I would give everything I ever known just to spend a day in the 70s-80s, go out to a bar, and see this man. So many others as well. I could almost make myself cry at the thought of it, but I am equally grateful to live in a time where I can listen to the best recording of a song at my very whim. RIP Roy.

Sure guys. So friendly he was. the other show he lut brother me and father backstage after show take a picture with him his arms stretched out around us all. what a beautiful person. true musician. incredible guitarist. and soul blues player here is one thing. I listened 2 sets of all his albums he recorded. Interesting he is that kind of player but he is the only player that I sense the word His playing is down right Spiritual! I saw him at my Fathers Place a small club in Long Island a number of times. He blew the room away except for the 3rd time that I saw him there. He was so drunk that he only played a couple of songs, fell off the chair and passed out. There was a riot when refunds were denied. People were lighting furniture on fire and trashing the place. We got out fast. Crazy night.

This man was something altogether the fuck else. & kudos to his band too: the female back-up vocals, the drummer, base...the way they built that reggae back-beat w/ Roy's screamin' blues-rock guitar up front. Fucking ingenious. &-in case U didn't know-the late, great Roy Buchanan died a very sketchy, suspicious death in police custody....

Donald Elley .........I read there was a long-running feud between Roy and certain cops but it’s always hard to know what’s accurate and what’s “gossip”. That said, I’m in total agreement with you - I simply can’t believe that a “God-fearing” man such as Roy would ever contemplate such a thing and there aren’t a whole lot of alternate explanations.

I was picked up by cops once while I was drunk and bacame a crazed wild man and said thing to the cops I couldn't even believe the next day. It was because I was heavily under the influence and really felt I was being taken against my will for no reason at all so I felt justified in what I said at the time. I wouldnt have guess I would have done this, but I'm guessing Roy did the same and they tried to choke him out and suffocated him.

Roy Buchanan was indeed a remarkable guitarist. His passionate performances continue to influence many people to this day. The 1986 concert in Japan is an unforgettable memory for many fans, and the tragedy that followed shocked many. It’s truly wonderful that platforms like RU-vid can spread his performances and bring his music to a new generation of fans. The guitar play of Roy Buchanan, respected by great musicians like Jeff Beck, will continue to be loved and his legacy carried forward. Listening to performances filled with Buchanan’s soul, such as “Down by the River,” reminds us of the power of music. It is my hope that his music will continue to be discovered and resonate with many more people.

Saw Roy at then named "Salisbury State University" 1st time 40+ years ago. I was doing LSD-25 from M.I.T. The entire concert tears flowed down my face, thought it was the acid. About a year later he played there again so I went totally straight and the same thing happened, tears flowed and I can only say it was Roy's playing reaching my soul that did it. Not much facial expression while he played, and they were small. Wonder if it was recorded?

Roy is known for his love of the '53 Telecaster (so much so that when travelling by air, he often paid for an extra seat so it wouldn't have to be carried as baggage), but for part of his career, he played a Les Paul. In the insert with his recording 'Hot wires' he is shown with the LP he played. There's a bit more information in Roy's excellent biography by Phil Carson.

I´ll like to read his biography. Roy really was a blues man. Lived like one and died like one. Whta is extremely unfair to his talent. Well, is part of the history of music now. And he is imortallized because of his music. Thank you Alan.

picolodaemao3 I bought my copy via Amazon uk. Look for 'Roy Buchanan: American Axe [Paperback]' ... Backbeat Books (6 Sep 2001) ISBN-10: 0879306394 ISBN-13: 978-0879306397 Lots of insights into his early life and the many struggles he had with fame, drugs and an ever-increasing family. Later parts of the book do tend to slip into detailed accounts of particular gigs, but the bulk of the book really does help you try to understand Roy's Blues. Although his wife Judy appears again and again in the body of the book, there's a very interesting reference to her in Carson's introduction. I'll leave you to spot that. Hope you find the book and enjoy it. It's certainly sent me back to listen with new ears to my large collection of Roy's recordings.
