Thanks for video, great shot, I was able to see how fast I should be from the catch to leg push to arms. Never have figured that out until now. I’m doing this 10 times or more like he said.. one of best tutorials I’ve come across if not the best..

Dark Horse Rowing as an "arms & trunk only" rower ( paralized legs) I am pleased that Im able to follow with your stroke rate. On the topic of disabled rowers (-specifically for us who cant use our legs) would you be willing to put out a video(s?) Demonstrating some train8ng lessons without using your legs? What Ive done to keep the seat stationary is to cut 4 pieces of wood that fit the rail positioning my seat the correct distance from the foot straps. Then ive got C-clamps holding these wood pieces in place. This keeps my seat in 1 place and after positioning my legs in the straps i strap my legs together at the knees to keep them from flopping around & getting in the way of my arms. I thought Id share that incase youd be willing to try rowing like I do, and thus be in position to make a video for those of us who row without the use of our legs. I find it very helpful to follow along a video like yours. My hope is that I could once again get fit enough to row the distances I was able to, back in 2007 ( when my max. Was a million metres in 60 days as I trained for the Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships). A challenge: do you think youd be able to develop some videos for people like me? Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Thank you for making this comment today Guy! It is inspiring and gives me a feeling of hope and motivation! So good to hear positive things when the news cycle we are bombarded with is usually all such negative stuff every day! I too think Shane should make an entire series of "Row-a-long" videos they help so much! Good luck to you man and keep on rowing!

This is awesome. First go managed 1950m but found syncing the very low stroke rates challenging!
@DarkHorseRowing
@DarkHorseRowing 6 лет назад
Yes Jamie! The sticking to the low stroke rate is where you make your money. It's about learning to control your movement instead of just flying around on the machine.

Levi L. Pavia Thankyou, I think the cradle will be the best option to get the phone in a good position to follow the video. Wish I was one of the lucky people with a rowing machine at home.

Great, I´ve only trainend at 2 SPM intervalls ... I will try... it seems difficult to different in such a small rate.... // thx to let hear the breath rhythm!

I did this drill and it was awesome. I raised during the high stroke rate 193 pulses measured with a chest HR monitor and I finally felt the burn on my quads. Before that drill, I always kept 16 SPM and even though I had the same watts it didn't feel so exhausting. :P I will definitely do this again. Thanks a lot ! :D

I don't know if it's a drawback but the rowing machine in the gym I'm going it's a magnetic Kettler. Is that an issue? I use the resistance at 7 and my usual output is 200-230 watts.

Great video Shane. 2 quick questions please. Did you have any pacing in mind or is the goal purely stroke rate ? What's the reasoning for the low DF ? Thanks
@DarkHorseRowing
@DarkHorseRowing 6 лет назад
Great questions. No pacing, in fact I usually encourage the slowest pace possible while accomplishing the stroke rate. The low DF goes along with this because our goal isn't to fatigue. We use this for practice and to warmup, therefore I just want you to get hot and sweaty and ready to move while practicing stroke rate. So a high DF defeats the purpose in my eyes. So when running this make sure it's down at a 1.

John Swanson just a FYI I get my 6s plus with a life proof case on the cradle and it’s a snug fit, I think anything bigger than a 6s plus will be too big.

The cradle for the PM5 will push the buttons on the side of your phone. I just lay my phone on the center bar resting on the handle hook. Or, this product looks interesting. www.rowfree.com/

@DarkHorseRowing
@DarkHorseRowing 6 лет назад
Ha, don't judge yourself on this. Remember, the objective isn't distance, it's rowing as light as possible but maintaining the stroke rate
@djcg
@djcg 6 лет назад
yes, i understand that but if rowing light is the purpose how in the world did you get to 2500? it doesn't make sense i tells ya. holding the low stroke rate consistently (below 20) is challenging i found because keeping the damper at 1, any sort of increase in power shoots the rate up 1 or 2. which brings me back to you getting so far in the same amount of time. next time i'll do this with the video so i can catch at the same time as you do and see if there's a difference.

Can't wait to hear how it goes Josh.
@djcg

Ok so I did this warm up this morning again without the video and I put a secondary focus on really pushing this time, although the focus on stroke rate often pushed that away. Anyways, finished around 2050m. I think once I get used to the low rates I'll be able to exert more power per stroke.
