I may have watched this clip 200 times and continue to get goosebumps every time I hear Tony’s voice say “sorrow” the first time. The reaction is amazing, the moment wonderfully appreciated by many in the Merlefest audience. A stunning musical moment preserved forever

This song gives me chills, so well done by two of the true legends of bluegrass. Bravo.

It blows my mind how staunchly traditional these guys are, yet they'll go out there experimentally... love this, thanx a bunch!

Super............Peter sure plays this tune well on his guitar as do Tony (guitar), Bryn (bass) and the mandolin player and the harmony is awesome. Thanks for sharing this beautiful song .

What a treat to hear Tony sing again, even in this limited amount. He had in his prime, IMHO, one of the best voices in all of bluegrass....along with; Larry Sparks, Ricky Scaggs, John Starling, Charlie Waller and Dudley Connell..............................................

EXCELLENT CALL on the vocalists you mentioned!!! Several of my all-time grass favs. There's one and only one Larry Sparks in this sector of the Universe :) I was unaware Country Gentlemen were still together..... at the Deale bluegrass festival around 2007 I was wandering around pretty far from the stage, heard the Charlie Waller's voice I'd known since early 70's and actually thought it was that Charlie..... his son is incredibly similar, almost eerie to hear :) like you could close yer eyes and believe it was 1968 or 1971 or whatever. Nevertheless the band was fantastic. Appreciate Charlie Junior dropping off great memories for us vintage folk :)

The mandolin player is Billy Bright. At the time he was married to the bass player, Bryn Bright. She now performs as Bryn Davies.

Oh, BTW, I have always loved the little bass run on the guitar that Peter plays--it would drive me nuts on the OITW recording (the original record) wondering: IS THAT PETER I'm HEARING??? I'm crazy about that little run! Hee hee Thanks for this again. It's great.

The mando is BillyBright (Bryn's husband at that time). He continues a good studio career in Nashville. He played on a chidden's album with my son. Great musician and nice guy!

Hands down the best version vocally and instrumentally I've heard. Seems this group was made to do this one. One has to wonder if these guys have a specific way of playing this or whether this just happened.. this kind of talent can keep playing it differently every time they get together.

My GOD, think this is the Merlefest I made it to--Walker Center, Noontime; Saturday, April 28, 2001. I WISH we could go BACK to that year! Wow, what an experience finding this up here! P.S.: Too bad about Mr. Rice. He has never really regained his singing voice.

Is it me or the Rowan's Dreadnought is smaller than Tony's one ?
@jeloeb

I don’t think Peter is playing a dreadnaught. I rarely see him with one - maybe sometimes way back in the day in a bluegrass band with no other guitarists.
