Reminds Me Of Will Smith Fresh Prince Of Bel-Aire. She's Bad And Highly Talented For Sure!!! Hip-Hop Rap Legend!!! She Gets All These Props...Yeah Baby!!! ✝️🙏🏽💜🙂✌🏾✊🏾👊🏾✝️
Roxanne Shanté is one of my all time favorites. But MC Lyte will always be my favorite female MC. Lauryn Hill also because I have yet to her any rapper freestyle like she did live when she was with the Fugees.
Roxanne had street style, as Run, LL and many more, become caricatures. Most great scenes are dead upon reaching popularity, punk, rap, rave. Glad to have been part of all 3. Best voice. Best attitude. Long live Shante
" NOW KRS ONE YOU SHOULD GO ON VACATION WITH THAT NAME SOUNDING LIKE A WACK RADIO STATION" the most stand out bar of the whole song. I remember when I first heard that. Blew my mind
Shante was the best rapper of her generation, bar none. I will fight people over this (or at least raise an eyebrow and change the conversation). Anyway, this is for you ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9aV3Onot0jY.html
Roxanne Shante lyrically killing brothers on this one... she told KRS1 that his name sounded like a whack radio station. Back in the day we would have said She cut his head off...Battles with words and rhyming skills...what happened???
"and MC Scott La Rock you should be ashamed/ cuz when T La Rock said 'It's Yours' he didn't mean his name". Sadly this song came out just after Scott was murdered
I remember recording this on my tape recorder on mike allen radio show fm. And playing it on my tape recorder on top of my dads car with my brother while my dad was in pub. Loved rap music then..
Everything that is good about HipHop Music is in this record. The Beat is brilliant. It really is. And the Rapping by Roxanne Shante is out of this world. This has to be in the best 50 HipHop tracks ever made. This is the track that truly made Roxanne Shante into Legendary status within HipHop music. What a record
Remember back in the days 85 'Dissin' another DJ was part of the deal to KEEP the ' Mc's'Crown', don't forget that LIve on stage many male MC's were 'Degrading' women in their lyrics & every MC had to 'Retaliate' in anyway shape or ORDER to maintain the 'STREET CRED'! Roxanne actually did it in an soft way in regards to KRS1 & BDP, Roxanne mashed up 'Brixton Academy'in London' & put all the men MC's including Big Daddy Kane under manners, she 'Redeemed' all women MC's & women in general's PRIDE that night by showing them that women have the 'GIFT' of lyrical 'NINJA style too. She's my inspiration still now when I need to have that 'GIRL POWER!
God, this takes me back 30+ years! The DJ, Mike Allen (who sadly died a few years ago) had a fantastic Rap and Hip Hop show on Capital Radio, in London on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights all those years ago!
This is my Jam! i remember taping Mr. Magic's radio show back in 86' just pressed record on the boom box and let it run, that's how i found this song. Respect to the real Queen of hip hop she's doing great things still.
Oh my god everytime I hear this I laugh myself like crazy she put them when she said. B. D. P. Stand for broken down punks you go girl ha ha ha she got them
I never forget how this was the first time I was introduced to beatmixing and how Belmaati blended them all in this non stopping flow: LL, P.E. Cash Money & Marvelous, Biz Markie, B D Kane etc. and how i was STUNNED from both how he scratched the numbers nicely together - and of course from the cutting on the records them selves. Seriously, that was like a spiritual experience, and I have been scratching and mixing ever since. (For real since '92 when I finally had both two 1200/1210 decks.)
Then she did that Christmas jam w/ Bizmarkie ("tis the season to be servie") & lost all credibility! "Go On Girl" on the "Colors" soundtrack was the closest she ever got again to this shit!! I'm with Kris, Scott (RIP) & the whole Boogie Down Bronx - but she owned them on this!!
+SaintBeysus lol she wish, Nicky was 6 when this came out......Minaj's best stick to her mainstream way & have a nice day......or: talking about she is so devoted, take her rhymes, u swore she wrote it, she wanna keep biting she wanna persist, well bubbelbutt Nicky u cant bite this :)
*****'Well Nicki wrote her lyrics'....It wasnt pretty obvious at all that Daddy Kane was Nicki Minaj....i liked him better before his gender transformation :P
