Do you think VINNY PATIENCE IS NOT??? In addition to having the courage to enter the ring with DURAN, Winny Pazienza did so after a terrible car accident, which kept him in traction for over 6 months. Doctors told him it was a miracle if he walked again and was done with boxing. He, being the madman that he was, didn't care and managed not only to come back but to beat Roberto Duran. Duran is tough, a great boxer, but for me Pazienza has won all my life.
@@joedino5774 That has nothing to do with being an entertaining fight or giving a guy a hell of a fight. And basically all Paz did was hold and move - he knew better than to fight with Duran.
@@marcoslaureano5562 it's called boxing not brawling and paz was out landing him and out moving him. Duran may have been a better fighter all time but styles made fights and Duran no matter how good he was could not beat paz. Paz clearly out boxed him twice.
Duran is dangerous at any age, and he was for sure very dangerous still here at 42. Duran has a unique instinct and ring intelligence that comes from a very extensive career, and that skill never goes away. Anybody who can go rounds and win against Duran should be very proud of themselves.
Duran's technique is amazing. The fundamentals, the small details and moves...Just amazing. The sad thing is you can see he knows how to do it,just his body can't do it no more.
Duran is an animal! A giant! He was Just a regular Guy , and Beat the crack out of those steroid anabolic guys of boxing. The Duran that Beat Iran Barkley, would swap the floor with that steroid anabolic Pazienza . If Pazienza was natural like Duran ( a non steroid anabolic fighter) , Duran would have easily beaten him on their both fights🥊🥊🥊
@Dbo83 I bet you if Duran at that age just took some time off to really get himself in super shape and worked on his mobility and flexibilty he would beat Paz, regardless of the age
At 42, Duran looked kind of slow but still a great competitive fighter with lots of experience. In fact It was his experience what kept him going against a Pazienza who was in his prime!!!
I just watched this fight. Vinny was pushing constantly and holding on the ropes and the stupid ref gave no warnings. In 12 rounds, Duran pressed all night and was the aggressor. Vinny ran so much in this fight, turning his back constantly. A younger Duran would’ve destroyed Vinny. Vinny was breathing heavy while Roberto looked fresh and conserving energy. Smart move. He hit Duran with good shots and couldn’t hurt him and in the process hurts his left hand punching Duran in the head. Vinny is a legend, great fighter, don’t get me wrong, but at this point of Duran’s career, he had fought 104 times. Lots of wear & tear. Too bad he wasn’t younger but despite that I’m proud of his performance.
that would the the early years of boxing some heavyweight went two years without a fight.now if you go to long without a fight they would strip you of your title.
Two warriors who WANT to go at it is almost always going to be a good fight. Duran is an absolute all time top 5 P4P LEGEND. And Pazienza is one of the toughest guys to ever lace them up - in OR OUT of the ring. A heck of a champion. But I'll tell you what - even at 42 the guys at welter of this era were lucky he wasn't still fit for welterweight, because they'd have had their hands full with Duran even as an old man.
Pazienza had heart like no other and always made for an exciting fight. That's what boxing is missing now a days. As a boxing fan, I would rather watch a boxer like Paz than Mayweather any day of the week.
And that is exactly what is wrong with boxing. People like you don't care for a contest of skills but only want to see blood and guts warriors bashing their heads in. You'd pay to watch htem do it for your entertainment, but you wouldn't pay for their medical bills to take care of their brain damage by the time they hit 40.
you king sized twat..leonard at 43 was completely gone from the scene, even at 35 he was crap (norris made him look like a novice), duran at 37 was dropping and beating world middle weight champions.
Paciencia hit Duran with a slamming shot and Duran took it like a champ! <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1447">24:07</a> and here <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1788">29:48</a> & <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1813">30:13</a> & <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1996">33:16</a> <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="2500">41:40</a> wow omg <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="2550">42:30</a> and <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="2672">44:32</a> Duran is a Super Legend
The commentator made a mistake that Duran beat Barkley to win the 168lb WBC belt which is false, it was actually a 160 lb WBC belt that Duran beat Barkley.
Absolutely no doubt about that. If Pazienza had fought The Roberto Duran of his prime please.? Look who Duran fought in his career, win or lose: Sugar Ray Leonard twice in 1980, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, Wilfred Benitez, Pipino Cuevas, and even a talented Davey Moore. In his prime, although certainly a game fighter, Pazienza never came close to fighting that championship talent. Sorry, but the likes of Greg Haugen doesn't compare.
Paz couldnt beat Duran like he wanted to. Says a lot bout his strength and his boxing skill. The 'old man' stood up to him all the way. Hats off to Duran.
Duran looked noticeably heavier, slower and weaker after 40 years old. At this point in Durans career I think his only remaining goal was getting to 100 Wins. He did end up with 103 Wins for his career. But lost maybe half of his remaining fights after this one. Was already a Legend long ago but he wanted to fight as long as he could because it was in his blood.
Yea but he was not ten years younger. Duran is probably the greatest pound for pound fighter ever. But he would not give in to old age. I never liked Duran, but he was a fantastic fighter. You cannot carry on forever. For me Marvin Hagler retired at the right time. Got his senses and no brain damage. He was sensible. Duran was a Macho fighter who could not take his dwindling fighting abilities. Shame he did not retire when he was at his peak.
I'm not in the boxing business, so I don't know for sure what fights were fixed and which were not. All I'm saying is that Ali was the only one to accompany his mouth with his fists.
There is a movie for duran and vinny both figther are amazing. duran came from nothing to becoming a world champ and vinny got an accident and the doctor said dont fight agian but vinny didnt listen and continue figjting.
These announcers are so biased for Pazienza....Duran at 43 is a marvel...Im at end of round 3...Hard to believe...all credit to Paz comin back from the broken neck, but in Durans prime Vinnie is a sparring partner...attempting to mock a 43 yr old fighter just makes you look cheap no matter what the context
The commentator, Dave Von Tempo (?) was a pain in the behind. My computer wouldn't let me mute him, so I like everyone else had to hear his biased bs. Pazienza deserved the decision but jeez, what an ugly, repellant, hot dog of a fighter.
MrLosguerreros when Paz eventually landed one half a punch. The commentators almost had an orgasmic experience with loud noises....they were very bias indeed.. All throughout the fight Paz kept running and would throw a punch while running back never taken the initiative and not putting his body behind his punches at all...they were more "taylored " for the judges or for looks but when he went down they said nothing.....in other countries you don't win matches running away.....
I don't like vinny but gota give him respect. holy shit this dude has some serious stamina. he was literally jumping all over the place. and makes for exiting fights. durans ability to take a punch is insane.
***** yea Vinnie had way too much energy he could have still been using the steroids after his car crash-he made a remarkable recovery the doctors told him that he would never box again
I like Paz , always have but Duran would have destroyed him in his 20's and early 30's! Paz, always entertaining and good skills but Roberto when he was young was so fast and hit so hard he would have knocked this Paz out and the one that beat Haugen and that fought Mayweather! Duran a Beast at any age!!!!!
In his older age Duran naturally is more calm and cool headed but in his prime they would have been going at it before the fight. Vinny is always hot headed with truckloads of energy. But in life he’s got a good heart.
Say what you will about Paz, but he was a tuff fucking guy.....Duran was one of the greatest , never liked him, always thought he was the biggest prick in boxing. Both fights were entertaining.
Vinny: kitty cat punches, dirty boxer, no power, wastes energy for no reason, just a show man. Duran: after more than 20 yrs pro, still so professional.
So sad that such a magnificent fighter like Duran had to continue fighting so far past his prime. By the mid to late 80s he should have had enough money to enjoy a fairly comfortable retirement.
It’s almost an insult for a fighter like Pazienza to have a shot at Duran. The comparative difference in the caliber, quality and attributes between these two fighters in terms of what each fighter was able to achieve is enormous.
not "almost." Absolutely an insult, even worse than Honeyghan v Pazienza. Both Duran and Honeyghan were washed-up legends looking for one more paycheck. Pazienza couldn't hold either man's jockstrap.
Duran was really in his prime from 1971-1975. He went up 2 weight classes and beat Sugar Ray media sensation Leonard. That was in 1980 by the way. It was also fun to see Duran beat the shit outta Iran Barkley and Davey Moore when it was the mid and late 1980s. Duran and Aaron Pryor were outstanding lightweights and Aaron would have waxed Leonard so Ray didnt fight him.
Gotta call BS on your post. First off, Duran's prime stretched into the late 70's with the culmination of his trilogy with Esteban DeJesus and jumping of the Jr. Welterweight division to beat the best 147 pounder in Sugar Ray Leonard at the begining of the new decade. Secondly, Aaron Pryor wouldn't have beaten a prime Leonard as his kinetic herky jerky style wouldn't have carried him over the 15 round distance with SRL. Lastly, your glee over Davey Moore's defeat and the beating he took is disturbing to say the least.
@@jamespoluan5707 - It doesn't matter what a fighter thinks. In most cases, they are the last ones to admit they are way past their prime (e.g. Evander Holyfield). This was Duran's 3rd decade fighting. Before 1980, Duran already racked up 75 fights under his belt. So yes, Duran was over the hill considering the mileage he had as a fighter. That's not what I think. It's just a fact that our bodies tend to break down the older we get. But in Duran's case, Duran was not only older, but he had been weathering a lot of ring wars as well.
@@jamespoluan5707 Bro how was duran not over the Hill if he was 44 yo, most fighters are retired by that point. Also just look at their phsysiques, duran old and fat and Vinny roided up
i won't bang on the old warrior or take anything away from vinny. this was just a warmup for him and a payday for the old warrior who probably needs one since he was so generous to the people of his country. duran deserves it for all the great fights he gave his supporters. best of life to those two fighters. vinny is a tough kid; he should do okay in his career. i hope life is bright for the both of you.
Great boxing exhibition by Vinney! Every time Duran came in Vinney had something for him. Vinney was in good condition and made it a very interesting fight!
