Roy Orbison did not sing in a Falsetto. He had a true 3 octave range and used sotto voce quite well, along with a soaring tenor. ": fal·set·to /fôlˈsedō/ noun a method of voice production used by male singers, especially tenors, to sing notes higher than their normal range" He did not sing above his normal range, every note was within his 3 octave vocal range.

Done by anyone else, this song would be shamelessly sappy (well, Don McLean got away with it); Orbison raises it to a poignant level. For me, there are three or four parts in the song that just make you stop and...feel it. Just over a year after this concert, Orbison was gone. He had experienced a gratifying, and much-deserved, comeback after being relegated to the far fringe of oldies. An American great.

On this day in 1987 {May 23rd}, Roy Orbison was the musical guest on the NBC-TV comedy program, 'Saturday Night Live', and he performed "Crying"... The following year on January 10th, 1988, in a duet with k.d. Lang, "Crying" peaked at #28 {for 2 non-consecutive weeks} on Billboard's Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart... And later in 1988, on December 6th, sadly, the 'Big O' passed away at the young age of 52 {heart disease}... May he R.I.P.

Roy had a voice that was silk, exquisite, heartbreaking I still love his music. He captures everything beautifully, he was an artist with a wonderful soul, he can make you cry. His songs are going to be with us forever, and for that I am grateful. RIP ROY, you were loved and still are. Thanks for all the beautiful memories.

I watched an interview with Bono once and he talked about how many in Rock music thought it gave them license to be a complete ass in public and with people. He sounded as if maybe he was one of those. He started talking about Roy and how he was on stage and with people, how humble and soft spoken and gentlemanly he behaved. He said he tried now to emulate Roy in his work and interactions. I never cared for Bono all that much but after that I have to admit that gave me respect for him. RIP Roy.

I loved Roy Orbison since I was a kid. Unforgettable talent, and a voice that no one has ever matched. He went through generations of people. My son , I used to hear “Pretty Women” blaring from his bedroom. No one ever came close. Watching the videos, his voice owned the audience.

I have read that Roy Orbison followed by Freddie Mercury were considered to have the best voices in R&R and pop music. In his genre, no doubt Roy was the best there ever was.

Freddie Mercury is overrated. He doesn't deserve to be close to the Greatest, Roy. 🙄
@dina113east
@dina113east 3 года назад
@@osamabinladen824 As I stated, Roy Orbison was the best there ever was, but Freddie Mercury was also an incredibly talented singer. He did not have the beautiful tone that Roy did, but he did have a three octave voice. Roy Orbison is said to have had a four octave voice. Different type of voice, but both extremely talented singers.

@@mosespereira9117 I am not comparing them. I am stating what I have read that voice coaches and music critics consider the two of them to have the best voices in their genre. They both had an incredible range, but the tone of Roy Orbison's voice is unique and as I previously stated, it was said he had a four octave range.

I'm going on holidays tomorrow and the holiday house that I am renting has a DVD player. I have the Black & White night DVD and it is the only DVD that I am taking with me. Yes, I am old (50🤪) and I didn't even have a VHS player when I was growing up. We had a black and white tv. My older sisters remember not even having a tv. 🎶🎵Times, they are a changing 🎵🎶
