I have literally used this video as an example when trying to explain to people from California how high strung and hyper competitive New England parents are.
@@quisp1492 I would be heaving a nervous breakdown if I was on one of those boats, getting screamed at by all those parents. You can tell they're all already freaking out that they can't get out of the way, then on top of that all you can hear is "COME ON! MOVE! YOU RUINED IT!"
Tad Ghostal I love it when people make up fake rules 'Hey you remember Dave Chappelle?' "Yeah he was hilarious!" 'Well now that you said that, he's probably not. For some reason.'
LOUD NOISES! What the crowd doesn't know is that this is the Row Boat Smash Up Derby 2014. *SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY! BUY THE WHOLE SEAT, BUT YOU'LL ONLY NEED THE EDGE!*
Also just report them... unwanted commercial content or spam or choose I think their account has been hacked. Its simple to report, youtube may just get sick of everyone complaining.
In the first clip, the coxswain should have had 7, 5 and 3 seat square to get off the course of the dock. If that didn't work, add in stroke to square. Yes, that may be overkill, but it's better than careening into the dock and nearly killing your rowers (their heads were SO close to hitting the edge of the dock.) They should have also had starboard row with more pressure, which they might have been doing. As a coxswain, I respect other coxswain and know that the job is very hard, and especially with tall rowers in a sternloader, it's hard to see stuff. But when you see it coming that fast, you CANNOT fix it gradually, you have to be immediate. I think everyone was pretty inexperienced though. The coach should have been there telling them to stop, but they were probably drowned out by the hordes of screaming moms screaming the most useless things...
What complete *Losers* the folks on the sidelines are! How about you take it easy with all the yelling? Can't you see those poor women are having a crisis? Listen, as a member of *r/TwoXChromosomes*, I'm no stranger to manufactured crisis so I know very well that sometimes when faced with a minor amount of adversity, your faculties just shut down and you freeze. If my time at TwoX has taught me anything, it's that no amount of heckling from the sidelines is going to helpful, what these women need are gentle and encouraging pats on the back followed by a chorus of patronizing sympathies, "Oh Sweetie, I'm so sorry that happened to you!". Why do we have to berate them for such a simple mistake? Freezing while under pressure could happen to anyone. For Pete's sake, it even happened to Eminem in the critically acclaimed Film "8 Mile", and even he didn't appreciate the heckling, in fact, it bothered him so much that he ran away! Well you know what? These women didn't run away. They stayed put and they took the criticism, regardless of how soul crushing and self esteem shattering the experience was. In my books, that makes them more resilient and brave than Eminem. Ciao.
These parents are absolutely pathetic....they are yelling at the kids of other parents and clearly the kids are flustered and yelling at them does absolutely nothing....
You would be shocked how dangerous this shit is. Granted, the parents yelling doesn't help much, but those girls were violating a LOT of common sense. I guarantee this is novice though, so that's part of it I'm sure.
That was honestly so funny to watch but literally nobody there knew what they were doing, especially that coxswain in the middle of the race course lmfaooooo
I used to row in 8th grade, (shitty fucking sport) and the guy directing the boat at the top is called the coxswain and they tell people how hard to row and the amount of strokes and in which direction. Generally when a crash happens its their fault, so in this instance this one is fucking retarded. We had a new guy that the coaches instantly put in that position because he was too small and weak to row. This guy was so unbearably bad. You do races every month or so and on his first one after weeks of practice, he crashes into the pillar of an overpass and the boat SPLIT IN HALF. The amount of panic was hilarious, and so were the looks of the opponents passing by. 38,000$ fuckin' boat, gone. OKC Chesepeake Energy Boathouse.
I am a cox and from a cox's point of view I have to be honest. We don't feel people really understand the job we do, rowers and parents especially. Coding is very hard, it IS a sport, more of a mental one but also has physical aspects included. I think everyone was at fault here, the spectators needed to be quiet so the rowers could focus, the cox needed to think and act fast, if they weren't sure of what to do they should have asked stroke or one of the other rowers. The rowers needed to listen to the cox and follow instructions. If the cox is obviously in a situation where they can't do their job then they should have taken it apon themselves to get themselves out of a crash. Once you are out, get out the way! It is also a basic rule and common sense that if a crow is about to crash into you you need to shout at them, if that doesn't work then scream your life out until they stop, don't leave it for the parents to do. Coxing, as I said before, is very difficult and I remember the first time I coxed (I had had no training) I was terrified, now I am confident in the worst of crashes. If a cox is sent out without proper training and that is an incident the that is the coach's fault.
I row this stretch everyday. Its pretty twisty. But those parents need to stfu. I'd love to see them row a race. Sorry just sticking up for my fellow rowers
For those saying how annoying the spectators are, the only annoying people here are the coxswains. particularly the one in the boat with the red and white unis. They ruined so many other boats' races because they wouldn't fucking move off the course. total incompetence from that whole crew. The spectators (likely parents of other boats) are right to be pissed off. Incompetent coxswains and a lack of marshalling at this corner is what people should really be annoyed with.
Absolute sheer idiocy. Someone could have been seriously injured. Coaches, coxswains, rowers should never have been allowed entry into this competition. Shameful and embarrassing for the sport.
This is what happens when you take a group of kids who are victims of "helicopter parenting." As soon as they are met with a challenge and no parental guidance, they crumble. My recommendation is boot camp all around including the parents. P.S. The parents on the dock are protecting their flock as all helicopter parents do. This is evident by the second boat failing to navigate the first victims. What we have is a video of victims. Lets call it what it is.
Hey guys I have a brilliant idea that will revolutionize this sport. How about we get one member of the crew to face the direction the boat is going so they can navigate better. Easy peasy!
I love how the parents think they're helping by screaming MOVE MOVE MOVE MOVE GET OUT YOU RUINED IT MOVE MOVE GET OUT NO GOOOO GOO GOO GO GO MOOOVE COME ON LET'S GO MOVE COME ON ROW MOVE MOVE MOVE MOVE
Intellectual Genius Seriously, if that one boat had just stayed out of the way once they crashed, none of this would've happened. Except them running into the pier. Alone. Everyone else would've been fine.
in my first year (13/14 years old) i saw our j14 third octo (8 scullers, only used by noobs) race, put it this way they lost to a boat with a snaped oar
I was laughing pretty hard the entire time but the ending is Spielberg level where the boat that caused the whole problem to begin with is seen floating aimlessly in to the frame, STILL not rowing or making any effort to continue the race. Just looking around, almost catatonic.
I was a cox in one of the top 3 ranked rowing clubs in Great Britain, and the stupidity in this is just incredible. These rowers all seem very inexperienced.. and this is just unbelievable. How was this allowed to happen? Who was coaching (or not coaching) these people?!
It saddens me to see m'ladies partaking in such unbecoming activities. As a redditor and enlightened gentlesir I don't need to be involved in pointless sporting events to be in peak physical condition. I'm also an expert meme maker, so let me lighten the mood: Y U NO ROW RIGHT?!?!(it's a meme reference from reddit.com). -Gilded redditor, enlightened atheist, 148 IQ
I suppose this is what happens when you row without coxswains or the awareness of a spoon. Also, I'm fairly certain a good portion of the spectators are in fact, literal cancer in human form.
I've never rowed one of these, but used to be in a canoe brigade that had a ten man canoe and used to race with them against other teams. There were plenty of female paddlers. What I see in this video is bad coaching. Whoever thought it was a good idea to take untrained rowers and have them race, was a damn'd fool. Unless the teams know how to maintain complete control at all times, there should at least have been one trained adult in each boat to direct them. Stupid adults are at fault here.
I'm trying to figure out whether this is a comedy sketch or an actual rowing competition. Herta Fartjoy, Defender of Sanity, Founder of RU-vid Justice League,@YTJusticeLeague #RU-vidJusticeLeague
How can there be such a clusterfuck of everyone making mistakes in one single regatta? As if nobody here has ever rowed with or against another boat and no-one has felt the need to tell the coxes and rowers how to deal with that. Just... how?!
Those boats cost anywhere between 10k-50k. What a joke that these team's coaches thought they could do a race with the experience I witnessed. The boat team during my highschool, I don't think anyone was allowed in an official race until they had at least a year of practice out on the river. We did mock races against other schools during practice ever now and then, but nothing which involved a multitude of boats. It's scary enough during a race when you catch a wave during choppy water conditions and almost get pulled overboard. Deer in headlight syndrome with all these rowers.
