Roy Harris (1898-1979) - Symphony Nº 2 

Dear Roberto Pintos: Thanks so much for posting this gem! I discovered Roy Harris many years ago. St. Louis, Mo. was home to a classical radio station that was owned by the Lutheran church (Can you believe that)? Unfortunately, several years ago they sold the station. I was heartsick! And the thought of never hearing the radio personalities again was very upsetting. I loved these people! I used to record the music off the FM radio with a nice Technics cassette deck. I finally transferred all the tapes onto CD. So now I have a spindle-full of CDs. Whew! Long anecdote - Ha! God Bless you and yours. :-)

Thankyou for this opportunity to hear for the first time the second symphony by Roy Harris. A composer I much admire and feel is undervalued. I much appreciate what you have done.

Thank you Roberto. I lost my LP of this years ago and hearing the immense strength of the work has surprised me. When young I looked for clues to No.3 in many Harris works but can now appreciate No.2 in its own right. The concentration on development might put some people off but this is a very important symphony by any standards. The closest composer in Europe at around the time would be Honegger.

It sounds like he was about to use the chorale that drove the Third Symphony's recap but decided to wait on it.

It was many decades before this symphony came to light. I had read that Harris had withdrawn it but that is hard to believe. This a a fully developed work that is solid Harris. I actually think it is better than no. 1.

Saludos, Roberto, Feliz Navidad y muy prospero 2022 ! Una de las características que considero atractivas de la obra de Harris (que he escuchado) es su continuo desarrollo del viejo sistema tonal (en una manera muy particular) que heredó del siglo 19 sin renunciar completamente al mismo.
