I remember when they first did that song together on the Johnny Carson show in 1987. They barely knew each other ... but wow, what a rendition with two very powerful voices. I had goose hairs all over my body listening to it. My dad was a big fan and in 1982 I bought my mom and my dad tickets To a Roy Orbison small concert venue. My dad couldn't stop talking about it... it was the best gift I ever gave him and my mom... the tickets only cost $13.50 each. My Dad died the same year as Roy Orbison in 1988.
@@ar3728 I'm listening to Don right now and I'll agree that he did a wonderful job with the song!! I think I like Roy or k.d.'ions better, I hear more emotion in their voi8ces all the way through the song.
There have been many duets. There will always, only, be one of these. Music that transends, that transports us. This pair took me somewhere with this rendition and yes, I cried the whole way. Simply sublime.
I feel that way too. I'm pretty fond of Whitney Houston recording of I Will Always Love You. That was partly David Foster's producing decisions. This is the song and the two people only.
Never ever thought that this song could be performed by anyone else other than Roy Orbison. But KD Lang proved me wrong. What a fabulous version of a classic song.
I’m on my way to see my hospice client. His final day. His family told me yesterday they grew up w him signing Roy. I’m making a playlist. It will be a beautiful day
Roy was not your typical R&R or even country singer. Aside from his incredible voice with a range very few have, Roy was a great songwriter. Roy knew tragedy, pain, joys and all the range of heartaches and triumphs of this life. Being a shy person, everything Roy was came through in his songs and performances. KD's torch & twang powerful voice and connection with Roy's spirit made them a perfect duet.
My Mum died 28 years ago today, aged 52. This record was out at the time and remind me so much of her. Miss you so much Mum - I'm 53 now and I'll never forget you xxx
To date, KD Lang has garnered four Grammys, eight JUNO Awards and Canada's highest civilian award…and now has been inducted to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. She is exquisite these two, together, absolutely exquisite. When she sang Hallelujah, Cohen said it was now her song and turned down the Olympic committee’s request to have them both there…she deserved the spotlight. Look up that performance on YT if you’ve never seen it, and if you have, enjoy.
Fyi.. Legendary producer and guitarist Pete Anderson who was Dwight Yoakams producer for 20+ years was the producer of this cut. I agree it was the best cover of the song ever.. Pete's talent as a producer along with the phenomenal talent of Roy & KD made it extraordinary!!
My world stopped when this song, performed by two incomparable artists sing together. Everything stopped until they finish, leaving me speechless and dumbstruck.
I LOVE IT! Roy knew talent when He saw K.D. and how only so very few like her in the world could have sang a duet with him.GREAT GREAT GREAT vocals.May you rest in peace Mr Orbison how the world was blessed with your music!
This collaboration was simply out of this World. Two huge voices that complemented each other so well with vocals that went hand in glove. Total respect to the legends KD Lang and The Big "O" 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Duets like this don't come along every day. I'm glad that someone had the genius to match the power of k.d.lang with the timelessness of Roy Orbison on this classic song. The coupling of these two masters pales any imitators.
I know this version has been around for a long time but I hadn't listened to it in years. It came up on a Spotify playlist as I was lying in bed last night, and I listened with awe at the beauty of that duet. Unmatched.
All these years later, still just as beautiful, and now it means more to me than words can say. My Mom loved them singing Crying together. She passed away a year ago last June 😢
The cresendo effect at the end of this duette is simply amazing, literally breathtaking best appreciated with a good hifi system. Its a pity this duette is so short in duration, could listen to it being played over and over.....
Brings me to tears every time I hear it. R. O.’s passing Is such a tragic loss. K. D. Is a very dynamic singer and she gave 100% to a classic song and it showed up quite obviously. A true tear jerking performance.
If you have not seen "Black and White Nights" you have missed out on an incredible delight. kd lang was one of the background singers on this. Roy Orbison RIP honey. Your music will always live on in the hearts of many. ENCORE! ENCORE!! ENCORE!!! BRAVISSIMO....
This duet is one of the best examples of SYNERGY. I enjoy both singers as artists and each's solo version of this lovely song. But together they made something legendary! Perfection.
Rarely does a re recorded song sound as good but this one does and KD voice is perfect in this song. A great duet for sure. The first time I heard it I had goose bumps. Great one here!
After watching Hollywood Graveyards, I am appalled that this amazing artist had no grave marker. If his wife was upset about debt, why didn’t family or fellow musicians step forward like supporters have done. Did he not have a fan club?
KD Lang is one of the few performers who is in a league of the Great Voices of all time, her current band and live act is an example of what creative perfection is
Beautiful, haunting, heart-wrenching song. One of my all time favorites! Roy O. was an extremely talented writer and singer- he gave the world some great music. this is one of the best duets that I've ever heard- just magical!
Imagine the passion,, the enormous vocal strength ,that is required to perform this song as it was written??How many of the 87 could deliver ...I imagine:)
Roy and KD singing this wonderful song. I'm not sure any other duet could have done it better. Roy definitely sang from his heart & I'm betting touched a whole bunch of people with his words and singing from his soul. He sang what we all felt at one time or another in our lives.
I never, never get tired of listening to him, and KD just makes it all the more sweet. Aclassic 50 years ago and it will be one 50 years from now. No one has ever had a voice like that.
