I remember watching Paz go through a bunch of c level middle weights during the 90's. He also beat an old, past his prime Roberto Duran, who shouldn't have been fighting anymore, by this time. But after Duran he began shooting his mouth off about Roy Jones, and got his wish in facing him, and found out Roy was on a whole different level than what was given to him.
I know Vinny, we are from the same city in RI and your comment made me think It's one thing to talk shit in the comment section of you tube, but just know that if you ever said that shit around Vinny he would beat you to death with 1 hand. The man is a former world champion in the ring and even tougher outside of it. That's just facts.
Pazienza was a lightweight in his prime, bro.Give him his dues that he was unfortunate to have faced, possibly, the greatest fighter pound for pound in history at that moment in history! Rooney training Vinnie to fight this best fighter, and ironically, trained the last best like Jones, in a young 86- 1988 Mike Tyson.
No disrespect to all other great , but Roy Jones is the greatest that I've seen. Maybe even the fastest. a complete fighter. Offense, defense, and showmanship.
I came to that conclusion about 5yrs ago... Ali was special because of his size and skill set with that size but Roy was the most complete ever... Roy separates himself with his ridiculous power to go with everything else
@SuperSonics Return ... Floyd NEVER had half the power Roy had tho... Not even Pretty Boy was punching with either hand with that kind of power... If you say otherwise you just wanna argue...
@SuperSonics Return ... And as much as I love Floyd he never fought the very tough rematches for a reason... Whose to say Zab, Shane, Cotto, hell even Canelo wouldn't have figured him out in a 2nd fight... Floyd knew what he was doing but only having 2rematches in his career he rematched 2guys whose styles he knew could never beat him
Paziencia made Roy cried. Roy told Paziencia's corner to show some mercy and stop the fight. Paziencia never been a boxer. I guess he had good connections to get pay as a punching bag clown
That finishing sequence was brutal. Laser accuracy and the power behind each punch. The ref did him no favors in this one. Man lost an extra 3years off his life for no reason
Yeah that ref was questionable at best, should've been suspended at worst no way he is a decent official and doesn't stop it at the knockdown before the last ...yes Paz lost some brain function after that one
Pazienza had everything needed to make a great fighter -- he could move, he could slip, he had good footwork, good power, good hand speed, he was tough and in shape. but he never could put it all together into a coherent system. It was always a little of this, a little of that, now I'll try this, now I'll try that. Watching him is always nerve wracking. He always wastes so much energy jittering around -- and then the mere displays of temper and attitude -- taunting, show boating etc. totally incoherent fighter. Thats why they call it the sweet SCIENCE. He never understood the science part.
Met Vinny years ago when I was in Newport Rhode Island And he's very misjudged by many people because he's flamboyant but he was very gracious when I met him
How in the world is it 24 years later and no one knows the name of the song Roy came out to. Nor has it ever been uploaded or released or anything which is a joke. It's one of the greatest entrance songs ever I think it's the first time of fighter ever came out to his own rap. This legendary gem has got to be uncovered and released someone has to know the name of it.
It’s Roy’s freestyle he came up with purposely for this fight, I wish he would have actually finished this on an actual track, this shit would have been fire 🔥 his intro into this fight gives you goosebumps 👀
Roids? Vinny? Bro, I grew up in RI with Vinny, he was jacked in the 4th grade and I put that on my kids. It's easy to talk shit about a man who got beat by Roy Jones Jr for u huh? The man still reached the level to be in that ring and the truth is this, Vinny is a former world champion and even tougher in the street, pull his arrest record in RI, Vinny will drop someone quick anywhere. He doesn't care and NEVER did steroids, the man didn't even drink soda.
@@j.m.5744 I couldn't care less about Vinny Blowhards arrest record or what he drinks. The guy's the dirtiest fighter I ever saw and a complete jackass in and out of the ring.
44:23 Paz set the all time compubox record of NO PUNCHES landed in the 4th round. Never done before or since by any boxer. What a terrible record to hold.
In defense of his strategy, he threw haymakers in the second, connected on probably two-to-three wails in the third and then said, "Heck, I'm going for the record!" LMAO
Roy Jones, Jr. wasn’t just a physical marvel and beast in the gym, he was a pugilistic genius. In round 6, he threw that left hook where Pazienza was going. Dude ran right into it. That’s just brilliant!
After five rounds of playing with the squeaky little mouse, the Lion in the cat comes out and killz it outright. This and the Morrison/Mercer fight are the best two for their “When the dream/bullsht” ends moment. Both are completely normal until one fighter whips out their hidden superpowers.
Very different fights, though. Morrison was beating Mercer until he ran out of gas (always a problem for Tommy Morrison, especially against durable opponents)--Paz was never in this fight to begin with.
@@webcityguymyclubb4032 That's a topic people take wildly varying views on--the point was that these were very different kinds of fights. As to Jones I have a question for you and for those who know better than I--was Jones a fighter like Chuck Liddell, who at one time HAD a great chin that was "broken" via punishment in the ring, OR was Jones always a fighter with a poor chin, who was simply fast enough to avoid having this flaw exposed during his prime?
@@WithBACON I look at Jone’s chin same way as I look at his superhuman speed and reflexes: straight up gift from God. Ain’t nobody perfect but The Big Guy - so hence the Achilles heel…just to keep Jr. humble, lol. Was there all along but Jones stuck around long enough to grow old like the rest of us mortals. I judge fighters only at their peak…we don’t so much die as we do rot to death slowly.
@@webcityguymyclubb4032 You might enjoy this critical take on Jones's boxing skills, rather than physical gifts: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RSOg6-CyPr4.html
Smooth Luciano You must be smokin crack brother. Jones was fast, but faster than Pac Man and Floyd? Jones had incredible timing: which amplified the effect of his speed.
Vinny ate jabs all night and never could figure it out, it was a good stoppage. He could have had his best night and Jones would still have knocked him out.
Roy came into the ring listening to the rap song he recorded and damn if it didn't go down exactly like the song... I give Vinny credit and respect for not ducking!
Great comments, I totally agree, Roy was way to much here in his pure prime. Give Vinny credit here...I did not know that he was this good...before this fight standing toe to toe with an older Durran and getting the decision.
I always thought it was crazy that Jones kept his lead hand so low but his jab was so fast! No disrespect to Paz but to me he seemed more like a streetfighter than boxer.
My only regret is that the ref stopped the fight… He should’ve let paz continue… That way RJ could’ve administered more of a beating…All that herky jerk frenetic jumping around, dirty fighting and antics… MEANT ABSOLUTELY ZERO… I was so glad to see RJ dispatch this disrespectful ass clown… Not to mention shutting up that biased ass crowd…
Sean Bradley Vinny thought he was going to whip RJJ ass, but it come back to hunt Vinny at the end.. He thought he was going to get a win from a prime Roy and it was a huge mistake on Vinny's hands. A prime Roy was too dangerous to be in the ring with...
I had the privilege of growing up in Cranston, R.I. Vinny and I are the same age. I also got in the ring with him twice. He was very nice to me.. he could have killed me if he wanted to. That was back in 1981. I wanted to become a boxer... My grandfather suggested I find a trade if I want my Irish nose to remain in tact. Still love boxing and Vinny was a very very tough and skilled fighter who had the biggest heart. Roy Jones is on another level... Way above most boxers skill level. I would have liked to see a young Roberto Duran against Roy Jones... Sad to watch Vinny get beaten up ...
Vinny is a class act with a heart of gold, Great Guy! And an outstanding champion, fast, fearsome, super tough, skillful & indomitable. A prime Paz could have gone the distance with a prime Hagler, & win at least one out of three matches.
Vinny handled himself so well in the prefight interviews. Great man. Vinny was super aggressive. Roy was simply way too talented for anybody to deal with but make no mistake; Vinny was one tough SOB. Roy was superhuman.
I'm from Providence RI and Pazienza is nothing but a Hulk with no boxing skills whatsoever He Only won a Championship because of the Mafia's influence on the Judges Scoring There is nothing like beating yourself up in the ring...That real impresses everybody I'm sure his opponents were impressed also.
Paz got himself a big payday but he had no business in there with Roy. Paz wasnt fighting for a championship, just dancing around trying to last till the final round. Seriously, round 3 he threw 5, 5 punches? and landed 0? That aint fighting by any measure, certainly doesnt earn warrior status.
Yep, Vinny was a helluva fighter though dude broke his neck and still went up and challenged the best in the world. He went out on his shield, nothing but respect for that guy. Roy at this point wasn't losing to anyone idc what anyone says
@@joeman5021 do you know who I'm even talking about? If Roy tried to leap in with one of those telegraped left hook he would have gotten his world rocked, just cause you don't know or probably never even seen Hernandez in his prime doesn't mean that he wasn't a better fighter plus he was a South paw ..
Vinny said Jones was the best fighter he ever fought and even looks back saying, What was I thinking fighting that guy! However the hardest puncher he ever fought was Duran. Vinny said Duran caught me and it shook the life out of me!
The interviewer talking to Vinny before the fight was a idiot. Saying Vinny being a 12 to 1 underdog was ridiculous, then bringing up the " reverse discrimination" thing, trying to play the race card. He was pathetic..
The only name of any importance was over the hill Duran. He couldn't stop old man Duran and what made matters worse, Duran dropped Vinnie on his ass. This fight with Jones was like a little kid being slapped around by his daddy.
Did that guy really ask him if he thought his being a 12 to 1 underdog was because of reverse racial discrimination. 😂😂😂 Man, I forgot how wild they used to be, back in the day.
Paz is definitely one tuff dude never gave but enough is enough and time to admit defeat an what skill from Roy Jones Jr love to watch his boxing skills Amazing Boxer in his Day
Everything that you said in the interview b4 the fight Vinny,my response......YEAH,SURE YOU WILL! Mr."Wildman" Pazienza got that ass whooped! Someone forgot to tell you that Roy Jones isn't a washed up.past his prime,Roberto Duran!
He was never at Roy's level as a fighter , I recall people saying if Vinny was in his prime etc . I don't care when Vinny faced Roy , he was not in that league and would have been destroyed . Roy also got Cocky and Tarver brought him back down to earth !
Mismatch the day Roy Jr was born..Paz has the Heart but couldn’t crack a egg..He couldn’t knock out Lightweights..He gained weight but still hit like a lightweight..But stand him up at the gates of Hell But he won’t back down..Not enough power to back up Roy to keep him off and Roy has a glass jaw supposedly...But gotta be happy that Roy liked him enough to give him his biggest by far pay check
Spaz bobbing and weaving about 10 feet away from Jones. LOL! I give him credit though for getting in the ring with Jones since he was just a blown up lightweight.
Kevin Rooney said,"Roy Jones has never fought anyone like Vinny Pazienza"....HAHAHAHAHAHA! All that hard work Vinny does in the gym meant Nothing,B/C he still got destroyed! I guess you gotta work even harder Vinny! You can start by canceling all of that unnecessary movement that you do in the ring! Mr."Wildman" Vinny Pazienza!
Al Capone Don't get butt hurt. It's weird that people think the "he's better than YOU" defense is viable. Jones destroyed him. Fans talk shit, its what makes athletes rich.
