Hi, fellow 45 CVT owner here. I had similar doorcard issues and I found that if I peeled back the material from one edge that I could use decorators PVA to sort of bind the disintegrating foam to the material to make it a bit more sound and then use some carpet spray adhesive on the door card and material to make it a bit more taught on the door. It looks horrible for a while as the PVA seeps through the material but then dries clear. To avoid a sort of watermark effect I found a damp cloth rubbed over the areas of seepage meant that when dry it looked OK. It does change the properties of the material and it becomes a bit more coarse to the touch. Hope this helps. Enjoying the videos. Hope to see you at POL 23. Hello Martyn welcome, have you seen any of my previous videos as I think your new? There's plenty of them to keep you entertained :) That is an interesting idea, I may not try that at first because there's so much foam coming off I'm going to try and vaccum as much as possible out, rub off anymore foam that isn't sticking... and then shoot contact adhesive carefully into the door card and hopefully pat it down, its worse around the door handle so as long as its better I don;t mind. My theory is without that foam in the way, I'm sticking the alcantara material directly to the door card. No foam, no disintergration and less sag going forwards is my theory. Oh I will be at POL by hook or crook which is why I'm accelerating the work as it will be april like nothing! Pre-project drive 45's are really plush that is one keeper you have!
@Usually Fixing & Tinkering Thanks for the reply, yes I have seen some of the other videos, but I must watch them all in the correct order. I have been cherry picking up to now. I am by no means as handy with the spanners as you but I have had the car since 2012 and it was actually my wife's car but it has grown on me. Good luck with the rest of your recommissioning. Its great to have a CVT catching some attention.
@@mtamin1 I'd recommend you watch them in order as some only make sense in terms of continuity, a warning the sound quality in some will give you a free hearing examination 🤣Thanks buddy I appreciate the feedback and its lovely to be in touch with another CVT owner, partly the reason for me grabbing this car, its rare, not well-thought about (even from the rover community) and there's surprising little information on them, especially on youtube. So any jobs that I need to do on the gearbox going forward will get more detail in my videos because of this lack of info. Mine has the usual driveplate rattle but it goes away after a few minutes warming up... you can get an uprated version so I'm not ruling getting that done in the very long-term funds pending :)
She is a Cat C and so far I suspect the bonnet and front bumper have been replaced and that door because of that red and one door mirror! Ill be touching this stuff up later when I start detailing.
@@usuallyfixingtinkering Ahh I didn't know she was a Cat C stands a good chance she's had a new door. Ettys blown her head gasket now. Got somebody coming out to me on the 28th March to do it otherwise we won't be going POL this year 😣
@@goblin457 Yeah it's had a few things from the breakers to keeper her going... what I've found to be an unloved car actually had a great deal of love when it was probably worth very little! Oh no, is it the original do you know?
@@usuallyfixingtinkering I believe so the guy who I bought it off just got it from an auction didn't know if it'd been done so I just took a chance mostly off it's mot history and the condition overall she has got some battle scars down her passenger side it's on the ever growing list that never seems to get smaller 🤣
@@goblin457 I know the feeling! If you were close I'd be happy to help replace the HG since I've done my own! Sounds like a car that has had a life which is the most important thing :)
