost HP and upgraded stronger PG1 gearbox with a BRM LSD, some people chuck a VVC or Turbo lump in. Whatever you do it’ll be interesting to watch. Let’s hope it’s worth saving.
ive had 8 of these now since 2001, (and one 45) ive had a couple of head gaskets go , 1 stuck thermostat, 2 that failed on rust and one that caught fire on the A14 near ipswich. and my current one
Ah ok, so the 2nd car was the 25. You may or may not know Ben, that some of us have come over from the MGRover community. Project Nigel is the place to start and then it just explodes . Can't wait for the next video 🦖👌
I always quite fancied the previous gen BRM model that they did with the vvti motor. Think Rover have always been a bit ahead of the time with their designs. The lifted suspension 'streetwise' model was a bit of a flop and yet look now, many years later, the number of dacia sandero stepway cars that are sold. That car is almost a twin of the streetwise!
Ben another good video I did say mk1 aldi still didn't here my shout out ! 😂 I think a 2cv or reliant alfa spider or hillman minxs would be cool dolomite nickels good keep up the great work see you Friday 👍
I see another tasty classic coming out the woods. I can’t wait to see what this has installed this time cursing and more laughs. Let’s hope the wheels don’t come up like the last one. 😢😂😂😂😂 so keep up the good work Ben
Wife had a metallic purple one. Cylinder head was deemed to have cracked, though possibly head gasket? had a 2nd hand replacement engine fitted, 3 months later same issue, water in the engine and overheating..'K' series engine? We traded it in sharpish! Maybe we went to the wrong garage tho
Oh dear. Ben, you certainly should have left it. Remember the last one of those you had? And it hadn’t been sleeping in a forest. Still, at least the odds are that will run and give you some fun. But, isn’t it time to do the other cars you have lying around? It’s a shame about Brexit. I have a few piles of sh, ahem, I mean, patinated classics you’d like, but importing them from the EU would make them non viable.
... had one of these, absolute GARBAGE! 3 head gaskets in a year, run over a puddle and the petrol pump shuts off, horrid build quality, rusts everywhere, don't even waste your time mate.
Hi Ben , seeing this car made me think , maybe you could invite the bloke from Project Nigel down , what do you think ? , ive sent you an email . Anyway maybe its just a brain fart as ive not seen any other youtubers ever pop in on your vids . You know the bloke from Rochdale i do know his real name lol
